Papercut

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I gave my folks pretty specific instructions - I wanted to go out for Japanese food for lunch, and then I wanted to go for a walk in the city (and not a hike in the woods). After eventually getting Daddy out of bed, Mommy and I got him to drive us to the sushi restaurant, where we all enjoyed a lovely lunch.

We headed down to the beaches - I really wanted to walk along the boardwalk and skip stones and dig in the sand, but it was waaaay too chilly. We checked out a bookstore, but then I got a papercut and kinda made a bigger deal out of it than it was and asked to go home. So... we did.

Daddy and Grandpa went out to get a new camera in the afternoon (Merry Christmas, Daddy) - in the meantime, I drew some lovely Christmas cards. We all had a nice dinner, played some video games, and read books before bed!

Cash Cab

[As transcribed by Daddy]

My family and I had an important date today: An important date with the passport photographer! After eventually getting Daddy out of bed and having a nice morning (which included breakfast and lunch), we headed out to the mall and got said passport photos taken. Mine is cute - Daddy looks like Charles Manson in his.

We hit up Fabricland, Home Sense, Starbucks, and Best Buy on the way home - my mood was up and down, and Daddy (who is convinced they pumped coma-inducing vapours through the air conditioner at the mall) wasn't really having any of it.

We all came home and had a nice afternoon of NO TELEVISION. I watched Daddy play some video games, and played "Cash Cab" with him - where I'd sit in the laundry hamper, pretend it was a Taxi, ask him general knowledge questions, and award him money. Let's hope the actual episode of the real show he's on airs soon.

Mommy and Daddy went out to a benefit tonight, so Gammy and Grandpa put me to bed - without incident!

"Do-na-liar - Meee Meee Meee Meee"

[As transcribed by Daddy]

School today was pretty good... we had a supply teacher, so I missed Mrs. Bartlett, but we all got to do some drawing. While the other kids drew shapes, rainbows, or some scribbles, I drew a picture of my friend Renee wearing a bear costume standing next to a zombie who was getting a suntan. Everyone was impressed.

When I came home, I set up some complicated scenes and dioramas with my toys, and due to the fact that I stopped biting my fingernails, looked forward to going to the mall to get a Rudolph toy. Daddy came home from work, we had leftover turkey, and went to the mall - I excitedly sang misheard lyrics to a song I saw on the net (see today's blog title) while carrying my bubble tea through the mall, and spilled it all over the floor.

While the staff just stood around and stared, Daddy got down and spent a good 10 minutes frustratedly cleaning it up so that nobody slipped on it and broke their neck. Apparently the cleanup crew was on break, so... yeah. Daddy called the Hudson's Bay Company afterwards to point out the the staff might want to train to learn how to clean up spills during the busy holiday season.

But hey - I got my Rudolph toy!

American Thanksgiving

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I learned that if I exaggerate my cough to the point of practically hacking up a lung, people will bring me all manner of soothing beverage and give me lots of attention. I'm getting really good at it.

At school today, we drew pictures of firetrucks. Afterwards, I came home and pretended to be a princess while Mommy cooked up one heck of a great (American) Thanksgiving dinner. We joined Gammy and Grandpa and Nee-Nee and had a huge dinner.

Something Daddy didn't mention on the blog yesterday - I asked Mommy if she could put a small skating rink in the backyard so that I could practice my skating skills after it snows... because I'm ready to train for the Olympics. Actually, first I decided I wanted to be a snowboarder, but after Mommy told me what that was, I decided skating was less scary.

Cranberry Hunters

[As transcribed by Daddy]

So I coughed through the night again, but it really seemed to eventually wind down, and I was able o get a good night's sleep. I was well enough, in fact, to go back to school today. While I was there, I made a cat out of construction paper, and pretended to be a cat for a good chunk of the day.

At home, I did a lot of decorating - I made a bunch of crafts out of paper and foam and toys and stuff, and put them all over the place. 'Tis the season!

After dinner, Daddy took Mommy and I to the grocery store to pick up some much-needed supplies. I'm getting too big to sit in the cart, so I rode underneath or walked along with Daddy... he and I went on a cranberry hunt. On the way home, we scoped out the awesome Christmas lights.

