A Snacky Drive

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Despite not sleeping much last night, I was up pretty early - my folks and I left scenic (hah) Breezewood PA at around nine in the morning, and headed home in virtually nonexistent traffic. Unfortunately, I was constantly hungry and snacky the whole time, so we had to keep stopping for odds and ends to munch on. Considering how cooped up in cars I've been over the past few days, it's understandable.

We crossed the border into Canada just after lunch, and hit traffic in Toronto just over an hour later. We were all pretty happy to be home, until we discovered that all of Mommy's plants (our veggies and the trees we bought for Basil's grave site) all dried up and died while we were gone. Mommy spent a good chunk of the afternoon watering the heck out of everything.

I was really excited to see Gammy and Grandpa and played with them as much as possible - we watched Doctor Who during dinner, I played some video games with Daddy, drew some pictures, and somehow at some point calmed down enough to fall asleep!

The Stinky HoJo

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had something of a rough day today - I was emotionally up and down, set off by little things, and kinda antsy. I was both happy to be heading home, but very sad to be leaving Nana's place. All of the attention I've been getting the last few days has also been playing on my nerves.

The plan was to head over to Aunt Trina's pretty early - but then Papa left her place to stop by at Nana's, so we waited around for him to arrive in the afternoon. We said our good-byes, bid a fond farewell to Nana and Jim (Nana's hopefully feeling a bit better) and drove over to Trina's, where we hung out and I had some ice cream.

Despite 100% of the memorial day traffic driving in the left lane only, we made it to Breezewood a little bit earlier than planned. The smell in our Howard Johnson hotel room was gross, so we had to switcheroo. We had Subs for dinner (as per my insistence) and then I pretty much refused to fall asleep.

Berry Picking with Trina

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It was another hot day today - unfortunately, Nana wasn't feeling very well at all, so we weren't able to take her out or go to the local museum with her or anything like that. I kinda started climbing the walls after my customary multiple breakfasts and lunch, despite lots of attention from my parents.

We drove out to Aunt Trina's house in the afternoon, where I got to play with her baby kittens and where we backed Papa's truck to the cherry trees and all stood on top of it, picking cherries. Daddy and I played and stuff after I got bored with cherry picking.

We all drove back to Nana's for dinner - Jim had to take Nana to the hospital, so I had a quiet evening with my folks. I had a great bath to get all of the kitten fur / cherry juice off of me while an awesome thunderstorm rolled in.

I had a couple of breakfasts this morning, which held me over until lunch - which we had over in Lynchburg, where we met up with Aunt Trina and Papa. We had yet another buffet - this time at the Golden Corral. By that time, I was very full of beans - literally and figuratively.

We drove downtown and all over the city, shopping for odds and ends all over the place - Papa paid for some craft stuff that I picked out at the craft store, we went to the bookstore and Target and stuff. By this point it was about 97 degrees Fahrenheit, so the air conditioning was very welcome.

I snoozed on the way back to Nana's - we all had a nice dinner out on the picnic table. Afterwards, I entertained the heck out of Nana and Jim and Daddy by devouring a watermelon (see above), most of which ended up on my shirt.

I sorted through doll clothes with Mommy and Nana before bed.

Berry Picking with Jim

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning while Daddy slept in, Nana and I went for a walk around the neighbourhood, which was nice up until the time a local dog decided to bark at me. I was so hungry afterwards that I pretty much ate continuously throughout the day.

After lunch I hung out with Daddy outside - once again we played a lot of games in the yard and he took me for several wheelbarrow rides. He was supposed to be getting some work done, but playing with me was more fun. We also went a few towns over to do some strawberry picking, which was great - I stuck with Jim the whole time.

Papa stopped by on his way to Aunt Trina's - he brought along a bunch of chickens and stuff. I was happy to see him. As soon as he was on his way, we all drove to Danville and had a big buffet dinner. Nana and Jim were shocked at the sheer amount of food I was able to pack away. Even the liquefied Jell-o.

