Travel-ready

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy and Gamma and I drove to a big municipal administrative-type building so that I could receive my very own 'travel letter' in lieu of a baby passport.

Why, are we going somewhere?

Six weeks old

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Not much to report today - although I will once again mention that the lamp in the bedroom is the funniest thing ever. I can't look at that thing and not burst out laughing.

Mommy and Daddy have also really started to notice that I'm becoming less of a 'thing' and more of a 'person' which each passing day.

I don't know if I ought to be offended or honoured.

Sunny Sunday

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy and Daddy and I drove downtown to my second restaurant ever - Sugar, where we had brunch with Mommy's friend Daniele. After that we did some window shopping on Queen Street West... I snoozed through most of it (it weas really hot).

We did some shopping around Mountain Equipment Co-Op and Europe Bound (where they were rude to Daddy) for a GPS device (for Daddy's birthday) but ended up buying one at Canadian Tire instead.

Daddy has decided that when I smile and laugh at him, it's the most wonderful, amazing, and profoundly beautiful thing in the world (no offense, rest of the world).

At work

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I slept a lot today, mostly in my swing-chair. Later in the day, Daddy had some more work he had to do (even though it was the weekend), so we all drove to his office downtown. I had a blast! Daddy thinks it's funny that he can now officially say that someone actually pooped in his office.

The city is hosting Buskerfest right now, so we explored it for a while, but suddenly everything got wet. I don't know how to explain it - there was water everywhere, on my head, on my stroller... people started running. At first I thought it was interesting, but then I decided it was annoying. I wonder what it was...

There goes the neighbourhood

[As transcribed by Daddy]

When I wasn't busy sleeping, I spent more time visiting with friends from Muskoka today. I like them - they're allowed to visit again.

Have I mentioned how funny the lamp is? If I haven't, I should - because it's really funny.

Went for a walk with Mommy and Daddy and the dog today, who was then attacked by two big German Shepherd-things currently staying at a house just a few doors up from us. Basil got away, and Daddy yelled at the dogs' owners to get leashes. So then, one of the owners suddenly blames our dog, Basil (who was simply walking past their house, minding his own business), for inciting the attack (perhaps insinuating something about his breed...), saying something like "It was probably your crazy dog's fault."

Mommy, who had taken me across the street at this point, saw red, got right up into his face and yelled in a big, scary voice, "Don't you dare blame my dog!" The owners all backed down pretty quickly and apologized. Daddy made another nerdy / angry comment about leashes and dogs and babies, Mommy thanked them for apologizing, and Basil didn't seem to notice anything had happened.

My Mommy is tough. I think I'll keep her.

Where's Daddy?

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, I learned to walk, to talk, I graduated from both High School and University, and got married.

Daddy missed it all because he's been working late the whole time.

More visitors

[As transcribed by Daddy]

So, yesterday Mommy and Gamma and I went to the grocery store, and I decided to stay awake for it. It was fine, except for the meat and fish department, which I didn't like. People were commenting on my cool shoes left and right!

Some friends from a faraway place called 'Muskoka' visited later in the day and seemed very happy to see me! They think I'm particularly large for my age.

Swing chair

[As transcribed by Daddy]

So, today was fine... but in the evening it was more of the same - my bones are growing at such a ridiculous rate that it kinda hurts, hence all the kicking and twitching and fussing. The only thing that seems to sate me is when Mommy rocks me in my car seat - so she had Daddy come home from work early, in order to take me to the mall to buy a new swing chair and to exchange some presents that don't fit me.

Now to just put the darned chair together...

First shoes

[As transcribed by Daddy]

A package for me full of lots of jammies and a sweater and stuff arrived from some friends in a faraway place called Edmonton today, and it made everyone's day. Also, I got to try on my first pair of shoes, which were given to me weeks ago by my "Cool" Uncle Gareth, before he moved away to another country.

I don't want to go to sleep.

The funniest day of my life

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, my parents took me to my very first restaurant for brunch. I don't know what all the fuss was about - it was so boring, I slept through the whole thing.

But later in the day, Daddy was talking to me in this high-pitched, squeaky voice thing that he does - and MAN, was it funny. I couldn't stop smiling and laughing at him! If that wasn't enough, then Mommy made some HILARIOUS faces at me, and I couldn't stop laughing at that. But then, to top it off, you should have seen the laundry pile. Oh man, it was so funny! It just sat there in a pile - that's gotta be the funniest laundry ever. It sat there! In a pile! Priceless!

An audio message from Clover

[As transcribed by Daddy]

The above picture is a collage of my favourite things to stare at: the spiral on Mommy & Daddy's bedframe, the bedroom ceiling light, Mommy's face up close, city lights flying past via the car window, Daddy's hairline, my mobile, the living room couch pattern, and the edge of the bedroom door.

To hear some audio commentary from me on the above and the day's events (we went for a nice drive late at night), click here.

1 month old

[As transcribed by Daddy]

As of the other day, I'm officially a month old (way to remember there, Dad. Off to a great start). To celebrate, I was extremely fussy from morning 'till night, perhaps on account of the ridiculous weather - the city we live in actually flooded (whatever that means) due to rain.

I went to the Doctor's office with Mommy and my upstairs-Grandmother (who we'll be calling 'Gamma' from now on, apparently) for visit #3. It sucked. After Daddy came home from work, we went for a drive to quiet me down... that was fine, I suppose.

All hands

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I had a bath - and absolutely loved every minute of it! I don't know what I wasn't enjoying about it before, because man - baths are awesome! Woo!