Make 'Em Laugh

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Still sick. Didn't sleep well - Mommy had to join me in bed, but the sound of me coughing through the night (picked up and broadcast by the baby monitor) helped keep us ALL up. You'd think the interrupted sleep would make me a crankier kid, but it really wasn't so bad - my parents seemed more exhausted than I was.

Mommy and I played with some of my toy trains and stuff today, so that was kinda fun. At one point, I played one of my favourite online video games, but the site broke and the accidental repeating sound loop was driving Mommy crazy, so we had a bit of a spat over whether or not I'd be playing that game much more.

After Daddy got home from work, we had a nice dinner, and he and I had some fun watching some cool old-timey online videos... you know, clips from famous Technicolor musicals of the early 50s. Something every kid should do with their fathers, right?

"Sewage"

[As transcribed by Daddy]

My little cough has officially been declared persistent enough to prevent me from attending Kindergarten today, which is sad... but I stayed home with Mommy and had a pretty good day in any case. I was waaaay better mood-wise compared to yesterday - we did some crafts and took it pretty easy. Some more plumbers came over to inspect the new piping, and I absent-mindedly flushed the toilet right after being instructed not to (which is ironic, considering how often I forget when told the opposite). Ergo I was pretty embarassed and upset (but not because of the... er... sewage that erupted all over the laundry room as a result).

Daddy came home from work right around the time I'd normally be going to swimming class. After a delicious dinner, I made up a little ditty ("I am the greatest drawer, I am the greatest drawer, I am the greatest drawer - because my name is 'Clover Long').

Daddy took Mommy and I out to Shops At Don Mills to run some errands - we went to the bookstore, got some groceries, some coffee, and some cardboard boxes. We came home and I coughed myself to sleep.

Jackhammering

[As transcribed by Daddy]

What a day. I was coughing and sick all night, so Mommy and I probably only slept four a few hours all told. We were up early because the plumbers were over jackhammering the laundry room floor (to get all the tree roots out of the pipes) - I hid with Gammy and Grandpa and drew awesome pictures for most of the morning.

Daddy tried to take us to the mall in Markham for some stuff, but I could NOT be either polite or friendly to anyone, and so Mommy put her foot down and we went home. Hopefully I learned my lesson. Mommy had a long nap once we got back - I wasn't at all up for the same, so Daddy had to take me on some errands for work. I was pretty well behaved.

Daddy picked up some dinner, and afterwards I went to sleep pretty quickly. All said and done, it was a long, difficult day for everybody. Hopefully we all start feeling better tomorrow.

The Snuggle Zombie

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Ugg... my cold is getting bad. The good news is that Mommy got me some nice medicinal lollipops (Daddy wishes those existed when he was a kid), but the bad news is that I woke up at 5 a.m. and have been hoarse and keep coughing. I almost always cover my mouth, though.

Mommy and Daddy and I drove downtown to a cool restaurant and met a whole bunch of really awesome people at Jim's surprise birthday party! I sat with Kristin and Jim's family - Jim really loved the zombie doll Mommy and I made for him. He named it the 'snuggle zombie'. What a great time! I ate a lot of guacamole.

Next we drove aaalll the way to Markham, where we bought some Christmas/crafty stuff (Daddy needed some for a work project). We went to the bookstore, got some coffee, and headed home. I was a bit emotional and exhausted due to the busy day, but I DID get to have delicious gluten-free oatmeal for dinner. My parents were so full from lunch that they didn't bother with dinner, really.

Surprise Party Prep

[As transcribed by Daddy]

My folks are pretty proud - I slept in my bed all night long, and didn't come join them in their bed at any point. Not only that, but THEY woke up before ME! That never happens. Also, I'm very happy to have the computer back from the Apple store. Everything works great!

