All Up in my Grill

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Had a quiet day today. When Daddy came home from work, we went out to dinner... I was doing quite well (Mommy and Daddy even felt confident enough to order an appetizer) until one of the waitresses asked to carry me, so that Mommy and Daddy could eat without having to carry me in the snuggly. So get this - Mommy and Daddy actually let some strange lady carry me around and show me off! Strangers kept getting all up in my face, telling me how cute I am, and making silly faces at me.

Of course I freaked out! Wouldn't you?!

Horrifying!

I Hate Mondays

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I always seem to be pretty grumpy on Mondays. Mommy thinks that it has something do do with the fact that I hang out with Daddy all weekend, and then I miss him when he goes back to work. Once he shows up again, I'm happier.

I'm getting much better at grabbing onto things and then getting them into my mouth without letting go. In fact, sometimes, when something I'm clutching (like, say, Mommy or Daddy's hair) is taken away from me, I get all angried.

Jolly Jumper!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and Daddy and I drove out to the mall to do some shopping. It was crazy! So many people! We bought a Jolly Jumper and car seat liner for myself, a potty for some other baby (apparently we're going to a shower in a few weeks [Sorry to spoil the surprise, Jason & Arlynn, if you're reading this]), and some books at the bookstore...

...where I saw a magazine cover that totally made me take notice and start cooing, gurgling, kicking, and giggling.

We came home and I got in the Jolly Jumper (some slight carpentry required)... Basil's a bit weirded out by it, but I absolutely love it!

Blarggling

[As transcribed by Daddy]

American Thanksgiving was a few days ago, so today Mommy decided to cook a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It took all day long - she got pretty wiped out. In the meantime, Daddy helped out by carrying me in the Bjorn all day long - he got pretty wiped out. Anyway, it was cool to have Gammy and Grandpa and Anisa over for supper.

Before we went out for a long drive at night (Mommy and Daddy REALLY needed to get out of the house), I got naked and played on the bed. I tried to eat my feet... to no avail. I learned how to gargle my own blargg - Mommy calls it 'Blargling'.

Saturday, November 26, 2005

Yes, I am cute.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was a relatively decent and snoozy day - once Daddy came home from work, we all (meaning me, Mommy, Daddy, Gamma, Grandpa, and Anisa) went to have dinner with a very nice lady and her family. Everyone lavished attention upon me and was reminded of how darned cute I am. I even rewarded their affections with some face-crawling.

Now, if you'll excuse me - I have a lot more sleeping to do.

Great Expectorations

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I drooled. When I wasn't drooling, I was slobbering, and when I was slobbering, I was dribbling.

Mommy wants to make sure that I clarify yesterday's blog entry - I wasn't asleep on the kitchen floor per se... rather, I was sitting in my little rocking chair, which was itself placed on the kitchen floor.

For the second night in a row, Daddy and I danced and sang to music videos. It's a nice way to fall asleep.

The Green Bean Scene

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I went grocery shopping with Mommy, Gammy, and Grandpa. I wasn't having the best time, and I didn't get a green bean to munch on until AFTER we got back.

When Daddy came home from work, he was surpised to find me asleep on the kitchen floor. I was comfy, and Mommy didn't want to move me, so... there I stayed.

Basil and I have really started to notice each other. I keep staring at him or grabbing at his eyes, and he keeps trying to kiss me whenever he gets a chance.

Cribs are cool.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I just hung out and played in my crib for almost an entire hour, without complaining. Meanwhile, Mommy completely re-arranged the bedroom. I think I like it better, now.

After Daddy came home, we went to Ikea... it was insanely cold outside! I hope it goes back to being warm, like it was when I was born.

