Toilet Training

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I learned a hilarious new word today: "Cordy-Oy!" It's a material you make pants (and little bears) out of.

Today was a full day of potty training. I went through three pairs on underpants, peed in the potty three times, and pooped in a diaper (thank goodness). so far, so good... I'm getting the hang of this whole 'toilet' deal. I just need to learn to tell Mommy before I go pee, and not after. Anyway, we didn't go out much today... just hung out around the bathroom. We'll probably be doing the same until I've got everything figured out.

I ate about ten peaches, snuck as much chick pea salad as I could when Daddy's back was turned, and played a game with Jumbo called "You need more blankets!" for quite a while. Daddy went out to a concert and Mommy and I relaxed at home.

Antiques and Badlands

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Leslie came over this morning and joined Mommy and Daddy and I for some banana bread and peaches. Next we all loaded into the car and went to the Aberfoyle Antiques Market out in the middle of nowhere. Lots of sun, walking, antiques, dust, and junk. Mommy found some cool stuff, and Daddy had fun watching the people.

Afterwards, we headed across the street and had a fancy lunch at a nice restaurant, and then went for a drive over to Glen Williams, where Mommy found a cool new store. We took Leslie over to the wacky and hidden Cheltenham Badlands, which I loved so much I did a little dance for all to see.

I fell asleep on the way home - when I woke, Leslie was gone, which made me cry. She's pretty awesome (and she immortalized the day over on her blog, too... Daddy stole her photo, since his camera was suffering from Mac-itis). I got over it by playing Doctor with Jumbo and Basil... "Dr. Basil" had to remove "Spider-Man boogers" from Jumbo's nose. Weird.

Jazz Festival

[As transcribed by Daddy]

After Daddy finally woke up (he was up late last night finishing a book), he joined Mommy and I for some television and some visiting with the Nixons. After a quick and small lunch, the three of us drove down to the Beaches to check out the jazz festival, do some walking around, and maybe do a little shopping. We walked from one end of the festival area to the other (I spent most of the walk up on Daddy's shoulders) and got some ice cream along the way. We paid a visit to the butcher, got some groceries, drove home, and were all pretty wiped out. Must've been a combination of the ice cream and the humidity.

Mommy napped while I refused to do the same - after dinner I finally went to sleep at a normal hour, only to wake up a few hours later due to night terrors or nightmares or a wet diaper, or something.

Lunacy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning Mommy and I took the bus down to the playground in the beaches to see our old post natal friends: Catherine & Charlie and Lisa & Charlotte. I was happy to see them for the first time in months, but man oh man - was I ever a lunatic. I ran around nonstop, chatted, played, threw sand, yelled, slammed into stuff, laughed, stomped... it was crazy! Mommy didn't have a chance to visit with anyone, seeing as how she had to carefully follow me around the whole time. I literally ran and talked circles around all the other kids.

Once we got back, I needed a serious nap - and was kinda grumpy after I woke up. I visited with the Nixons and played with some toys until Daddy came home, and then we all had Chinese food for dinner, which I kept dangling in Basil's face.

Fingers crossed that the stinky dead raccoon hanging in the tree outside our back door turns out to have been a deep sleeper and, like, goes somewhere tonight.

Gotta have a straw

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I had something of a lazy morning. Much to my surprise, I discovered that Aunt Wendy and Uncle ("Aunt") Roger were visiting my grandparents. Weird! I did some playing outside... sandbox, pool, that kinda stuff.

I had a nap this afternoon that kind of freaked me out. I got so worked up afterwards that I had to have a post-nap nap. After that, I was in a weird mood - I decided I didn't like Grandpa, Aunt Wendy, or Nee-Nee. I wanted Juice, then Chocolate Milk, then Juice, then not, then both, then neither, then... whatever. I just had to have a straw.

I kept thinking Daddy was in New York ("Yoo Nork"), and was really happy when he came home and took Mommy and I grocery shopping. He's super excited that he and Mommy are 'finally fully debt free', whatever that is.

