Daddy in Manhattan, Mommy and Clover in discomfort

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Woke up really sick, snotty, and hoarse... in absolutely no shape to drive to New Haven to see Cool Uncle Gareth. So... Mommy and I stayed in New Hampshire, while Daddy drove off to Connecticut (and got lost right off the bat).

Things were alright here, I suppose, until Mommy (also getting sick) developed a killer migraine. Good thing we didn't go with Daddy! We suffered with Nana and Basil and Jim, who had to put up with us,

Meanwhile, Daddy went to New Haven and visited with Cool Uncle Gareth and Julia, and then drove with them to Brooklyn NY. After walking for hours in Manhattan and then enjoying dinner at a nice little Brooklyn restaurant, he went back to Julia's, took a whole whackload of pills, and succumbed to the brutal fever he's developed. What a sorry bunch we are!

Snot.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It's official - I've caught my cousin Lola's cold... but so far, it doesn't seem to be too bad. I'm just covered in mucus, is all.

Another early morning for me (the weather sure did plummet to almost normal temperatures). I ran around and played a lot before lunch - Nana took Mommy and Daddy and I to a restaurant down the street. I got kinda bored quickly, so once Daddy was finished his food he took me home while Mommy and Nana finished their food. Then we realized we needed a key to get in, so we drove back to the restaurant, got the key, and drove home again. Basil sure was glad to see us, as he apparently had to pee quite urgently!

I napped with Daddy this afternoon for a couple of hours, and ate dinner all by myself, since everyone else was still so stuffed from lunch.

Cream Cheese Eating Machine

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Up early today. Mommy and Daddy and Nana and Jim and I headed out for a lovely breakfast at... uh, neither Daddy or I can remember what it was called. However, I did manage to eat a whole cup of cream cheese.

Afterwards, we went to Kohl's to exchange a shirt Daddy got for Christmas, and then we headed back home for lunch and a nap. While I was out like a light (for several hours!) Daddy and Mommy went to Nashua and finally found the camera they were looking for at a small store in the mall. Now Daddy just needs lessons on how to work the darned thing... anyway, Nana and I had a nice hour or so together in the afternoon.

Before bed, Mommy and Daddy and I played with my new Mega Blocks. They build big structures, and then I have a ball tearing them down and throwing the pieces around the room. It's awesome!

Lost in the Supermarket

[As transcribed by Daddy]

When Daddy came to bed last night, he discovered me, Mommy, and the dog taking up all the space. So he grabbed a throw pillow and Charlie's chewed-up towel and went to bed prison-style on the floor in the next room. When we found him there the next morning, it was priceless!

While we left him to sleep in the bed for the rest of the morning (it is Christmas, after all), I went grocery shopping with Nana and Mommy. I got loose and ran away - in three seconds I had scurried across the grocery store. Ergo, after lunch and my nap, Mommy and Daddy and I bought a baby leash for me (while we were fruitlessly searching for a new camera). Daddy things it's slightly degrading, but the weird thing is - I love wearing it!

Cross-Border Weather Weirdness

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It was a veritable Winter Wonderland as we left Montreal this morning. The snow was so thick and heavy that Daddy had to clean off the car four times while loading our stuff into it. I loved it! We said goodbye to everyone and headed out on our long journey... the snow and harsh weather pretty much vanished once we left the city.

We stopped for lunch in Waterbury, Vermont at a little bagel place that we all wholeheartedly endorse! All things considered, it didn't seem like it took very long to get to Nana and Jim's place. At first I was shy around everyone, but before long I was running around and annoying poor Charlie. I got lots more stuff for Christmas, and hopefully I can sleep through the night. The weather here is practically balmy.

If any family members in Montreal are reading this (Cool Uncle Gareth, especially) - please give Daddy a call in New Hampshire! We don't have any of your phone numbers.