Daddy made up a song for me, and Mommy wrote it down:

Someone's Really Cute (sung to the tune of The 12 Days of Christmas')

Right now in [The Living Room/Upstairs/New Hampshire/Connecticut/Virginia/South Carolina], someone's really cute:

1. Mommy at the computer screen
2. Basil in his chair
3. Clover in the Bjorn
4. Grandpa has no hair
5. Gamma with a smoke
6. Anisa's on the phone
7. Nana wears a wig
8. Jim playing poker
9. Gareth's really cool
10. Papa's in a swamp
11. Trina has 2 jobs
12. Zoe eats a snack
13. Daddy forgot himself

Needles and Babysitters

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Grandpa drove Mommy and I to the Doctor's office. You know, I'm starting to catch on... it seems like every time I go there, I get stabbed in the thigh-chubb with a needle. Am I the only one who thinks I'm getting a crappy deal here? I screamed all the way home in the car.

After Daddy came home, his friend Nick came over for quick dinner and then they left with Mommy to go see a movie. In the meantime, I hung out with Gamma, Grandpa, and Anisa. I managed to have a nap, and later just kinda hung out with all of them, watching some television.

When Mommy and Daddy came home, we had some fun squeaking and croaking and wiggling and laughing. I dunno what the big deal is, but every time I make that 'creaky' sound at the back of my throat, Daddy is in hysterics.

Get Back

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy and Daddy and I went for a nice leisurely drive... first to some more bookstores, and then, quite randomly, to Snowball. On the way, I practiced making faces at myself in my travel mirror.

After dinner and our usual evening jaunt for coffee, Daddy (whose back I am slowly breaking, due to my increasing girth) sang me to sleep. I also discovered a new tune I like to dance to.

In the meantime, I've been practicing my new sounds - I'm really good at "Bbbbb."

Let's all smear drool on our faces.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy and I slept in a bit today... later on, we went to some bookstores and stuff (but I slept through all of that). Mommy bought me a hat and some mittens at the Gap.

Once we got home and had dinner, I decided I wasn't going to be a happy camper. I freaked out a heck of a lot - if you look at the size of my growing tummy, it may simply be that my 'tank' is a lot bigger, and it needs to be fuelled more than we're all used to.

Four Months Old!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Yep - today I'm fourth months old. As per my blog tradition, click here for an audio greeting - in it, you can hear more of the squeaking and creaking I've been experimenting with. And some fussing.

Today was a big day:

1. First snow! Weird!
2. Really cold outside.
3. Mommy and I had a get-together with our friends from post-natal class. I slept.
4. Gamma's friends Norma and Cindy visited - Norma gave me a teddy bear.
5. Went grocery shopping with Mommy and Daddy... they gave me a green bean to suck on in the cart. I hated the way it tasted, but loved munching it.
6. I tried sparking conversation with Basil today, but he refused to talk back to me. I don't know what his problem is, or why he's giving me the cold shoulder. He just looks at me.

Squeak! - Day 2

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today is the second day of experimental squeaks and squawks. I threw in a few bubble-blowing raspberries (Mommy is thrilled about that - she's been trying to get me to do that for months) and lots of drool... a very productive day for me. I even tired springing a few spontaneous freakouts for no apparent reason to test Mommy periodically.

I got some toys in the mail today. They're cool - lots to see and do... but then again, I tend to get a little bit over-stimulated by all this stuff sometimes.

Squeak!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was super-clingy with Mommy today. Even when I napped, I was napping on Mommy. All day she waited and waited for Daddy to come home, so that she could have a whole five minutes to herself. I think she probably just wanted to go to the bathroom.

I had another conversation with Daddy in the evening, where we'd make squeaky noises back-and-forth at each other - I've been experimenting with the kinds of sounds I can make. So far I can cry, laugh, coo, sigh, yawn, scream, burp, sneeze, howl, grunt, and now I do this thing where I make this crazy growl in the back of my throat that's REALLY LOUD and squeaky.

Daddy thought it was so funny when he heard it, he leaned over me, smiling - I grabbed the hair on either side of his head, and kneed him in the face.

Hah!

Adding commentary

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Roger and Wendy Nixon were supposed to go home today, but due to freezing rain and bad weather, they stuck around for another day, which made me very happy. We all watched a TV show together, and I chatted them up all the way through it, adding my insights into what we saw.