I had a nice morning with Mommy (I was sad to see Daddy go back to work after two days working from home), and then went to school, which was pretty awesome as usual. When I came home, I was pretty excited about going to Jim's surprise party tomorrow [hence this blog post is late... Daddy couldn't very well write about my day when it involved Jim's surprise party, and Jim reads this blog]. I drew an awesome picture of a zombie for him, and then Mommy took the drawing I made and SEWED the zombie as a little doll. I hope Jim loves it!

After Daddy came home from work, we all had a nice evening together. I have the beginnings of a cold (or at least a sniffle) so I'm a tad cranky. But nuthin' my folks can't deal with.

Teddy Bear Search

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Once again, Daddy was working from home - taking phone calls in his pajamas, designing websites in the living room, same as yesterday. I watched some TV and had a quiet morning, and then Mommy and Daddy drove to to school once I had eaten my lunch. It was pretty rainy.

My folks took advantage of the fact that they could go to lunch without me and had dim sum for the first time in over a year (since I can't have wheat). Mommy came to get me after school, and I made sure I splashed in every single puddle on the way home!

I had a nice afternoon - Daddy got it into his head that he wanted to show me his teddy bear from when he was my age. We tore the place upside-down and couldn't find it, but I did find a lot of my old toys, some of which I hope to give away charitably this holiday season.

"Plugging the Toilet"

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy worked from home today, which was kinda hard for me to handle... usually if Daddy's at home during the day it means it's the weekend, and he's more available to play. Instead, he kinda sat at his desk with his laptop and worked. Boo! Mommy kept me pretty entertained in the meantime.

I had a nice time at school - both my parents came to pick me up afterwards, just in time to watch me play we kids call "Plugging the Toilet" - one little girl slides down to the bottom of the playground slide and stays there, and then the rest of us just slide down behind her, causing a huge traffic jam. Funny stuff!

Mommy and Daddy took me out for a dairy-free hot chocolate, and then we came home... and Daddy worked some more. When it came time to go to bed, I made things pretty difficult. Because I could, darn it all!

Crying over Spilled Milk

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Well, another day goes by with no computer. Mommy's been using it as a real opportunity, mind you, to take advantage of that fact by spending more quality time with me - we did a lot of reading together and stuff.

School was nice today - Mommy wasn't able to pick me up afterwards, so she sent Grandpa in her place. He and I had a nice walk home, but he mentioned that he doesn't think fifteen seconds went by where I didn't blather on and on.

Mommy made a fancy spiced milk beverage for me when I got home... which she then clumsily spilled all over me! I started to cry and apologized for ruining all of her hard work. When she pointed out that it was HER that spilled the milk, I got really confused. Mommies make mistakes like that, too?

We changed the decor in the living room, and hung some awesome little twinkly lights in my bedroom. It looks awesome - hopefully now Cinnamon Bunny won't be so afraid of the dark.

Good thing I'm wearing pants.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy and I were walking to school - I felt a slight chill in the air, and remarked. "Brrr! It sure is cold. Thank goodness I'm wearing pants." Thank goodness indeed.

School was alright - Mommy met with Mrs. Bartlett afterwards, who told her that I'd report how another girl told me she didn't think my hat was very pretty. Sure enough, I told Mommy all about it - so I guess one could extrapolate that said girl and I had something of an emotional disagreement. We kids tend to take little things personally.

I had swimming class, and when I got home, I drew some nice pictures with Daddy before devouring an enormous bowl fancy sauerkraut soup for dinner (which I then claimed not to like).

Meeting Santa

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning we were up and at the mall as soon as it opened so that Daddy could take the iMac in to get repaired (luckily he has his laptop from work, hence he's actually posting to the blog). While we were at the mall we got a snack, some bubble tea, and a major first - I was actually brave enough to go and meet Santa at the mall! I sat on his lap, told him what I wanted for Christmas, told him I was a good girl, and got my photo taken and some candy! Special thanks to Aunt Trina, who did some extra convincing that I should talk to him.

After a brief trip to the bookstore (I finally got a copy of The Grinch), we headed home again and had a late lunch. Then it was out on the road again - we went to the badlands, took some photos for Daddy's annual CD cover, and then went for a quick hike along the Bruce trail, where I learned (somewhat incorrectly) how to be sarcastic. On the way home, I tried to tell Daddy how to drive, which drove everyone crazy.