Bubbling Away

[As transcribed by Daddy on May 27th]

I had a nice morning with Nana - and then Mommy woke up, so the two of us made breakfast in bed for Daddy. Once he was up, we had some lunch... after Nana and Jim got back from a quick trip to the doctor's, Nana and Mommy and Daddy and I drove out to Wal-Mart to do some grocery shopping.

Daddy bought some video games, I got some jelly beans and a big jug of soap for blowing bubbles, and we got miscellaneous food items. While we were there, there was a 45-second torrential downpour that sounded like the end of the world. And then it was sunny again.

Once we got back to Nana's, I blew bubbles outside - I pretended Nana's tummy ache was in the bubbles and I was blowing her pain away! Daddy thought I looked so sweet, he found it impossible to turen down any request to run and play hide and seek or tag or anything.

We had a massive dinner outside at the picnic table, followed by jelly beans, a bath, and bedtime.

Nye-Nyo Nyood-Nye

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Well, we were all up and out of the house at 10:00 AM on the nose. We all packed into our cute little rented gold Hyundai Accent and headed for the great state of Virginia. The traffic was clear, having left at the END of the long weekend.

We stopped for a picnic lunch in New York State, after which Mommy took a turn driving while Daddy napped off-and-on. Other than that one time, Daddy drove the whole way, and they discussed the Lost finale from the night before.

I was a really good girl the whole way, and barely complained about the long drive. I listened to my iPod (and sang loudly in funny accents... "Hello Goodbye" became "Nye-Nyo Nyood-Nye") and didn't make a mess (Mommy took over in that department).

We ate dinner on the road - I loved it when it got dark outside, even if Cinnamon Bunny was scared - and arrived at Nana's at 10:30 PM... I slept for the very last hour of the drive.

We're all very happy to see everyone, and my parents seem to like Charlie more than ever before.

Vacation Prep

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I had a quiet morning while we waited for Daddy to get up - we all tried to eat as much of the food in the fridge as we could for lunch, seeing as how we're going on vacation starting tomorrow. We watched some television and stuff.

Mommy and Daddy both did a lot of work to clean up the place and to get us ready for tomorrow's big drive to Virginia... seeing as how I'll be cooped up in the car for most of the day tomorrow, Grandpa decided to take me to the playground, where I saw my friend Veronica. Wasn't that super nice of Grandpa?

Mommy and Daddy and I ran some quick errands - we watered our garden over by the park, where I made friends with a nice lady. We got some groceries, came home, I played badminton with Daddy outside, and then Lisa and Matt and Leo came over after dinner to watch the last episode of 'Lost.' Leo and I had to go to bed, though, so I left the television watching to the grown ups.

New Hat & Flip Flops

[As transcribed by Daddy]

While Daddy slept in this morning, Mommy and I had breakfast, I visited with Gammy and Grandpa, and played video games and stuff. Eventually Daddy woke up and made me some reheated pizza for lunch, and we watched television together.

In the afternoon, Daddy drove Mommy and I to the mall - I got some bubble tea, a new hat, and a new pair of Kermit the Frog Flip-Flops. Once we came home the weather started improving, so we played around outside a bit before coming back inside to clean up the house.

We all watched Doctor Who during dinner, during which I started to get pretty antsy, which stayed the case right up until it was time for bed!

Boo Boo Times Two

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Smoothies for breakfast! So awesome. Also, Mommy and I made a batch of cookies for me to take to school for show and tell. That was the plan, anyway... and I DID end up handing them out at show and tell, but a few minutes before actually heading to school, I was a bit perplexed. Show and Tell is supposed to be about showing off toys, right? Well, it seems that way to me. So I brought the awesome paper TARDIS Daddy made for me and showed it off. That makes Daddy very proud.