Sheer Christmas Lunacy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I opened presents at Eric & Elizbeth's with Lola and Olivia right after breakfast. Then, we all headed over to Uncle Ed and Aunt Diane's for a whole lotta lunch and some more presents! I got some books, some puzzles, a chalk board with chalk, a pig puppet, some jammies and clothes, more books, and a little horsie. Talk about overwhelming!

Daddy and I were wiped out and napped through most of the afternoon together. When we woke up, though... it was an evening of sheer Christmas lunacy. Lola, Olivia and I had so much fun and ate so much food and danced and twirled around and played and wrecked things and climbed on things and yelled and screamed and ran and partied ourselves out (literally, in Olivia's case). The dust has yet to settle, and it's been hours.

I don't know who's more exhausted - my little cousins and I, or our bewildered parents and grandparents.

Fat Little Potato

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning our hosts Eric and Elizabeth and Lola and Olivia treated me to a huuuuuge breakfast of waffles and cereal and fruit. I ate enough for ten people! We played around in the playroom, where it became obvious to everyone that I am NOT used to sharing toys with other kids yet. I did a lot of joyous screaming.

Lunch at Uncle Ed and Aunt Diane's - I tried a lot of new foods, like smoked salmon. Not a winner, let me tell you. Went for a lengthy walk outside with Mommy and Daddy and Basil and Grandpa after a short nap. The string connecting my mittens gave me a lot of grief.

At dinner, I ate enough Tourtiere, soup, and fruit salad to feed a Quebecois Army. Everyone sat there staring at me while I wolfed down all the food. Afterwards, I looked like a fat little potato teetering on spindly stick-legs. Phew!

So Many Toys!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Once we started packing like mad this morning, I knew something was up. We drove and drove and drove for almost five hours, all the way to Montreal! I was extremely well behaved on the ride, and only slept for an hour of it. Once we arrived, I was shockd to find... Gamma and Grandpa?! We drove all the way just to see THEM? Good thing Daddy's Uncle Ed, Aunt Diane, Cousins Eric, Elizabeth, Lola, Olivia, and Daddy's Grannie ('GG') were there too, or I'd have felt pretty ripped off.

There were so many toys for me to play with... I didn't know where to start or where to end! Olivia and Lola have so much fun stuff! Animals, markers, balls, musical instruments, slides, ball-houses... wow, what a blast! We can come to Montreal ANY time. Just don't expect me to sleep in my travel-bed or anything.

A Day at the Office

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning was quite a treat - I got to come into work with Daddy! We had a great time... everyone thought I was cute and sweet, especially all the ladies (once again, Daddy learns that I'm a real 'chick magnet'). I was playin' at bein' shy and stuff at first, but before long I was running all over the place, exploring offices, stealing cookies, and playing with some of the other visiting kids. Once lunch time rolled around, Gamma and Grandpa showed up to take me home.

After Daddy came home, we did some quick grocery shopping and I did a lot of drawing before a nice Thai dinner with Gamma, Grandpa, and Anisa. We all pigged out so much that we got really sleepy... except for me.

Anyway, we're off on our Christmas vacation for the next few days... if Daddy can manage, we'll try to update the blog as usual. If not, we'll get all retroactive and stuff.

Gamma, Finally

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy was busy with a lot of baking today, so I happily entertained myself! I did a lot of drawing, helped do the dishes, read some books and watched some television, and sang a lot of songs. I watched last year's Christmas DVD - my favourite scenes were the ones with Daddy and Basil. As soon as he'd appear on-screen, I'd get really excited and then go give him a hug.

Went to visit Gamma and Grandpa and Anisa several times today, and was extremely goofy and wacky for everyone. I elicited quite the response, what with all my babbling, my scurrying, and wearing miscellaneous objects on my head.

And we're happy to announce that even though it's taken just over seventeen months, I've FINALLY started addressing Gamma, Grandpa, and Anisa verbally, by name: "Damma", "Dampa", and "Nee Nee" (which is also what I call zucchini).

