Ice Cream in Winter

[As transcribed by Daddy]

We all slept in today! Must be due to the fact that it's so cold out there - staying cozy just makes so much sense. Mommy and I made muffins this morning, visited with my Grandparents, and played video games.

After we were all up and had our lunches devoured, we had some errands to run... so Daddy waited in line at the post office for a year, and then we went to the butcher and got some meat and stuff. At that point, the day was still young, so we tried to think of something to do. We figured - it's the dead of winter, coldest day of the year... let's go for ice cream and go to the beach! So we did! Lots of fun.

After the ice cream and the beach, we hit up a mall we hadn't been to, visited a toy store and just kinda bummed around, came home, and had a delicious dinner.

...in the electorate (?!)

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I played with my dollhouse this morning, which was quite a lot of fun. When she suggested that she was going to put off having lunch, I suggested that she might eat it "tomorrow", "next year", or "in the electorate." If anyone has any idea what that means, please leave a comment.

Mommy took me to school (during which I told her that I love her "ninety percent of a googol"), which was fun. And warm. Once again it's insanely cold out there, which is why the fact that Claire and I took our hats off while playing in the playground more troubling.

I got a ring-pop candy to eat on the way home, which turned my tongue green. Mommy and Daddy went for a 'Buckley's run' in there evening to fix Daddy's cough, so I hung out with Gammy and Grandpa.

Indoor Hide & Seek

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It's crazy cold out there again. Mommy and I decided to play hide and seek, but we played it in the house in order to not get frozen. I visited with Aunt Wendy and Uncle Roger before they left today, and, you know... just basically tried to keep warm.

When it came time to go to school, we tried to walk (as usual) but the wind was practically throwing me around like a rag doll. I could barely put one foot in front of the other - so we tracked down Grandpa and asked him to drive us. School was good - it wasn't windy or freezing in there.

Mommy and I played some more indoor hide & seek and I watched a DVD in the afternoon, and when Daddy came home from work, he and I drew some pretty awesome pictures and stuff. Hopefully it's not as brutal outside tomorrow.

One-Day Nixon Visit

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I got off to something of a bad start this morning over the computer - I was watching too many kids' shows on it without asking permission, so Mommy wasn't happy. We were a little 'out of sorts' with each other for the rest of the day.

School was good - Mommy and Basil came by to pick me up afterwards, but all of the other kids came over to play with Basil and it didn't exactly sit well with him and he got kinda nervous, so we left.

I was pretty excited to get home, because Uncle Roger and Aunt Wendy were at Gammy and Grandpa's, so I got to see them! I'm sad that they're only staying for a day, though.

Also, my intestinal issues seem to be resolved, which I was happy to announce to the world in a somewhat 'more colourful' manner. I woulda told Daddy, but he was out late visiting an old friend who's in from out of town.

'X' marks the spot, but 'Y' and 'W' are just decoys.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I drew a pretty amazing picture of a pirate this morning. I made sure to include an 'X' to mark the spot where his treasure was buried... I also included a 'W' and a 'Y' as decoys.

School was great today - only I forgot to bring my library book back with me, so I couldn't get a new book. Mommy was a little nervous about sending me to school either way, due to some intestinal issues I've been having, but everything was fine.

Mommy and I watched television and ate guacamole once I got home. I drank a cream soda in the afternoon - which honestly seemed to give me enough 'zip' to stay up for a week.

Gammy / Clover Team-Up

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning I planned a fun "Gammy/Clover Team-Up" day for later on, and did some reading with Mommy. I kinda got hung up on the word "here" which made me pretty frustrated and worked-up. So we stopped reading for the rest of the morning.

School was great - I had a really fun time, but couldn't wait to get a snack when I got home. Mommy and I were hanging out when suddenly I remembered the "Gammy/Clover Team-Up" so I spontaneously teleported over to Gammy's, where we pretended to be animal families and stuff.

Mommy made sushi for dinner (I was the only one who liked it), and then after discussing Haiti with my parents, I decided it would be nice to mail all of my money (all two dollars and eighty-two cents of it) to the children there (because they need it more than I do). My parents were pretty impressed.

Couch Testing

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy's cough kept him up pretty late last night, so Mommy and I let him sleep in. The two of us made some scones, did some reading, and watched a DVD together. It was a really nice way to spent Sunday morning!

In the afternoon we had some lunch and then headed out on a couch-finding excursion. Our couch just isn't cutting it anymore, so we went to check out some new ones - I was brought along for the sole purpose of sitting on and "testing" each couch. I was nice and pacified and charming at the first place we went (where I befriended the saleslady - and named her shadow "couches"), but was really bouncy and crazy at the other two places. Sorry, Idomo guy.

