Splash Pads along the Beach

Rings by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy on August 12th]

So as a nice treat today, Mommy decided to take me down to the boardwalk for a lovely walk and a picnic on the beach! What a super idea... I was so happy, and we had so much fun. Lunch was great!

We found a splash pad to play at, which was great... and then we went for a walk, and found a playground to play at, which was great. Believe it not, before we went home, we even went back to the splash pad!

The two of us took a walk around Queen East, and I FINALLY found a copy of that new Ivy & Bean softcover I've been waiting for.

Falling out of my Chair

Date with Gareth by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy on August 12th]

I went to the farmer's market with Grandpa this morning... we tried to remember the sort of foods that Gammy likes to eat, because we didn't have a list written down from her and had to bring back what she wanted. We did our best... I don't think we forgot too much.

Mommy and I did some grocery shopping in the afternoon, and I was very well behaved and helped out quite a bit. Finally, as a reward for my awesome behaviour, we made some brownies, which we slathered with frosting and sprinkles and stuff.

At the end of the day, I was watching Avatar and I got so excited that I fell out of my chair. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but it really ruined an otherwise nice day!

Hitting the Bricks

Bunny Drawing by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy]

First thing that happened this morning was the arrival of several large deliveries of bricks, courtesy Gammy and Grandpa. We all unloaded the bricks and started a new retaining wall around the house to house a new garden.

While I rode my bike all over the street, everyone literally and proverbially hit the bricks and started building that wall! Bless Daddy's heart... he went back-and-forth from watching the Olympics to trying to chisel one single brick in half.

I was so proud of him when after what felt like an eternity, he was successful - unlike Canada's women's soccer team!

We all celebrated by not making dinner, and enjoying a huge takeout meal for all of us.

Rainy Beach

Rainy Beach by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy on August 9th]

Today was kinda cool - yesterday I said I wanted to go on another epic walk with Daddy, and even though the rain was pouring down, Daddy kept his promise and took me for a walk along the boardwalk!

We had a great time - throwing rocks in the water, running in the mud, getting soaked, and checking out the beach. Once we had enough, we walked back to the car along Queen Street. I got a hot chocolate, even tough it's the middle of summer!

...which we remembered once the sun came out and the rain went away. It got so hot, so fast!

Stood Up at the Splash Pad

From Above by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy on August 9th]

Mommy and I waited in frustration for Daddy to get out of bed... we gave up and decided to go to a movie, but then my friend Amelia called and asked me to go to the Splash pad. So... we decided to do that instead.

We walked over to the splash pad, and I had a lot of fun - it was hot out, so being in the water was great. I made friends with a bunch of the kids.

Unfortunately, my friend Amelia was a bit of a no-show, but I'm not too bent out of shape about it. I know how it is... sometimes a kid calls you up, wants to hang out, and forgot to check with their parents if there were pre-existing plans. I've been there, sister.

Daddy took Mommy and I to the mall afterward.

Tie Dye

With Gammy's friends by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy on August 8th]

So this morning Mommy and I were on our way to day camp, when suddenly we remembered that it was tie-dye day. I was supposed to bring a white shirt to camp! And I didn't have one! In a pinch, Mommy and I grabbed the first one we could find around the house, which was Daddy's favourite white T-Shirt from Old Navy. I guess it's easier to beg forgiveness than ask for permission.

I had a good time dying the shirt, but the funniest part was this one other kid who totally forgot to bring a shirt. Instead, he took off his socks and tie dyed those. I think that shows some serious ingenuity.

The Swimming Jawa

Dennis on the Dunes by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy on August 8th]

So here's an interesting thing that happened at camp today... it was Hallowe'en day! Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Hallowe'en. My family and I thought about putting together a new costume, but in the end we decided to drag out last year's Jawa costume, since it;s so awesome.

I barged into camp wearing my costume yelling "I'm A JAWA FROM STAR WARS!" to anyone who would listen. Mommy suggested I give it a bit of a rest. Whatever, I was enthusiastic and knew my outfit was amazing.

We got to do some trick or treating and Hallowe'en themed stuff, and then we went swimming. Obviously, I did not go swimming wearing my battery-powered electrical light-up Jawa eyes.

Freezies by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy on August 7th]

Today was a pretty fun day at camp... we all loaded into a bus and drove out to a cool glow-in-the-dark minigolf establishment! We had a great, rowdy, noisy time. You kinda had to be there... a bunch of kids, running around in the dark swinging small clubs around.

We had our lunch, and then took the bus aaallll the way back to camp. It was such a nice day that our counsellors took us for a lengthy hike in Taylor Creek Park. I'm there frequently, so it's no big deal. But I still had a great time.

After we got home - more Olympics! I told Daddy that I've picked my favourite sport - either swimming or cycling. Anyone who has seen me ride my bike knows why this is funny.

Badlands Pose by Clover_1
[As transcribed by Daddy on August 7th]

Here's a quick update on everything happening to our house, for those interested.

So, since the big flood happened during my birthday party, we had several contractors come through and measure the amount of moisture in the walls of the kitchen, bathroom, and my bedroom. Mommy pulled up my bedroom floor in the meantime.

The eaves troughs are being completely rebuilt around the roof of the house, and enormous trenches are being done around the perimeter of the house - from the front door around to the right side. That trench is about a story deep - and they're going to replace the clay with new, thick soil and rocks, not to mention weatherproofing.

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