The Towel Incident

[As transcribed by Daddy]

To be nice, I brought Mommy the towel we use to clean the mud off of Basil's paws when he comes in from outside. Mommy thanked me, and then asked me to put it back. This was the worst thing she could have said - I FLIPPED OUT. I stomped over to the bed, slammed my face on the mattress, and screamed into it. When I felt better I went back to Mommy... who had the nerve to ask me to put the towel back again! Ergo freakout #2. This went on for several more minutes. All in all, I think I threw four or five separate tantrums.

After a quick grocery run this morning and some delicious lentil soup for lunch, I had a late nap, and to get revenge for the whole towel incident, I undid all of the housework she had done while I napped in about thirty seconds. Serves her right!

Daddy drove Mommy and I to the butcher's for some more groceries, and I learned how to say "Meat! Meat! Meat!"

Seventeen Months (and one day) Old!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It was a pretty quiet day today - I named my stuffed froggie 'Franklin,' and have added it to my latest cache of new words - 'breakfast', 'salad', 'berries', 'pig', 'Grandpa', 'Gamma' (about time!!), 'happy', 'yellow', 'green', 'blue', 'bear', 'doctor', 'egg', 'bunny', 'ham', etc. etc. Mommy and I played, read some books, and we did some drawing. I ate several man-sized meals. You know the drill.

Daddy came home from work early because (a) he was tired and exhausted from staying up late working on work stuff and (b) because he needed to change into a suit for his company Christmas party. We played together - loads of fun! When he headed out again, I went from being a sweet little angel to a mean and cranky tyrant. How dare he?! Poor Mommy has to deal with me while he's out getting his handwriting analyzed (sounds like a great party).

Missing Daddy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was in a pretty awful mood as soon as Daddy left for work. I was really hoping we'd get to hang out more. It seems to be a recurring thing... after the weekend, I really lose my temper once Daddy heads back to the office. In any case, it's interesting to watch the effect my crankiness has on Mommy over the course of the day. I swear, sometimes that women deserves a medal.

Mommy had to do some re-construction work on Gamma's smoking lounge, so in the meantime, I hung out with Grandpa. We had a pretty good time, I guess, but I never really became out-and-out happy until Daddy came home from work at the end of the day. Even a two-hour nap (with Mommy) didn't do the trick.

I named my duck 'Mary' today. If anyone knows why, please let us know! Ditto if you're the person who taught me the word 'nasty.'

And on that farm, he had a horse

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Had something of a quiet morning - hung out with my grandparents, did some drawing (see photo). The usual, I guess. After lunch, seeing as how the weather was bizarrely warm, Mommy and Daddy and Basil and I drove out to Hockley Valley to do some last-minute Christmas hiking!

We had one heck of a great trek. I walked and walked all by myself for at least 30 minutes. The rest of the time was spent in the carrier on Daddy's chest... I made him sing the Batman theme song and "Old MacDonald" over and over and over again - and I made sure that on Old MacDonald's farm it was always a horse, with a neigh-neigh here and there (everywhere, in fact).

After a good two hours in the woods, we headed home. Basil and my parents were exhausted! Before dinner, we managed to squeeze in a quick jaunt to Old Navy so that I could get me a pair 'o slippers.

Abbatoir Rodentia

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning, we all woke up to the smell of burning fur. Turns out that two little bitty members of Mr. Shuffles' family (cousins?) got trapped in the furnace's electro-static filter and were electrocuted in the night. Our home sure has become a Mouse Charnel House.

We did some grocery shopping pretty early today, and when we came home we had lunch and naps (Daddy's was probably twice as long as mine). Afterwards, we drove over to The MacDermott's house for a quiet little Christmas party. I must've scared everyone off, because before long, we were the only ones still there. I played with Corrin and her toys (while Daddy and Jason played with their toys). We all had a blast!

After a quick stop at the Johnson's Christmas Party (where I scribbled on the floor), it was time for dinner, a tub, and bed!