After school, I was playing with Claire and fell down and scraped my knee on the pavement, which made me freak out. THEN, on the way home from school I fell on the pavement AGAIN and bumped my knee, which made me freak out even more!

To calm me down, Mommy and Daddy canceled the regular evening's activities and we had a movie night instead. We ordered a bunch of pizzas, watched a cool movie, and I was much much happier.

Kindergarten Slide Bowling

[As transcribed by Daddy]

My folks both overslept this morning, due to an alarm clock that didn't go off as scheduled (I MAY have had something to do with that). Once they were up, Mommy and I made breakfast and then had an average morning. It was pretty warm outside!

School was good - I got in a lot of good playing with my friends. We made up this game where one of us would stand on the slide at the bottom, and then another kid would slide down at us like a bowling ball, sending everyone flying. It made the parents nervous, but nobody got hurt.

After Daddy came home from work, we all had a delicious dinner, and then did the weekly grocery shopping. For once I wasn't all crazy and full of beans at the grocery store - I sat quietly in the shopping cart and almost fell asleep! Maybe it was all that kindergarten slide bowling.

Po' Widdow Bo-Bo

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I went to see the chiropractor this morning - I talked to him the entire time he was working on Mommy's neck. On the way home, I listened to my iPod on the bus, which everyone thought was pretty cute (I didn't sing along too loud).

We bought an activity magazine, which I worked on while I had lunch... then Mommy took me to school, which was good. We had gym today (instead of tomorrow), hit up Home Depot on the way home to buy some sandpaper and a fancy juice drink at Second Cup (because I got a boo-boo on the slide at school, which I've named "Po' Widdow Bo-Bo").

Before dinner, we went to pick up some groceries from Claire's Mommy - I played with Claire in her back yard.

Head Check

[As transcribed by Daddy]

The local farmer's market re-opened today, so Mommy and I were sure to get there ASAP. I was quite disappointed that the various food samples weren't available, although there was a violin player there, which I loved listening (and dancing) to. I got a muffin, so everyone was happy.

At school a person examined our heads and hair and stuff. I thought it was kinda fun. Mommy asked me if they found any lice, and I have to admit I had no idea what she was talking about. I thought they were just checking out our heads.

After school I came home and played Doctor Who with my paper TARDIS and stuff. Mommy had some errands to run, so I went to Gammy and Grandpa's place and played restaurant. So far, all of my made up Doctor Who stories end when the Doctor makes a snack for the monsters.

Uno

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I had a nice morning - I did some homework, and then we had a quick lunch. No big deal. School was good... I played a lot. Afterwards, Mommy wasn't really into letting me play in the playground because she had something of a headache.

Once we got home, she made me a big plate of nachos, and surprised me with a new game of Uno, which she picked up while I was at school. We played, and I won. I like games where I win.

I tidied my room while listening to my iPod - I was singing along so loud that Mommy could hear me "yelling" over the baby monitor and made her headache worse. I guess she has little appreciation for the finer things.

Daddy came home from work and I was immediately all over him to finish making my TARDIS toy. We played Doctor Who with my Playmobil toys after he was gone. Yay!

Wakkawoort?!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy and I walked over to the community garden, where I was given the job of picking dandelions while Mommy did some soil tilling etc. I told the adults about how Daddy buys hats at Wal-Mart (for the record, he's never actually bought a hat at Wal-Mart) and made friends with some kids there, and everything was going great until I told this one kid "Let's Get Back to Work!" He thought I called him a "Wakkawoort" (a curse in his foreign tongue?) and told me I was mean... which led to me having a totally inappropriate meltdown. I eventually apologized to everyone who witnessed it.

Daddy came and got us, and then took Mommy and I to a park where we had an absolutely lovely picnic, and where I got to play at a playground. It was delicious. We then drove aaaalll the way out to Terra Cotta and had a great little hike along a small sliver of the Bruce Trail. I was a little bit slow, and we were covered in gypsy moth grubs... but it was still good.