I went grocery shopping with Mommy, upstairs-Grandma ('Grannie'? 'Gammy'?) and Anisa, the person I'm apparently not related to, but who lives with my grandparents anyway. I slept through the whole trip. After Daddy came home from work, I blargged all over him (it sure did make HIM laugh) and we went out for a drive.

I should mention that I've discovered something noteworthy - these little grabby things at the end of my arms may actually be good for something after all... if I try to co-ordinate them, I can swing them around and knock that nasal aspirator away from my face. I'll have to practice a bit more, but they may turn out to be useful...

Snoozy day

[As transcribed by Daddy]

After yesterday's marathon of consciousness, and my insistence on not sleeping last night, I spent most of today either sleeping, falling asleep, or thinking about sleeping. As such, I should probably be wide awake all night long.

Who needs sleep?!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I'm four weeks old - I slept for five and a half hours straight last night - why on Earth should I sleep today? Who cares if I wear Mommy out? I deserve to be awaaaake!

Bathtime!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

When Daddy came home from work, we went to another mall and hit a few stores - although I have to say, I really didn't like Baby Gap. Came home, had a bath, freaked out a bit, and slept from midnight to 5:30 a.m.!

Sunday shopping

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, Mommy and Daddy took me out shopping - we went to Canadian Tire, Home Depot, and Future Shop. I'm happy to report that I stayed awake for all of it - strangers kept mentioning how cute I was, strapped to Daddy's chest. Hung out at home with Basil for the rest of the day.

Great Grannie in Guelph

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy & Daddy took me on a leisurely Saturday drive to Guelph today, where we visited my Great-Grandmother. She was pretty cool, and had pictures of other cute babies in her place. I'll make sure Daddy sends her some of me to go with the rest.

Strawberries & Foot

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I didn't do anything of note today, but apparently it was Mommy & Daddy's fourth anniversary yesterday. The fourth anniversary is fruit / flowers - Mommy got Daddy a Magnolia DVD, and Daddy got Mommy a bouquet of chocolate-covered strawberries.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, family friends from a faraway land called Vancouver stopped by for brunch. They weren't interesting enough to keep me awake, though.

Out and About

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Went grocery shopping with Mommy and Grandma (the one who lives upstairs), but I slept through it all.

Went for a walk with Daddy after a rainstorm later in the day, but I slept through that, too.

Went to the beaches and a bookstore with Mommy and Daddy late at night, but - you guessed it - I slept through it all.

It should be obvious to everyone that I plan on partying all night long.

It is to laugh

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was fussy today - Mom just wouldn't get the hint that I wanted to be carried around all day. What can I say - you're only young once. I ain't got time for laying around.

When Daddy came home from work, we went to Best Buy - it was neat there. Linens 'N Things put me to sleep, though. Also, I discovered that I don't like being left alone in the car with Daddy - after all, if he's sitting around watching me, who the hell is driving the car?!

I'd also like to finally announce that we have a victor in the "Make Clover Laugh for the First Time" contest. And the winner is... (drumroll)... the DOG, who snuck up and tickled me when he sniffed my poopy butt. And when I say I laughed, I mean the real thing, and not those random grunts and facial contortions I make while soiling myself.

Nasal aspirators really suck

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was good - just kinda hung out with Mom for most of the day. When Daddy came home from work, we all went to the Mall, which was cool for the first few minutes, but then I got bored and went back to sleep.

I'd also like to go on record and declare my utter contempt for that blue bulbous thing that Mom shoves up my nose to remove boogers. I think I'd rather just keep the boogers, thank-you.

Mobile Discovery

I spent a lot of time awake today - at one point, while in my crib, I noticed that there were these really colourful, bright things with black and white spirals rotating above my head. Neat stuff. I think they've been there a while, but I either never noticed, or just couldn't see that far in front of me before.

Anyway, Daddy's friend Nick came over for dinner today, and he brought me a teddy bear, a picture frame on behalf of his parents, and a CD of "Lullabized" Beatles songs.

New photos on flickr

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I just had Daddy upload a whole whackload of pictures taken over the past three weeks to our little flickr.com account, which you can view via the little Flash window on the left-hand-nav. Check 'em out!

Welcome to The Adventures of Clover (and Daddy)!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Hello, world!

I was born July 18th, 2005, at Toronto East General Hospital. All things considered, I'm told it was a relatively quick birth (Mom putting off going to the hospital for as long as possible having had something to do with it - she actually made a pot roast while in labour), although I have to be honest with you - not being in the womb sure is weird. And bright. After I've had more time to come to terms with this place, I'll tell you more about it.

Anyway, over the past few weeks I've been getting along with my parents for the most part... they're slowly getting the hang of my routine:

1) Demand to be fed
2) Feed
3) Fall asleep while feeding
4) Sleep
5) Wake
6) Soil myself
7) Demand a diaper change
8) Repeat.

...although that first night home from the hospital was kinda rough, especially on Dad. Within about 48 hours, though, he seemed to be getting it down. I dunno what his problem was - it's not like he had to give birth or get born or anything.

Aside from the odd chaffed butt, a congested nose, and this one time two weeks ago where my folks drove out to East Gwillimbury for a hike and had the nerve to interrupt my being fed in order to load me into my carrier and take me for a hike in the woods (this did not sit well with me), I'm pretty happy and can't really complain about much.

Last week some other family members came all the way from another country to visit me, and that was cool. I've been visited by my aunt, my ("cool") uncle, my cousin, two grandmothers, and a grandfather (some of whom, I understand, live upstairs). I don't really have who is who sorted out yet (I'm still getting the hang of this 'mom' and 'dad' and 'dog' thing), but I'm working on it.

Time for another weekend drive in my cool orange car seat. I'll have more to say later.

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