Treasure

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was in an extremely sweet mood today, and only wavered when I thought Mommy was watching too much television, and when Mommy was adding some finishing touches to the new paint-job in my room. I especially had fun while drawing with Mommy and Gamma. Making pictures is fun - and so is singing songs! In fact, one of my favourite songs to sing is the song about treasure from my little Backyardigans radio.

I got a nice Christmas card in the mail from Nana today, Daddy got his annual music compilation from the manufacturer (with his new tattoo - the one I call 'baby' - on the cover), and I named the teddy bear Naisa knit for me months back "Dop-Kee" (which is my word for 'Cookie').

Rodents of Unusual Size

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It looks like Mr. Shuffles has a bigger family than we realized. A MUCH bigger family. Last night we discovered a mouse trap had gone missing, some mouse 'debris', and... uh... the 'scene of a crime.' Somewhere in the house is Mr. Shuffles' bigger, larger, more indestructable sibling with a mouse trap clamped to his broken body - and he's probably going to start decaying any minute now. The realization of this gave Mommy nightmares about Rodents of Unusual Size last night. Poor Daddy, on the other hand, was the one who had to get down on his hands and knees in mouse gore and try to find Shuffles' nest. Now the apartment smells like industrial-strength vermin remover.

Aside from THAT lovely tale, today was a first for both Mommy and I. At some point this afternoon, I sneezed - right up Mommy's nose. Very weird. If she wasn't busy being shocked about how tall I've gotten in the past few months, she'd be a little bit grossed out.

The End of the World

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Remember how yesterday it seemed like I was gonna be a cranky kid all day, and then I turned out sweet? Well, it looks as though I was saving all the crankiness for today - who knows why.

I'd be set off by the slightest thing today. Any time I didn't get my way, anytime the dog bothered me, anything that I didn't like regardless of significance - it made me freak out. I have yet to develop an emotional barometer... to me, everything bad amounts to the end of the world.

Mommy re-decorated my bedroom today, with some cute wall hangings and pieces of art - not to mention a new coat of paint! Pretty awesome! It looks really cute. I was happy to show Daddy when he came home from work, before I fell asleep in his arms again.

Complaint Email

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning, before Daddy left for work, it looked as though I was going to be in the worst mood imaginable. Daddy almost didn't come in to the office, because he was so worried about me running Mommy ragged. Of course, as soon as he left, I became the sweetest thing ever.

Mommy loaded me into the carrier (I fell asleep) and took me to Old Navy, so that we could buy ourselves a gift card. Then we did some shopping at a few other places (for Daddy and stuff) and came home. Mommy tried to use the gift card to buy me some online cute bunny slippers she's had her eye on, but apparently they were sold out.

Of course, the slippers were sold out - but the only way to find out was to register online with the gift card (after having bought it) first. Mommy was so mad she wrote Old Navy an email. Hopefully, we get free stuff. If not, Daddy gets an Old Navy gift card for Christmas, too!

Hiking for Envelopes

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning Mommy and I went for a hike to the art store to buy some special envelopes - in order to mail out our Christmas cards. The art store was selling them at a ridiculous price, so we walked to the pharmacy and bought a box of atrocious Christmas cards, just so we could get the accompanying envelopes for cheap.

Later in the afternoon, Mommy and I laid down for a nap, which totally got out of hand - we woke up something like two and a half hours later! I stayed groggy and stumbly for the rest of the day.

Daddy doesn't get it. When he reads books to me, he does funny voices and accents, emotes like crazy, and really puts on a big production. Mommy reads them as-is. For some reason, I prefer Mommy's recitation.

The Zoo in December

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Well, we're all very happy to note that Gamma has yet to catch the strain of stomach flu that's been making its way through the family. There's still tomorrow, though...

This morning, after a fancy pancake breakfast (my appetite still hasn't fully returned, it seems) Mommy and Daddy and Basil and I went for a nice winter walk through the neighbourhood. It was chilly out, but it warmed up as we went along. By the time we got back, we were ready for more more more! I fell asleep dancing with Daddy again... ...and after my nap, we loaded into the car and went to the zoo!