1-2-3-Daddy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

When Daddy woke me up this morning, the first thing out of my mouth was: "Daddy! Presents?!" Looks like he's set a disturbing precedent.

Anyway, today I played outside in my sandbox, in my little swimming pool, and all over the house. Mommy has totally figured out the best way to keep me entertained: home-made play-dough. Wow, is that stuff ever captivating. Just give me a bucket of play-dough and some Toopie & Binoo cartoons and I'll be so distracted, a lady would be able to read an entire book without having to ever take notice of me.

After Mommy put me to bed, I just hung out in my crib and yakked away. In fact, Grandpa could hear me via my baby monitor repeatedly counting "One... two... three... Daddy" over and over again.

Shoe-Shee

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy's home! I was so excited to see him this morning! Of course, he brought me presents - a book and a Bunny, which I named 'Cinnamon' for some reason. Daddy sure knows how to spoil me.

I trashed the apartment during the day today, and Mommy figured she'd get me out of there by offering to take me either to the zoo or the playground. I chose the playground(!)... while we were there, I met some other kids, including a little girl named Isabella that I thought was 'beautiful' and who I kept hugging. Very sweet.

When Daddy came home from work (on time!), he took Mommy and I out to dinner (to make up for her & I not getting to eat the awesome food he had in New York). I suggested having 'Shoe-Shee,' so... we did.

Magic Marker Masterpiece

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I missed Daddy, so I picked up Mommy's phone today while she wasn't looking and left him a 10-minute message of random button-pressing-beeps, a "Daddy?! Hi Daddy!", and a lot of dead space. Long distance to New York isn't too much, right?

Mommy was still tired today, but I kept myself entertained by drawing all over my lower extremities with a magic marker. I drew long brown lines up and down my legs, purple squiggles on my feet, and I somehow managed to draw a series of red dots all over my butt.

Some Toopie & Binoo books arrived for me in the mail today. Awesome! Also, while I slept, Daddy came home with presents in tow that I'll open tomorrow.

Chatterbox

[As transcribed by Daddy on July 24th]

I was perfectly behaved today, by all accounts. What can I say... every now and then I seem to pick days where I'm just gonna be more perfect than I usually am, if that's possible. Mommy read her new book last night and most of today, and was running low on sleep, so it's probably a good thing that I wasn't... you know, too much of a spaz.

I didn't want to sleep in my crib tonight. Since Daddy's still in Manhattan, I figured I could sleep in Mommy's bed, which I did - but not before a stunning two-hour continuous monologue that blew Mommy's (tired) mind. I couldn't stop chatting about anything and everything. It was truly something to behold. I talked and talked and talked.

In the middle of the night, I fell out of bed. Mommy turned the light on, worried, but all I yelled was "No! Light Hurt Eyes!" and went back to sleep after some more mindless conversation.

Aunt Roger's Birthday

[As transcribed by Daddy on July 24th]

With Daddy in New York City, Mommy and Gammy and Grandpa and I had a loooong car drive to Aunt Roger's birthday party in Muskoka. Because of some traffic we ate a late-ish lunch of pancakes, mushrooms, and french fries. I started crying about my diaper hurting right after lunch. Mommy checked, but found nothing. I continued to cry until we pulled over and changed my completely dry, clean diaper. This satisfied me for about a minute, until my complaints of "diaper hurt your bum" started again. After some time of crying and Mommy trying desperately to distract / comfort me, I pooped, and immediately passed out, so I guess it wasn't the diaper hurting my bum after all.

Had a GREAT time at Aunt Roger's birthday. I was surprised to see Nee Nee there. I remembered to say 'happy birthday' and 'surprise!' to Aunt Roger; he looked cute in the blue party hat I brought for him. I loved playing in the dirt / sand and rocks and the ice bucket and I made some new friends and saw Grace again. I really like Grace.

Ran and ran and ran until I was really tired then I asked to go home. I slept pretty much the whole drive home, and I didn't even complain when Mommy made me go right back to sleep in my crib. I miss Daddy. So does Mommy.