We hit the bookstore on the way home, and then came home for some video games, a delicious dinner, and a good night's sleep!

11 kids and no vomit

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and Daddy and I all woke up in time to say goodbye to Nana and Jim and to thank them for visiting us - we all had a really great time! We were pretty sad to see them go.

After a morning of video games and playing, Mommy and Daddy took me over to the MacDermott's for Corrin's fourth birthday party. It was pretty amazing - 11 kids, a bunch of parents, balloon animals, pizza, cake, and no tantrums, allergic reactions, vomiting, or injuries. Pretty amazing - Arlynn and Jay are both very very brave and very very amazing. I had a great time.

Mommy and Daddy and I went home in the afternoon and kept things pretty low-key. While my parents both passed out on the couch in front of the television, I snuck back onto the computer to play more video games!

Happy Pee-Pee Walk

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy should take me for morning walks more often. I was so happy and sweet and funny on the walk to the vet (we had to drop off another canine urine sample) - random strangers kept commenting on how happy and gleeful I was!

When we got back, I hung out with Nana and Jim and stuff before school. I pretty much stayed glued to Claire once I got to class, and played with a lot of blocks. I came home, hung out with Nana and Jim some more, drew some pictures (Nana taught me how to put the date on my artwork) and when Daddy came home from work, we played a lot of video games together.

We tried to take Nana and Jim out to a restaurant, but everywhere we went had crazy long line-ups, so we ordered Swiss Chalet and watched Jeopardy! instead.

We're with COCO!

Birthday Serenade

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I played some video games this morning, and then Mommy and I really hustled to get ready for Sara's birthday party. We wrapped presents, I drew a picture, we got dressed, and then Grandpa drove us over to Julie's place. I was so happy to see her and James! Julie and I walked over to Sara's school, and we picked her up when she got out.

Sara really loved the necklace and bracelet I made for her. We were soon joined by my old friend Jacqueline and her little sister Olivia (the quietest baby ever) - we played with toys, ate a ridiculous amount of food, and I serenaded Sara with a seven-minute rendition of 'Happy Birthday".

When it was time to go, Mommy told me that Nana and Jim would be waiting for me at home. I didn't believe her, and figured she was just kidding. Well, imagine my surprise when it turned out she was telling the truth! I was so happy to see them - I couldn't wait to show Nana my new, re-arranged bedroom.

I Am The Helper.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy woke up with his throat in tatters, so he decided to play it safe and stay home from work. On the upside, he now has an awesome blue-eyed soul baritone voice instead of his usual nerdy tenor.

I was super stoked to go to school, because today was the day I got to be the helper again! It's so awesome - I got to hand out snacks, take the blue book to the office, and be the leader when time came to go outside. There are more perks, but my parents fail to grasp how awesome being the class helper for the day is. It's a truly transformative experience.

Mommy picked me up from school and we went right into the toy store to get presents for Sarah, and then we came home and made delicious Rice Krispie squares to take to Sarah's party tomorrow. I played some video games with Daddy, and learned a little bit about earthquakes and why they're sad.

Dirt Angels

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had a nice day at school today - we went to the gym AND to the library, and I played with my friends. After Mommy came to pick me up, I got to hang out in the playground for, like, forty-five minutes, and had a blast playing. I DID manage to get a little bit carried away and tried to make snow angels... only there wasn't any snow today. Just dirt. So I made a bunch of grimy, muddy dirt angels and got my clothes pretty soiled.

Daddy came home from work with his throat problems really bothering him... he wasn't into going out for dinner, which made me freak out. We had to have some words about what was an appropriate response to not going out for dinner. He met me halfway and ordered Swiss Chalet instead. I devoured it.

I get to be the helper in school tomorrow! It's so exciting!

Basil's Three Vet Appointments

[As transcribed by Daddy]

As the result of a little 'incident' I had re: watching too many videos on the computer, it was hands off the machine for the rest of the day - Mommy and I made presents for Sarah's birthday on Thursday, and then took Basil to the vet for the first of three appointments today. While I was there, I asked the attendants whether or not they ever looked after cows or goldfish, and told them all about The Wonder Pets.

School was fun - afterwards, Mommy let me go and play in the big playground with Adriana. We came home and took Basil to his third vet appointment (Mommy took him to the second while I was in school) and came home for the last official soup dinner of 'soup week'. I also got to visit with Tim and Wade and Debbie at Gammy's place.