Going to the zoo in December (especially when it's not too cold out) is a GREAT idea, folks. Free parking, no crowds, and lots of space for me to run around in! I guess I enjoyed seeing the monkeys, seals, bears, and snakes - but mostly, I had a blast scurrying around. I got a bit tired and cranky towards the end, there, but whatever.

Vomiting V (The Grandpa Edition)

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Yep, so... last night, Grandpa became the next person to catch my stomach flu. He was kept up half the night with the illness, but it seems to be over and done with already. Thank heavens! Gamma's bracing herself for the worst.

This morning, Mommy and Daddy took me grocery shopping. We had a pretty nice time, and then we came home and I fell asleep in Daddy's arms as we danced together. It was extremely special, and reminded him of the times he used to sing me to sleep every night.

After my little nap, Mommy and Daddy drove me out to the cute little town of Elora. We did some Christmas shopping, walked around a bit, and then headed home along highway 7. It was a lovely little drive, and it only took about twenty gallons of coffee to keep Daddy awake.

Vomiting IV (The Anisa Edition)

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I'm almost completely over the stomach flu - Mommy and Daddy are both still slightly afflicted (Daddy felt well enough to go back to work today), and now Anisa upstairs has come down with the illness. It's made her incredibly miserable.

Aside from a few unpleasant diapers, things are back to normal for me. My appetite has returned, and I'm a bit less grumpy. I wanted to watch a lot of television, though, and it was pretty darned cold in our apartment. I learned how to 'bounce' (which Gamma and Grandpa taught me), I drew a lot of pictures, and I did the 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' dance.

Mommy put my hair in pigtails for when Daddy came home from work. He thought I looked so adorable - like a real little girl!

Vomiting III (The Daddy Edition)

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Yeah, we're all sick now. I'm still all gassy and not hungry and kinda grumpy and out-of-sorts. Mommy was so sick and tired that she needed to sleep for a big chunk of the day - so Daddy took the day off of work to look after Mommy & I.

We had a pretty good time today, I guess - I think he appreciates what a day alone with me is like for Mommy a bit better now (It's a lot of following me around and picking me up). He forgot to eat lunch, though, so by the time the two of us went to the grocery store at around 3 in the afternoon, he was showing signs of illness, too.

So, at around five it was his turn to be all sicky and feverish and burpy while Mommy and I looked after him. We are one sad, sorry bunch.

Oh, and the new issue of Photo Marketing Magazine came out - and there's an article all about me in there (see the above clipping)! Isn't that cool?

Vomiting II (The Mommy Edition)

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I woke up really early this morning (no vomit this time, thank goodness) so I got to sneak into bed with Mommy and Daddy. That was nice. Things got interesting around lunchtime, when Mommy went over to start some repair work on Gamma's smoking lounge and accidentally stabbed herself in the hand with a screwdriver. When I went down for my nap, Mommy started to feel ill... she was worried it was tetanus or something.

After I got up from my nap, it turned out that Mommy didn't have tetanus - she caught the stomach bug I had the other day. While she hid in the bathroom and vomited, I stayed with Gamma and Grandpa.

When Daddy came home from work, Mommy was still sick, so the two of us tidied up the apartment, did the dishes together, got me ready for bed, made me dinner - and you know, I have to admit... it wasn't bad!

Vomiting.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Last night was rough. I woke up at about two in the morning, vomited all over myself, screamed for a minute or two, and went back to sleep. I woke up again - vomiting - at five. Mommy and Daddy got up and helped me out, and we all tried to sleep between vomit sessions (on Mommy) and comforting a sick baby.

I was finally able to keep food down after breakfast - Mommy and I took it easy (I was a bit subdued), aside from a frantic insistence on my part to go outside and explore the snow, which really excites me. Mommy and I had a really long nap together, and when she tried to make dinner, I turned into a little troll.