Monster Car?

[As transcribed by Daddy on July 24th]

Daddy was up and to work ridiculously early this morning. He came back around noon (kinda sick) with a huge car in tow. I really wanted to ride in it with him, but he had to go to New York with some friends. "Go see Weesa [Lisa] in Monster Car!" I asked.

Right after that, Cool Uncle Gareth went home (via airplane) for the same place. "Go Airplane!" I asked, but again, no luck for me. Instead, I did some grocery shopping with Mommy and Gammy, and I didn't have a nap at any point during the day. I lovingly fell asleep in Mommy's arms at the end of the day.

...commence the 'Terrible Twos'

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Yup. Just Two years and one day old, and suddenly the old adage about "the terrible twos" has come to pass. It all started this morning, when I was hanging out with Mommy outside... I started walking off down the street. Mommy told me to come back, and I threw one heck of a good tantrum. I mean... I really just, like, laid down on the ground, kicking and screaming. You know - the whole big production. I was in a bad and difficult mood for some time afterward (except for the brief moments that I forgot I was so angry).

I got to ride around on my trike outside, I played some more with Cool Uncle Gareth (he's a lot of fun) and all of my new toys and books from yesterday.

I suppose you can't go from being the centre of the universe one day and then just a regular toddler the next without some screaming.

Two Years Old!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I woke up singing Happy Birthday songs to myself. That oughtta tell you how hyped I was for today's birthday festivities! Mommy and I went out for lunch and to buy flowers this afternoon, then came home and had a nap. I woke up in a foul mood - but managed to speak with my American Grandparents on the phone and even sang 'Happy Birthday' to Papa!

Mommy put on one heck of a great birthday party for me this evening, even though it started raining and we had to movie it inside. The MacDermots (Jay, Arlynn, and Corrin), Leslie, The Jays (Julie, Sarah, Steve, and James), Cool Uncle Gareth, my folks, Gammy and Grandpa, and the Johnsons (Lucie and Richard - whose attendance I insisted upon, as you'll recall) all showed up and much pizza and lemonade was consumed by all.

I got lots of great presents (books, toys, musical instruments, learning stuff, art stuff, and a tricycle) and was really excited - but as the evening wore on, I crashed pretty hard. What a fun evening, though! Thanks to all for attending and helping to make the day so special.

Cool Uncle Surprise

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This afternoon, after a lovely morning of pancakes and kids' television, Mommy and I took the bus to the supermarket to see if we couldn't locate a decent pot roast. No luck! We took the bus home, and stopped at the toy store on the way home - we picked up a catalogue. No big whup.

Not long after making it back home, Cool Uncle Gareth paid a surprise visit! Gammy and Grandpa were shocked to have him over... apparently, Mommy was the only one who knew he was coming. He spent most of the afternoon playing with me - I showed him my sandbox, my new kitchen, and all of my toys. Daddy came home (equally surprised to see Gareth) and after I went to bed, he took over playing (video games) with him.

Pizza, Pinwheels, and Play-Dough

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I'm incredibly excited about my upcoming birthday! Today Mommy prepared food and decorations and stuff for my party, and I got a whole mess of homemade play dough out of the deal. Party hats, pinwheels, pizzas... wow! I can't begin to stress how much I'm looking forward to my birthday - and I don't even know what it is! When Daddy came home from work, I ran up to him and told him it was my birthday!

Grandpa drove Mommy and I to the butcher to pick up some tomato sauce (since a parent who shall go nameless accidentally smashed a whole bottle on the kitchen floor the other day), and we ended up taking the bus home. I love taking the bus and all, but... I wasn't really into the excursion on the whole. I was too preoccupied... ...with my birthday!

Three Naps and Rain

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was a day of naps. After breakfast, Daddy napped while "supervising" as I played in the living room. Then Mommy and Daddy and I took Basil for a drive out to Ajax, and I had a nap in the car on the way. Once we got there, we had a nice picnic in the park, and did some leisurely walking before it could rain on us. We had a great time, looking at trees, dragonflies, woodpeckers, and rocks. Awesome!