I'm very upset with Daddy for finishing off all of the pickles today. He never shares them with the rest of us!

Happy Birthday Evan's Dad

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I visited my Grandparents this morning, excited about Grandpa's impending birthday party. I described the cake Mommy was making to Gammy, prompting her to ask if the cake was a surprise. I replied “No, I think Mommy already knows.”

I played some video games with Daddy and after lunch we all went to the mall to get the birthday presents I selected for Grandpa - a scarf, a turkey baster, and a gravy boat. We headed home and played more video games!

The party was fun - Gammy made a full-on Japanese dinner, which we all devoured. Grandpa opened all of his presents (he loves the turkey baster in particular) and we ate cake (I had Mommy write the words "Happy Birthday Evan's Dad' on it)! I went to bed having remarked that Ggrown-up birthday parties aren't so bad after all!"

Soup Week Continues

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy made me some delicious grits for breakfast, which I enjoyed before playing a bunch of video games. Awesome! We all enjoyed a nuce lunch together, and then headed out in the iddle of the afternoon to do some hiking - the first real hike we've gone on in months. It was warm, the snow was melty, so we figured... let's not waste the opportunity!

Walker Woods, northeast of the city, was a bit cooler and snowier than Toronto, but we still had a good time. I spent a good chunk of the walk writing around on the ground in my snowpants, and being really silly. You could tell that Basil was ridiculously happy to come along.

We ran some errands on the way home - we got some groceries, some birthday presents for a certain Grandpa I know, and came home for a delicious Broccoli & Almond soup dinner (The fifth day in a row we've had sop for dinner!).

Rosita! Time for Dinner!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy worked from home today - I kept him entertained by making really cool cars and stuff out of Lego and then bringing them to him and getting his feedback. He is a Creative Director, after all. Which is kinda like being a Dad.

He and Mommy went out on a date while I was at school (they went to a restaurant where they could eat wheat) and then came to pick me up when school was over. Everything is warming up outside, so the playground was melty, and I got pretty mucky.

We went for a drive to find some new slippers for me - we hit up Old Navy, Globo, Winners, The Shoe Company, and finally hit paydirt at Zellers. Who'd have thought we'd have to jump through hoops for slippers?!

Through it all, Daddy and I were silly - we made up finny dialogues between an imaginary little girl named 'Rosita' and her Mommy.

Kumquat?

Clover Pop-Up

It was a two-breakfast morning, followed by some playing in my room (I set up a little Playmobil Jeopardy! show). Mommy took me to school, where we had gym class. My Mommy packed me a snack, as usual, but this time I wasn't sure what kind of fruit it was. When she came to pick me up (with Basil in tow again), I asked her about it. She told me it was mango slices... I said "Oh, I thought it was a kumquat".

The two of us had a pretty nice afternoon together... I visited Grandpa, who had a new movie camera to test out (see above!) and goofed around with him.

Daddy came home from work pretty exhausted. The two of us played Batman in my room, and when he started falling asleep on my bed I tucked him in, brought him Cinnamon Bunny, and turned the light out. It's amazing how that guy can get bedhead after napping for only ten minutes.

There can be only one!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning I was playing in my room when Mommy came into just kinda hang out and watch me. That was kinda weird, so I backed away slowly and went to visit my grandparents.

School was eventful today. One of my friends declared herself to be the prettiest, so I threw a major tantrum in front of everyone... we're talking a major meltdown where I screamed "My Mommy Told Me I'm Beautiful!" and I had to have a good talking-to by Mrs. Bartlett and Mrs. Macintosh about how more than one girl can be 'the prettiest'. Anyway, by the time the end of the school day came around, me and the girl in question were back to being friends and played in the playground. I still claim she called me 'ugly', though.

After Daddy came home, I made him laugh uproariously by improvising patter for cable cooking show hosts and then sitting on his ear in an attempt to invent a new 'high-five'.

Prunes!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had a great time with Mommy this morning - we just kinda hung out in my room and played! It was fantastic. And then out of nowhere, I surprised Mommy by spontaneously cleaning my room without having been asked to. I even made the bed! I didn't do the best job, but it's the effort and intentions that count.

I had a good day at school - Mommy and Basil came to pick me up afterwards, and once again Claire was pretty fascinated by Basil. All the kids left the playground, but I was still pretty insistent on playing in it all by myself, and had a bit of a meltdown when it was time to leave.

I did a lot of drawing and playing video games in the afternoon. After Daddy came home we had a pretty late dinner - prune and leek soup. And I have to tell you - I absolutely love prunes. I'm so happy to have discovered them! My new fave! I must have eaten ten big unsweetened prunes before bed...