Daddy came home from work, but then went out to a movie. Mommy and I held down the place by ourselves, in the meantime. I was really happy to see him once he got home, although I wasn't in the mood to be carried around much.

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

Yay! The Nixons are... are... b... ba.. back... zzzzzzzz

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was one heck of a snoozy day. I was pretty groggy - as such, I wasn't really able to be my usual chipper self when Roger and Wendy Nixon showed up here for another visit.

I don't have actual verbal names for them yet - in fact, so far the only names I speak aloud are 'Mommy', which sounds like a two-syllable "Aa-Aaaa", and 'Daddy' which comes out as "Weh".

First Crawl

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Last night was tough on Mommy and Daddy. I didn't want to sleep in my crib, but they were insistent on me staying there. I won out in the end, and left them both thoroughly exhausted. They had to play musical beds all night long.

Today, there were many naps had by all. Later in the day, I had a 'chat' with Daddy - he would squeak at me, and then I would squeal or gurgle at him, call-and-response style. Mommy and Daddy think I may have been trying to specifically squeak like him. Either way, it was funny.

Finally, before bed, I crawled for pretty much the first time - towards Mommy, for a distance of about a foot. Daddy was quick to grab the camera! I'm not so good with propelling using my arms - my forehead does the trick.

Hiking Again

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, Mommy and Daddy and Basil and I went for another hike through the York Regional Forest. It was fun, despite being kinda chilly.

I had a bath when we got home, and when it was time for bed, I was too interested in being cranky to sleep. Daddy had to trick me into slumber by singing to me again. Gah! Works every time! Him and that stupid lullabye...

...in other news, Daddy has finally uploaded ALL of our October Vacation photos onto flickr now. Check them out - there are TONS of great photos that you never saw here on the blog.

The Blood Man

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, Mommy and I were supposed to go hang out with all of our new friends from our Post-Natal class, but Mommy forgot. I tried to remind her, but she misinterpreted my grunts and whines as complaints about being wet. Daddy came home from work early (he was really tired - he's been playing Post-It Tag at work for the past three weeks - he won!), and we all had a looooong nap.

A nice man working on behalf of the insurance company woke us all up so that he could take various fluid samples from Mommy and Daddy. He left Mommy's arm all blue and puffy, and despite smacking the heck out of Daddy's arm, couldn't manage to take any blood from him. I guess Daddy is empty.

Let's guilt Mommy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I must've really ticked Daddy off by not sleeping last night... I didn't see him all day (Mommy says he went to a concert). My late-night shenanigans backfired on me today - I kept falling asleep, left, right, and centre.

At one point, I was alone in my crib crying, and Mommy tried to let me 'cry it out' - right when she came to check on me (I was aaaalllmost asleep) my body was still shuddering and I was smothered in my own tears. She took one look at me, felt incredibly guilty, and started crying. Then I saw her, and I started crying. So we cried together, mother and daughter.

Basil thinks we're out of our minds.

Burnin' the candle

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I didn't nap much during the day, so you'd think I'd be plenty tired for snoozing this evening, right? Wrong! Suckers!

I was never this hard to get to sleep when I was under three months ond. The joke's on my folks - they thought they had such an easy-to-snooze newborn. Little did they know what I had in store for them...

Daddy is writing this in a slightly grumpy state. He didn't get a nap today, has a big day of work ahead of him tomorrow and then a three-band, four-hour concert immediately following - and both Basil and I keep repeatedly waking up to either be walked around and sung to or taken outside for a quick pee and cookies (I'll let YOU guess who wants what).

Ha ha ha, I rule the roost! My sleep-deprived parents are but mere puppets to my every whim!

Boxes

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, Mommy's new dishes arrived in the mail. They're very pretty, but now our living room is full of hundreds and millions of cardboard boxes. I even got inside some of them. When Daddy came home, we went to the mall so that he could get a Bubble Tea (I think he has some sort of chemical dependency on tapioca), but I don't like the mall so much - the individual stores are fine, but not the 'mall' part. Something about the ambiance.