We came home (got milkshakes on the way) for a quick breather, when it really started to pour outside. Daddy and I ran around on the front lawn in the rain, and I got completely drenched! Mommy changed my pants, the sun came out, and we all did some shopping for new clothes.

When we got home, Mommy had a nap before dinner. Maybe there was something in the water...

No Slusho Here

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Woah, I slept in this morning! My parents sure were grateful. We all puttered around the house for a bit before finally going to the butcher to pick up some groceries and stuff. I had a quick nap in the afternoon, during which my parents went out and did some birthday shopping for me (which I'm technically in the dark about, but whatever... for the sake of the blog and all...). I woke up and played with my grandparents before they got home.

Mommy and Daddy took me out for an ice cream cone, and we also went to the bookstore (where I played with some goofy kids) before dinner. Daddy and I hung out and played with my new kitchen set and a beach ball in my room, too. Good stuff!

It's recently come to light that this site (and Daddy's) have somehow been linked to / associated with an ARG for J.J. Abram's latest movie ("Cloverfield" / "Slusho"). We swear there's no connection (although my parents looove Lost) between this site and Bad Robot Productions, Paramount Pictures, or 1-18-08... but hey, we all appreciate the traffic and friendly emails!

Imaginary Marshmallow Delivery

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy witnessed a surreal moment - a one-sided conversation between myself and the dog (which, incidentally, the dog won). He was sitting on the blanket GG made me, and I stood there, yanking on it, trying to pull it out from under him, saying "No, Basil! Clover's GG Blanket! Basil, no! Clover's GG Blanket!"

Back to my kitchen playset-thing. I was at it all day, once again... throughout the day I kept "making marshmallows" and bringing them to Mommy. After something like eighteen imaginary marshmallow deliveries, she had enough - we made real marshmallows.

Daddy took us all out to dinner when he got home from work. All afternoon I asked for a milkshake... but once we got to the restauraunt, I forgot about the milkshake and asked for grilled cheese, instead.

Play-Cookin'

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Had a nice, quiet day at home - nice weather, nice sandbox, and nice gardening. I can't say I liked having the sprinkler getting in my way, though. Neither did Basil.

I actually spent most of the day either playing with or asking to play with my new kitchen toy. If anyone asks me if I like my kitchen, I nod and say "It's nnneeeeeeewwww." I pretended to make eggs and strawberry milkshakes... and played with home-made play dough in the afternoon, until Mommy caught me eating it.

I dipped my pineapple chicken in my glass of milk at dinner and loved it. Give a kid a license to [play] cook, and lord knows what kind of weirdness I'll come up with.

To The 'Shwa

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Woah, bug bites! I woke up with a whole bunch of them on me! There's huge, but tend to disappear quickly.

Mommy and I went to the chiropractor's with Gammy. I was pleasantly excited to see his receptionist Debbie, who I haven't seen in ages. Gammy and I played in the 'bumpy ball room.' As usual.

After Daddy came home from work, we had a quick dinner and then packed into the car for a quick drive to pick up a new, huge, toy kitchen. So big, in fact, that it wouldn't fit it in the car. We had to keep the trunk open and hold everything in place with bungee cords, which meant a slow, leisurely drive home from the 'Shwa, and a late bedtime for me.

No Like Daddy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I don't like Daddy anymore. I mean, I do... but after he wakes me up in the morning and brings me to Mommy, I play this game where I don't wanna snuggle or hug him or kiss him (and when I do, I wipe my mouth on Mommy's shirt). Unless Mommy or Basil snuggle him, in which case I get jealous, laugh about it, and am sweet to Daddy.

Mommy and I played outside a lot today. It was insanely humid, but the tree-cover in the back yard keeps things cool. Two caterpillars discovered the awesomeness of my sandbox and decided to nest there. Interesting! I made up a funny song for Mommy and sang it to her in the tub.