After we got home, I convinced Daddy to make me a TARDIS for my Playmobil toys out of two boxes of Macaroni and Cheese. At first he felt put out, but I was really excited to be doing crafts with him... by the end of it, he was pretty proud of his handiwork!

Taking Advantage of my Unconsciousness

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Both of my folks slept in today, but that was okay - I kept myself busy and waited for one of them to wake up and make me some cereal. Daddy and I played some fun video games together, I did some awesome drawings, and Daddy made me some lunch!

We went over to Gammy and Grandpa's and waited for them to come home from a walk, and then headed for the woods to have a hike - however, I fell asleep in the car, so my parents took advantage of my unconsciousness by just driving around aimlessly for a while and then hitting up the butcher and the bookstore on the way home. I got some books. It was cool.

Once we got home, Mommy made us a delicious dinner, and we watched Dr. Who before it was time for me to go to bed. Let's hope that tomorrow my attitude is a little less snippy.

Stuffed Italian Cowboy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I got my fix of using the computer this morning, and then had a nice bath, after which Mommy trimmed my hair a bit. The two of us spent some time in the wonderful weather before coming back in for lunch and my allotted television quota.

School was great - I brought my snuggle zombie to show for show n' tell, including the original drawing it was based on. Once again, I was disappointed by some of the other things my classmates brought. More Barbies. Sheesh. After school I hung out with the other Moms instead of the other kids.

Mommy made a fantastic antipasti platter for dinner, which we had a little later than usual since Daddy was a little bit late coming home from work. I ate enough prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella to keep an Italian cowboy stuffed.

Brontë and Baum

[As transcribed by Daddy]

There was a difficult issue this morning when I started playing with my silly putty and somehow smeared it all over the lovely new nightgown Mommy made for me, and now it won't come out. Mommy took my putty away - hopefully she gives it back and hopefully my dress can be fixed.

School was fine - I shared my snack with Ms. Macintosh, and had a delicious cup of tea when I got home. I watched The Wizard of Oz on DVD and followed along with the book version, and tried to notice all of the discrepancies between the adaptation. After Daddy came home I pretended to be Mommy by lying in her bed and then I tried to read her copy of Jane Eyre. Dad thought it was hilarious!

We did some grocery shopping after dinner, during which I saw and started grabbing at and handling bunch of adorable-looking vegetables... which turned out to be Jamaican scotch bonnet peppers. Mommy freaked out and got me to wash my hands... let's hope I don't make that mistake again.

Bunny and the Red-Nosed Wolf

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy kinda slept in today, leaving me somewhat in the lurch for breakfast. I got pretty annoyed with her - so annoyed that I wrote her an angry letter. I marched into her room, slammed it down on the bed, and told her about it. It read "I am angry because of Mommy" (er, not with such perfect spelling). She got up, made me breakfast, and I was much happier. So happy, in fact that we had, like, the single best-ever game of indoor I Spy known to man. It was amazing!

School was good - Grandpa gave us a ride there, and once again, my nemesis was nice to me. That's two days in a row now. Weird!

After dinner and before bed, I decided to put on a puppet show for my parents. Daddy filmed it - hopefully it appears on the blog soon. It was an adaptation of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' called "Bunny and the Red-Nosed Wolf."

Mommy sews. Whoppee.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had a nice morning with Mommy - she finally made the scones that Daddy DIDN'T make for Mother's day.

School was cool - my nemesis was suspiciously nice and friendly with me. Maybe somebody got to her. Mommy brought some hand-sewing with her when she came to pick me up, and worked away while I played on the playground. This fascinated a lot of my friends, who crowded around to watch her. I honestly couldn't care... it's not like I haven't seen her sew before.

Mommy made some tacos for dinner, after which Daddy and I played together and jokes around and stuff. He drew a face on his hand and made it talk - I thought that was hilarious.

Sassy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I let Mommy sleep in this morning and dressed myself in an outfit I described as "Sassy." The two of us had a nice quiet morning - we played games and pretended to be running a food stand. Good times.