Gammy came down and watched television with us... she makes me laugh all the time. Later, I was a bit fussy about going to bed, but Mommy and Daddy tricked me into my crib with silly lullabies... darn it!

Sleepy eyes

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I slept a lot today. Dunno why... just didn't feel like running that marathon or studying for my exams. My folks apparently took me to Ikea, but I slept through the whole thing (so I'll have to take their word on it).

Something new I've discovered - when I'm tired, if I rub my eyes (especially if I rub them a lot) I see both funny colours AND my parents are quick to respond to my tiredness by picking me up, etc.

What a scam! I rock!

Portrait

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Grandpa took several portrait-style photographs of myself (co-starring Mommy, Daddy, and sometimes Basil), but had a difficult time getting the dog & I to actually look at the camera.

Mommy and Daddy took me out to buy braces for our shelving - you see, our floors aren't really level, and as such our shelves don't lean perfectly against the walls. They're afraid that once I start walking, I'll grab and wobble Daddy's CD towers or a bookshelf and crush myself.

I didn't wanna go to bed tonight, either. After all that 'crushing' discussion, how could I?!

Vomit and Ice Cream

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today we went to the bookstore, came home, and hung out - Daddy was dangling me above him airplane-style, and then I threw up onto his face. For some reason, he couldn't stop laughing, despite being thoroughly grossed out.

After dinner, we went out for ice cream - Mommy gave me a teeny tiny little bit to taste, and then I wouldn't stop fussing until I got more. *Sigh*... less than four months old, and already an addict.

And on this farm he had a... uh... ...paramecium

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was in a great mood all day... Mommy and I went for a really long walk in the afternoon. Daddy was late coming home from work, but once he did - boy, was I ever glad to see him!

After a nice chat with my grandparents, parents, and Anisa, I fell asleep in my carrier again. After a trip out for coffee, Mommy fell asleep (some coffee) - it was Daddy's turn to somehow get me to snooze in the crib. He sang 'Old MacDonald Had A Farm' for about an hour - and ran out of farm animals to sing about, so he invented a bunch. It worked! He's very proud of himself.

Happy and then Not Happy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I was in a much better mood than I was in yesterday. Much, much better. Smiley, giggly, cuddly, and just generally pleasant - my usual self!

...and then we went grocery shopping late in the evening, and I got bored - and when I get bored I can get really darned mad. Like, fuming mad. If I could throw stuff, I would. THAT mad. Mommy had to walk me around outside and freeze me to sleep.

Bad Days and Cool Uncles

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was in a crap mood all day long, which was unfortunate because today I got to meet my "Cool Uncle Gareth" for the second time, since he's in town for his girlfriend's gallery opening. He has yet to meet me while I've been my usual happy self. Maybe next time... we'll see.

Mommy and Daddy had a visit with the Insurance Guy and took out policies and stuff and did some general financial planning. Whoop-de-doo.

Things I Like / Dislike

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I was cranky. We went to the mall, where I became fascinated by Daddy's green bubble tea. Basil made me laugh.

Here is a list of some things that I like:

1. Pulling Mommy or Daddy's hair
2. Feeling Mommy or Daddy's hair on my tummy
3. Standing up (with help)
4. Kicking in the bathtub
5. Funny faces
6. When people play with my feet
7. Being naked!

...and here is a list of some things that I don't like:

1. Getting dressed
2. The nasal aspirator
3. Strong cooking smells
4. Being still
5. Sherbrooke, Quebec
6. Car seat straps
7. Things that won't fit in my mouth.

Trick or treat!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I was occasionally cranky, and frequently naked. I can add a new experience to my growing list of discoveries - tasting something gross. In this particular case, it was grape Anbesol.

When Daddy came home from work, I put on the nice flower costume Mommy made for me, and we knocked on neighbours' doors. Everyone seemed very happy to see me... they all said I look like Daddy, and they all gave me candy for some reason, which Daddy then ate pretty quickly once we got home.

What a weird evening.

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