Right before Daddy came home from work (late), Mommy tried to put me in a pair of jammies. When I refused, she told me she'd let Daddy wear them. I immediately insisted that I ought to be the one to wear them, which I did.

New Cowboy Hat

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning Mommy and I took the subway over to a faraway mall. I like riding the train and all, but I'm always ready to disembark three stops prior to our destination. Anyway, the mall was fun - Mommy finds it hard to shop with me, seeing as how I'm into everything -- you'd be surprised how non-kid-friendly the Disney Store is. Anyway, we left the mall with some socks, some soap, some jammies, some bubbles, and and... a new cowboy hat?!

I had a nap when we got home, from which I woke up screaming at one point. Mommy calmed me down and got me back to sleep, and afterwards I played outside for a bit and fell on my face in my sandbox. After Daddy came home from work and we all had dinner, I got to stay up and watch TV with my parents - and I managed not to ruin their show!

Little Red Riding Clover

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Nuts to my parents - they may want to sleep in on weekends, but not me... I want to wake up and play! At 6:30 in the morning, even! Eventually I dragged them out of bed... we had some breakfast, and I was cranky just the same. Daddy bailed on Mommy and I to go do some voice recording stuff with Hubert, and I remained in a foul mood prior to having a nap.

When I woke up, Mommy and Daddy and I went out for some coffee and our first trip to the zoo in, well... several weeks. It was overcast and humid, which kept the crowds away - we took a full Zoomobile tour (I loved it!) and I got a chance to read a story to the orangutans, like I planned... although I was a little nervous about it once the time came. Hopefully the story "Little Red Riding Clover makes cupcakes with Daddy" was to their liking.

Sunday, July 08, 2007

Uh Oh!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It's another hot one outside today! Mommy and Daddy took me to the chiropractor this morning - I played with the exercise balls, as usual, while Babak fixed my parents. We came home, had lunch, and I played outside in my little inflatable pool and my sandbox. Mommy let me water the flowers, so I watered the same flowers, over and over and over again.

After my nap, Mommy and Daddy took me out for a milkshake, and then we did a bunch of grocery shopping. After dinner, Daddy took me to the bookstore, where I played with the wooden train set (as usual). There were some other kids there who didn't speak English... we all played well together. I knocked a train over and said "Uh oh!" and then this one little girl said "Uh Oh!" and then her brother said "Uh Oh!" and then I said "Uh Oh!" and before long all parents in the vicinity were laughing hysterically.

Birthday List

[As transcribed by Daddy]

After I woke up and had breakfast... then Daddy came home from work?! Wha? And then... he went to bed?! Double-wha?!

While Daddy slept, Mommy and I hung out and did some working and playing outside. I tried to help Mommy with the yardwork as much as I could, when I wasn't running around and playing the new sand toys from Julie. At one point, I got insanely excited when Toopie & Binoo came on TV. Then Daddy woke up and went back to work while we ate dinner.

I'm getting equally excited for my upcoming birthday. I'm hoping my parents plan something fun... when Mommy turned on the blinking lights outside, I asked if they were 'blinking birthday lights for Clover?!' Mommy asked me who I wanted to come over for my birthday... here's the list I provided, in order:

Caught in the Rain

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I went to Julie & Sarah's this morning. We had a nice visit which included lunch - it will also be our last visit with them for a while, because it looks like Julie will be giving birth aaaany day now, and Sarah will have a sibling! We did some errands on the way home, and managed to get caught in the rain. Have I ever mentioned how excited I get to take the bus?

I had a big nap this afternoon, but woke up in a foul mood and pretty much stayed that way for the rest of the afternoon and evening. When Daddy failed to come home from work, it didn't make things any better. There was sandbox playing, flower watering, and DVD watching, but... yeah, stayed in a bad mood.

The Happy Birthday Cake Hat

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It's raining, it's pouring, and the old man is snoring. Mommy spent the day trapped in the apartment with a wound-up toddler (me), who figured out how to turn the lights on and off in the house by positioning my little step ladder underneath the switch, standing on it, and flicking the switch. And then flicking it back. Lights on, lights off. Lights on, lights off. Lights on lights off lights on lights off lightsonlightsofflightsonlightsoff...