I wore my clip-on earrings to school, which was cute. I shared my snack (cinnamon apples) with Mrs. Macintosh, who shared her veggies with me. Mommy and Gammy and Grandpa came to pick me up afterwards, which was a nice treat!

I wrote more letters to relatives today, played food stand with Mommy, was sassy in my sassy outfit, and after dinner, Daddy drove Mommy out for a quick run to the fabric store. I tagged along for the ride.

Mommy liked the little video card (see above) I made for her, but got some bad news from Nana about another death in the family, so it put a serious damper on the day (and my whiny attitude wasn't helping much).

Did I mentioned that it snowed here in the city, too? Our plans for a hike were scuppered, so we went for a long drive just to get out of the house, stopping at the odd farmer's market. I have to say, I was pretty well behaved!

We decided to stop and get some dinner at one of my favourite sushi restaurants - which I guess was a crazy thing to do on Mother's Day. We literally spent about as much time waiting for a table as we did eating at it.

Jumping to Gagoosions

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I did a lot of scurrying around this morning until I finally persuaded to get my parents out of bed. Mommy and I had a nice Saturday morning - unfortunately the weather outside was pretty rainy and insanely windy, so we were all cooped up inside. We had fun role-playing... I was pretending to be Mommy and Mommy pretended to be me. I told her to stop "Jumping to Gagoosions".

In the afternoon, Daddy drove Mommy and I out for some errands. We hit up the bookstore to get some mother's day presents and some tea, and then we drove out to the garden centre, where I became obsessed with seeing a Venus flytrap (no dice).

Once we got home, I joined Gammy and Grandpa for our scheduled dinner (which was lovely) and then watched TV with my folks before going to bed with an extreme level of difficulty.

Locked in the Bathroom

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning Mommy asked me to brush my teeth and get dressed... this happens every day, but for some reason I took it kinda hard and decided to lock myself into the bathroom and sulk as a result. No idea what was up with that.

School was pretty good today... cut & paste, playing and stuff, and I brought my binoculars to show & tell. Most of the other kids brought stuff that I thought was pretty boring (If I have to sit through another Barbie presentation I'll lock myself in the bathroom), although Cody brought a box full of snails that he found. I thought that was pretty awesome.

I made some more grocery lists and I played on the computer when we got home. We watched a movie during dinner - actually Mommy watched the movie, Daddy fell asleep through it, and I fidgeted. I think it was kinda boring, to be honest with you.

Open House

[As transcribed by Daddy]

First thing today, Mommy was informed that her Aunt Marion had passed away in her sleep last night. We'll all miss her very much, but are glad that she's not suffering anymore, and hope that she's taking care of Basil (and vice versa).

I had a difficult early morning with Mommy, but things improved after we both got out of bed! School was also pretty good, but I didn't stick around to play in the playground for very long. Mommy made a delicious dinner, after which Mommy and Daddy and I went to my school's open house - it was pretty fun. I took it as an opportunity to go into all of the other classrooms I've never been in before.

When we got home, I played on Daddy's new iPad, and then it was time for bed - and I wanted Daddy (who is transcribing this) to make mention that I have dinner plans with Gammy and Grandpa this weekend, I think.

An Evening with Daddy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I had a nice morning together - I had a bath, we did some work outside, you know the deal. I was really excited about being the helper in school today, so I wore my prettiest dress to class. All of the moms at the playground thought I was totally adorable.

Like I said, I was the helper at school, so that was awesome. Amarion and his Mom walked part of the way home with us afterwards, and I spent my afternoon writing letters to family members (if you're reading this, there's probably one heading your way).

Mommy had a community garden association meeting today, so I got to spend the late evening with Daddy. We stayed up late, ate ice cream, watched some television, played with Cinnamon Bunny, and drew lots of pictures together. Pretty awesome!