Daddy came home from work, and we played and snoozed.

Crayons Are Not Food

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I'm not allowed to use my crayons anymore, or at least until I learn that they're not food. So sayeth Mommy! To get back at her, I freaked out when she repaired the book I tore pages out of.

I had three major diaper changes today. I fought the first two tooth and nail... the third I flopped down and stuck my butt in the air for her. Speaking of diapers, I should probably mention - I've gotten extremely good at removing them all by myself. In fact, if I'm asked, I can take my diaper off and then clean myself with baby wipes (kinda) all on my own. Mommy and Daddy may as well move out - they're pretty redundant now.

Other than that, I played with my little toy train a lot.

The Family Mantra

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today started out as your typical lazy Sunday - Mommy and Daddy took turns sleeping in or napping while the other looked after the dog and I. After lunch I had a nap, same as usual, and then after I woke up it was time for Mommy and I to go for a visit with our old post-natal group, most of whom I haven't seen in months!

I was a bit cranky while I was there - one kid held me against the wall and kissed me, and another kid hit me in the eye and made me cry (which is ironic, considering how I plowed head-first into a coffee table and didn't complain). While Mommy was changing my diaper, I started asking for Basil and "Bye," so she took that to mean it was time to head home.

After we got home (I repeated what Daddy calls 'The Family Mantra' - "Mommy Daddy Ah-Hoo Baby Mommy Daddy Ah-Hoo Baby") and had dinner, everyone (including Grandpa and Gamma and Anisa) tried to pin me down for a Christmas Card photo. I wasn't havin' none of that, though!

First Snow

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Woke up this morning to discover it snowed in the night! Mommy dressed me up in my pink coat and sent me out to explore. I imemdiately seemed to know what was up - I pointed at the white stuff and called it "No!" So, maybe I remember it from last year or something.

We went to the butcher's this morning (Daddy got a parking ticket) and then Mommy and Daddy left me with Gamma and Grandpa while they went off who knows where for the afternoon. While they were gone, I had a really short nap, played with everyone, and showed my grandparents all my favourite television shows.

Mommy came home first, followed by Daddy a few hours later. Because of my (lack of) nap, I was a little bit wired for the rest of the evening. I demanded a bathtub before bed - and I got my way.

The Adventures of Clover and Daddy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning Daddy (who took the day off of work) wrestled with fixing the computer, so Mommy and I hung out and did whatever we normally do in the morning. After lunch and a nap, Mommy had a Doctor's appointment, so Daddy and I drove her to the subway and then had about an hour and a half to ourselves. We played, drew some pictures, listened to some music... you know, regular Daddy-Daughter stuff. We don't get much alone time, so it was kinda special.

We picked Mommy up from the subway, and then went to the bookstore to so some Christmas shopping for my cousins. The clerks there thought I was adorable. After a quick visit to the new Best Buy that just opened (where they actually had Playstation 3s for sale!) we went to Boston Pizza for dinner. The service kinda sucked though, and the food made me throw up. I wasn't exactly the most well-behaved patron, either.

After that, we did some grocery shopping, headed home, and it was time for me to go to bed. Hopefully, the crazy thunderstorm outside doesn't wake me up!

Dock-Ees

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was such a sweetheart today. Cuddly, cute, and extremely affectionate. There were times when I wasn't exactly smiles and sunshine - like, for example, when Mommy was trying to tidy the apartment. But rest assured, I always went back to being a perfect little angel. I was so agreeable, Mommy gave me a haircut, and I didn't complain!

I picked out my own clothes this morning. I chose tights, two different leg warmers, and socks that didn't match... no shirt. Mommy obliged, and I was as pleased as punch to run around in bizarre clothes from the waist-down only.

Mommy and I went outside for a bit today, to enjoy the warm weather, but it was wet and rainy, so we came back in, and Mommy made me cookies, which I had been asking for ("Dock-Ees") all day long.

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