Mommy baked me a batch of play-dough, which was fun to play with, when I wasn't trying to eat it. Mommy got a cute little knit handbag in the mail, and I immediately grabbed it and wore it on my head, calling it a 'Happy Birthday Cake Hat.'

After Daddy came home from work and we had dinner, he went out, bought me an ice cream cone, half of which I ate, the other half of which I rammed into Basil's open mouth.

Kid Underwear Pants

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I guess it's too soon after our recent trip to really start potty training... Mommy tried and tried to get me to co-operate, but... not interested. I mean, I said I wanted to wear 'kid underwear pants', but I also really didn't want to poop in the toilet. "No - Diaper!" I also insisted that every poop was blueberry poop.

In non-poop related news, I really missed Nana, Jim and Charlie today. I kept asking to go to their house... perhaps that had something to do with the extreme tantrum I threw before bed tonight.

Running into Traffic

[As transcribed by Daddy on July 4th]

This morning I played with Mommy and Daddy and Nana and Jim... at one point I ran out into traffic, and at another point I put a small electric lamp in my mouth. When I wasn't terrifying my family and giving them heart attacks, I was incredibly cute, and even let Jim lead me by the hand for little walks in the woods.

I didn't want to, but eventually it was time to leave. We all loaded up the car, and bid Nana, Jim, and Charlie adieu. Traffic through New Hampshire and Vermont was heavy - we got stuck in traffic, and I kept whining and screaming and complaining, giving my folks headaches. We stopped at Hogback Mountain and in Bennington for rests.

Comparatively speaking, we shot across New York State pretty quickly, and I slept through a little part of it. We didn't hit traffic again until the evening, once we crossed the border. Oh well... all the junk food we downed kept us all going. We made it home at a minute past midnight, and I got to see Gammy before going to bed.

Mommy! Mommy!

[As transcribed by Daddy on July 4th]

This morning Mommy and Nana and Daddy took me to Wal-Mart where we did some shopping. We bought some toys for me, some stuff for me, and some odds and ends for me. I had lots of fun shopping for and playing with it all! After lunch, Mommy and Nana went Antiquing, which isn't really Daddy's scene or a Clover-proof activity. So... Daddy and I drove to Nashua to do some shopping together! Woo!

Looking at Doctor Who toys was fun and all, but the real excitement was to be found at Borders, where I ran and ran and ran as Daddy chased me around. We had a blast, and managed not to wreck anything or hurt anyone. Of course, I completely crashed on the way home. Once I woke up, I was NOT HAPPY that Mommy wasn't back yet. I cried and cried and cried for my Mommy, freaking Daddy and Jim out big time. Daddy took me to a playground and it totally placated me.

We all went out for dinner, which was fine, and we followed it up with one heck of a monster-sized serving of ice cream. We're all still trying to come out of our sugar comas.

Goats!

[As transcribed by Daddy on July 4th]

New batteries were loaded into the camera today. I swear, Daddy must have taken five hundred photographs already.

After a quick lunch, Mommy and Daddy and Nana and I drove to a petting zoo! It was absolutely fantastic! I had a blast, playing with goats, geese, lambs, sheep, turkeys, pigs, bunnies, and chickens. Everyone thought it was hilarious how I chose this one poor unfortunate golden hen to unrelentingly chase around that farm. I had goats and geese eating out of my hands, I got plenty of exercise, and I stood in a whole lot of animal poop. Needless to say, I did not want to leave!

I woke up from my afternoon nap the second Mommy and Daddy made their afternoon getaway. Nana came into my bedroom, calmed me down, and sang to me... I was out like a light! The two of us had a nap together for close to three hours. When I woke up we all had a great picnic outside, plus I got to run around, play with Nana's lawn ornaments (including the rubber crocodile we brought her), and pose for more photographs. And there was pie for dessert on top of everything else! Can you believe it!? What a great day!