I didn't wanna go to bed at the end of the day, which put off Mommy and Daddy watching tonight's new episode of Doctor Who.

Salad Request

[As transcribed by Daddy]

The first thing I did this morning was call Lisa on the phone and ask her to make a nice salad when she and Matt and Leo came over, and then I got my parents out of bed.

Mommy and Daddy and I lugged the iMac all the way to the Apple Store in the mall to get it fixed - but they were too busy, so we made an appointment to come back tomorrow. Before lugging the iMac back home, we had a lovely Thai lunch, and visited the butcher. I sang misheard verses of 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' on the way.

When we got home, we all went on a major cleaning offensive and tidied the heck out of the place. Daddy took off with Grandpa for a quick photo shoot, which annoyed me - I wanted to come too!

I was so happy when Lisa and Matt and Leo arrived. Leo and I played really well together, and the pizza Mommy made - and the salad Lisa made for me - were delicious!

ULOTUVAPLZ

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It's official - our computer has officially died. It seemed like it was fine all day - but then the second Daddy got home from work and started using it, everything up and died. Tomorrow we'll take it to the Mac store and see if we can have it resurrected… hopefully it won't cost an arm and a leg.

Daddy and his friends won a big award last night at the ADCCs - a silver for one of his Emerald City Comic Con spots. Exciting!

I had a P.A. day today, so I got to stay home and hang out. Mommy made a lot of applesauce to give as Christmas presents, and I made a cool label for them (All on my own, I spelled "A Lot of Applesauce" with the letters ULOTUVAPLZ). After Daddy came home from work, we threw a 'Pre-Christmas Baking Party', and invited Gammy and Grandpa over for cupcakes and cookies. I serenaded them with the chorus of 'Paradise City' which I spontaneously remembered, having heard it once in a video game two weeks ago.

The Kindergarten Ringmaster

[As transcribed by Daddy on November 13th]

More computer problems, and just when Daddy thought he had it all fixed. Ho hum.

Mommy noticed something while watching me play in the playground at school. I have a hard time playing like the other kids, who just kinda run around and aimlessly 'play' - I have to put together these complicated schemes of role-playing, scenarios, and instructions - and then I have to direct them myself like some sort of kindergarten ringmaster. Usually Cheyenne is the only sidekick I can get to go along… the other kids aren't always into my mad orchestrations, and I take it kinda personally.

When I came home from school today, Mommy helped me to sew my first ever craft - a little felt Christmas tree, which I would like to give to Santa Claus for Christmas.

After Daddy came home from work and joined us for dinner (and wrestled with the computer) he took Mommy and I to the grocery store. Fun times!

Christmas Makes Me Happy.

[As transcribed by Daddy on November 13th]

Sorry again about the delayed blog entry - we're having some serious computer problems at home. Daddy feel crippled by it, I feel devastated since I can't play my video games - meanwhile, Mommy has become super productive! She made me a pair of pants and all kinds of stuff.

Daddy spent the morning on a call with Apple support, and then had to go to Guelph (on his day off!) for a business meeting. While he was gone, I went to school and had yet another freakout when it came time to leave! Mommy's getting sick and tired of that.

After Daddy returned from Guelph, we all had a nice dinner and then went to Canadian Tire to get some craft supplies. We stopped at Bath & Body Works - the Christmas stuff made me soooo happy and pleasant and giddy… the peppermint-scented foaming soap is SO AWESOME! Christmas makes me happy, which in turn makes Mommy happy.

Tech Support!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Sorry about the delay in posting the blog - we here are having some serious computer issues. Actually, today Daddy was gonna stay home and work anyway, but he didn't end up doing much work - he just stayed on the phone with Apple Support. Dunno if anything is actually resolved.

After Daddy eventually left for work, Mommy took me to school, which was good. When she came to get me afterwards, I tried pulling the same shenanigans as yesterday and had a mini-tantrum about leaving the playground, but Mommy wasn't having that, and I stopped freaking out. She had a nap in the afternoon on the couch - I brought her some toys to snuggle with.