Basil Questions

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I had a nice breakfast played some video games, and then went to school. We played, I had a yummy snack, and when Mommy came to pick me up, she brought Basil along - Claire got to meet him and asked many questions about him. It was pretty cute. We're still waiting on his test results from the vet.

When I got home, I got to watch the premiere of 'Dino Dan', the new Treehouse show made by the people who came and filmed me last summer for a different show! It was pretty cool.

After Daddy came home (he had a crummy day at work), he took Mommy and I out for dinner, and then we did some grocery shopping. I got to stay up kinda late, and boy - could everyone tell I was up past my bedtime.

The Funniest Man I Know

[As transcribed by Daddy]

The day started when Basil decided to take off once more while going for his morning bathroom break and make a bee-line for that garbage at the bottom of the ravine. We eventually got him to come back, but not without a lot of yelling.

After some playing in my room (and watching Mommy re-arrange it a bunch), I parked in front of the computer and played video games while wearing Daddy's big headphones. THAT MADE ME SING AND SPEAK AT A RIDICULOUSLY LOUD VOLUME.

After Mommy and Daddy finished tidying, Daddy picked up Jim ("The Funniest Man I Know") & Kristin from the subway and brought them home - and all of my pent-up anticipation and excitement exploded in an eruption of glee! I could barely stop moving and talking for the entire time they were here. They played with me in my room, joined us for dinner, and we all had a great time.

Cheesecake Anticipation

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had a pretty nice morning with my family today - I played some video games and had a lovely breakfast. After lunch, I watched Daddy play some games, and then we all loaded into the car and drove over to the bookstore.

Daddy and I had a nice time just sort of walking around looking at stuff while Mommy picked out some nice craft books. Once she was done, we got some coffee and tea and headed home!

I drew a cool picture for Leo's birthday, and then went over to his place for a little party. I got to see Avery again, as well as other new kids named Dylan and Gillian. All day I was pretty much just looking forward to eating the special cheesecake Mommy made for me, but had a really good time in general.

We hit the grocery store on the way home to make lasagna for when Kristin & Jim come over tomorrow. I can't wait to see them!

Sarcophagism

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Man is it ever cold out there today. Daddy put on one of Mommy's warm winter granny-sweaters and didn't care that it made him look like a little old lady.

I had a tough day at school today, kinda. You see - I always feel as though I have to police what all the kids are doing for some reason, as well as the fact that I kinda like to be in control of play and 'direct' everyone. Some of the other kids weren't doing what I wanted, and it made me kinda grumpy and pouty. After shouting rudely at some of the other kids, Mommy took me home from the playground.

The afternoon was alright... I played video games and stuff. The later it got the crazier and more spastic I got - Daddy made a sarcastic joke at the television at one point, which caused me to excitedly exclaim (all frenzied) "Daaad, you're being so sarcophagus!" It made my parents laugh.

SUPER DOUBLE BOO-URNS TO YOU, BOOKSTORE!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

School was good today... I got some new books to read, played with my friends, and told everyone that I was gonna watch Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs at dinner to night - as such I couldn't allow myself to watch any television leading up to it.

My folks picked me up after school and took me over to our favourite bookstore at Shops at Don Mills... only to discover that it was closed and empty! We were heartbroken! It was open and busy as of, like, a week ago, which is weird. As we walked back to the car I shouted "Super Double Boo-Urns to you, Bookstore - even though you were my favourite!"

We got home, picked up the dog, got him to pee in a jar, and took him to the vet for a checkup (he's been drinking water and peeking like crazy for the past month). We waited around for a looong time, and then my parents paid for the lab tests. They paid through the teeth (but he's worth it).

We came home and watched my movie - which was awesome.

Televisioned-Out

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I watched a lot of television today - something like two hours' worth of programming in all. So that was that. Daddy brought home a copy of 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' for me to watch (which has me over-the-moon excited) but we're gonna save it for tomorrow since I'm kinda televisioned-out.

School was fun today even though something like eight kids were home sick. When Mommy came to pick me up, she hung out with Clair's Mom at the playground, which meant I got to stay and play with Clair for a really long time! Awesome!

We had a nice afternoon as well. Daddy came home from work a bit early, and had a lovely dinner with me before headnig out to run some errands. He came home with an enormous bag of dog food, but I was so busy playing in my room that I didn't even notice he went anywhere!

Oh - plus, I was in a music video today.

Welcome New Cousin!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Congrats to cousin Robin, who had another baby yesterday - dunno the name yet, but we know it's a little girl. Welcome to the world, new little cousin! Please be nice to Nevi and Skye and Brian!