Squished Muffins

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I had a great morning, capped with a trip over to our little patch of the community vegetable garden. I was kinda bored while Mommy worked there, but once it was time to plan and water some seeds, I took part. Mommy packed a picnic, so we sat down in the park to eat - and I sat down on my backpack, which contained the banana muffins I was gonna take to school for snack. They were pulverized. I ate 'em anyway.

On the way to school, Mommy and I ran into Amarion and his Mom, so we all walked to school together, and actually got there pretty early for a change.

After Daddy came home from work I was feeling kinda snuggly and huggy with my folks, so I made a special request that we all cuddle on the couch while we ate homemade chocolate ice cream and watched our favourite cooking shows.

Blurring the Line between Fantasy & Reality

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I had a lovely morning, spent entirely outside. The weather was fantastic - we did some planting, some yard watering, and I pretended to drive her to the beach and the movie theatre using a frisbee as a steering wheel.

School was fine today, but getting a straight answer out of me on the day's events is getting hard... I keep making up stuff that's more interesting than what happened. Today, for example, Mommy asked what I did at school, and I told her that we learned about dinosaur bones. "Really?" she asked. "No, not really." I replied. If you don't double check to see if I'm making it up... nobody will ever be the wiser.

Mommy and I worked on Nana's mother's day present in the afternoon, did some more planting over at Basil's grave, and Daddy went with Mommy and I for a walk to the corner store after dinner.

New Binoculars

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Yesterday it was supposed to be warm and sunny, but it rained. Today it was supposed to be gray and rainy, but it was sunny. When the weathermen get it backwards, it makes planning the weekend kinda tough!

I had a pretty decent morning - I got my fill of video games and television. After lunch, we all got our act together and decided to run some errands - we headed down to the beaches, visited a toy store (I finally got that pair of binoculars I've been asking for), got some snacks, and went to the butcher for some food. I got a little bit worn out.

We headed home, where I remained fairly full of beans and energy for the rest of the evening, and had a hard time focusing on stuff, like helping Daddy to make Mommy's Mother's Day present.

Southern Terminus

[As transcribed by Daddy]

We were all up and out of the house at a decent hour this morning - tie to head for the southern terminus of the Bruce Trail at Niagara Falls, something we've been trying to do for a month and a half, only to be continually postponed (by things like the dog's illness, etc).

By the time we made it to the Niagara region (after a lengthy, traffic-heavy drive) it looked like we were gonna get postponed yet again due to heavy rain. We're happy that it rained - the lawn needs it - but it seemed as though we weren't meant to hike in the Niagara region. We abandoned our picnic plans and had a nice lunch at a decent restaurant in Niagara-On-The-Lake, during which the sun kinda came out and the rain stopped.

We drove over to Brock's Monument and looked everywhere for the start of the trail... eventually we found it and hiked for about an hour (I was kinda mopey because I wanted to play at the playground in the adjacent park). We saw two snakes and lots of Trilliums. I got to play at the playground on the way back to the car.

We drove past the falls themselves, but parking there was close to fifteen dollars, so we just decided to head back and have a late dinner. We were all pretty exhausted by the time we got home.

Minty

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I'm happy to report that I was a much better and well-adjusted kid today... in fact, I was very sweet to everyone - maybe to make up for how rude I was being to people over the past week. In fact, when Mommy picked me up from school today, Mrs. Bartlett commented that I had been a 'different kid' on Monday and Tuesday. My nemesis was kinda mean to me at the playground again.

Some seeds that we sent away for in the mail arrived today - I was so excited I just wanted to plant them all myself! Mommy and I carefully took care of each of them. In related news, at lunch today Mommy made me some mint tea - using mint from our own garden! I thought it was so cool that I kept getting up from the table to go to the garden, pick more mint, and put more of it in my tea.

After Daddy came home from work, he and I had some fun drawing pictures and stuff. Then he passed out on the couch, which annoyed me.

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