Mommy slept in a bit today - I very responsibly played some video games and then capped myself at a sensible amount. We had a nice morning (we played some more of my castle game), and then I went to school after lunch - Mr. Sheffle is growing a beard and a moustache, and I think it looks good. The regular librarian was off today, so the substitute librarian read to us instead.

It was really snowy again outside, so of course the TTC fell apart and Daddy had to get a ride home (which ironically didn't take as long as transit does). We had a nice dinner, and then it was off to bed!

Slop

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Well after weeks of being at home, climbing the walls, travelling to Virginia, spending time with my family, it was back to school today. I had a nice average morning (Mommy was a little bit out of commission, so I had to take it easy on her), and then she took me to school through the freezing freezing cold!

School was good - I was happy to see my friends and play and stuff. I had a great time in the playground afterwards - Daddy came home from work a bit early to pick me up, which was nice. He put a DVD on for me to watch in the afternoon.

Mommy invented a nice Thai-ish meal she lovingly called "slop" for dinner. I liked it, but I liked the squishy sounds it made in my bowl even more.

Blueberry Sauce

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It's pretty cold and snowy again outside, so... for, like, the fourth day in a row, we didn't do any of the stuff we thought we might do, and just kinda hung out inside.

Late in the afternoon I asked my folks if I could go outside, so they let me - I was as happy as a clam playing in the snow, wearing my snowpants, keeping myself amused. I was a little bit put out when it was time to come inside and then go grocery shopping.

Once we got back from said supermarket, Mommy made a fantastic pancake dinner with blueberry sauce. Considering that I hadn't stopped talking all day, it made sense that I was too wound up to sleep - after complaining about a tummy ache, I promptly threw up blueberry sauce all over my bed. This got me a free pass to snooze with Mommy tonight.

The Olympics Show

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It was faze-freezingly cold again outside today, so once more our plans to travel or go anywhere of interest were pretty much scuppered. Instead, we made do and just hung out at home. Well - everyone except for Basil, of course, who decided to go exploring in the middle of the night and found a discarded frozen garbage bag at the bottom of the ravine that he wanted to eat. Caused some drama.

I had a nice visit with Cool Uncle Gareth before he headed back to You Nork... he played with me and put me upside-down a bunch of times. Oh - and he cut Daddy's hair short. And did a really great job of it, too!

After watching some figure skating on television, I invited my entire family over to our place after dinner to put on what I called an "Olympics Show' - I set up the place, turned off the lights, turned on some music, and did a pantomime demo of Telemark, Downhill Skiing, "Dance-Skiing", Cross-Country Skiing, Uphill Skiing, and spinny figure skating.

The Castle Game

[As transcribed by Daddy]

So, the plan was to go outside today - you know, take the dog for a much-needed hike, go someplace far away for some honey... anyway, Daddy and Cool Uncle Gareth got kinda "stuck" playing video games, plus the roads outside are slippery and icy, so we decided to put off the hike until another day.

Instead, Daddy and Mommy (mostly Mommy) did a pretty good job cleaning up their room, and Daddy tried to catch the British broadcast of his favourite show. He took me outside briefly so that I could enjoy the falling snowflakes - we had a great time! I played an awesome castle-themed game with Mommy (a present from the family in Montreal), which I can't wait to do again.

We joined Gammy and Grandpa and Nee Nee for a big turkey dinner, which I devoured. Going to bed is tough tonight - I just wanna play that castle game!

The Queen of New Year's Eve

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had a nice morning today - I hung out with my grandparents, played some video games, and ate some delicious gluten-free oatmeal. I had some delicious leftovers at lunch, and watched Daddy play some video games - I visited briefly with Cool Uncle Gareth, played endlessly with my Whoopee Cushion, and then Mommy and Daddy and I had to go and run a few errands.

We picked up some groceries for tomorrow's big dinner over at the Big Carrot, drove back, and I splashed in the rain with my new boots. Mommy and Daddy re-explained the concept of New Year's Eve, so I decided to put on a big gown, my tiara, and as many decorative necklaces I could find - not to mention a pair of Gammy's shoes - so that I could become 'The Queen of New Year's Eve'.

Mommy and Daddy and I went over to Lisa and Matt's place for dinner, which was lovely ... I played with Leo and his friend Avery. It was fun for all of the parents to see how late us kids could stay up before things got too "Lord of the Flies'-ish. They ended up doing a fakeout New Year's countdown just after 10 before we went home. Happy New Year!

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