Daddy eventually returned from work and took us out for Greek food, which was good... we also went to Ikea to buy a new computer chair. Maybe THAT will fix the computer.

...18º C in November!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had a pretty good morning - the weather was really good AGAIN (it was even warmer today than it was yesterday!), so I sat outside and bid a fond adieu to Cool Uncle Gareth, who headed back to You Nork today. He was all "goodbye Clover," and I was, like "kay, bye" and he was all "Can I get a proper goodbye?!" and I was all "GOODbye."

I had a nice time at school today, and Mommy came to pick me up afterwards with Grandpa. I made a fuss over having to leave the playground, and Mommy wasn't gonna out up with any lip from me, so I pretty much cried all the way home (sorry, Grandpa) and for, like, 30 minutes after we got home. I got bored of being upset.

I had a good swimming lesson... Daddy had a tough time dealing with the subway system on the way home from work, so came home pretty exhausted from all the walking he did - which kinda screwed up our evening plans, but whatever.

15º C in November!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy and I were gonna go to the zoo with Lisa and Leo this morning, but since Mommy was feeling off yesterday (scuppering our hiking plans), we decided to stay with her today and do whatever she wanted to. So, after lunch, as soon as we were sure everyone was feeling well, we drove out to Milton for a nice hike along the Bruce.

The weather was pretty shocking - it was, like, fifteen degrees - in November! We didn't even need to wear coats! The trail we found was kinda mucky and stinky, but it was nice and rocky with lots of cool moss and stuff. I only had so much energy in me, though (thank goodness we didn't go to the zoo) and I started getting whiny and cranky after about only 30 minutes - making the remaining 60 kinda hard on my folks.

Once we got home, I watched some TV, played some video games, and then Cool Uncle Gareth joined us for a massive and delicious roast beef dinner! I'll miss him after he goes back to New York tomorrow.

Papier-mâché

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Fantastic weather today - the family and I made some big plans to go for a fantastic hike in the woods today, to get some fresh air, and to take in the last of the autumn colours and get exercise. Alas, Mommy's health did a serious nosedive after lunch - she felt to sick and dizzy to sit through a major car ride.

So... Daddy and I let Mommy hang out in the bedroom and have nap. The two of us played in my room, played some games, and we even got to sit in the kitchen and do some crafty stuff, making papier-mâché letters for his end-of-year CD. Pretty fun, but very messy.

I had my heart set on going out for dinner, so Daddy and I went out on a date to the sushi restaurant while Mommy recovered at home. The food was good - we drew pictures while we waited for it to arrive, and Daddy had to keep from laughing out loud at the lady next to us who was angry about not getting any fortune cookies after her meal. At a Japanese restaurant.

Safety Scissors!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was surprised to discover that Daddy was gonna work from home today - I'd rather he play with me and pay me lots of attention, but I was pretty good about letting him have the computer to work. I played in my room (making more dinosaur scenes and Playmobil towns and stuff), watched some TV, and tried to do as much snacking as Mommy would allow.

My parents walked me to school in the afternoon... it was pretty good! We got to all play Bingo before school was over, and I really enjoyed it, although one kid keps telling everyone she was the only winner. For some reason, this drove me nuts, and put me in a really bad mood - my folks picked me up afterwards and we ran some errands, and I whined the whole time.

Cool Uncle Gareth was over around dinner, and played hockey on the PlayStation while Mommy and Daddy and I did some crafts. Daddy even drew me some pictures so that I could cut them out using safety scissors.

Crystal Minding

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was munch nicer to Mommy today. In fact, the only time I was ever particularly upset was when Mommy and I walked to school. The temperature dropped quite suddenly, the wind started howling, and everything really started to get uncomfortable. I kinda started to cry, because I hated it so much - Mommy convinced me to continue the walk to school, but I needed a lot of hugs first.

I got my school photo today! It's pretty cool - I dunno if I can post it here, though, because there are all these other kids in it. Once I brought it home, Mommy and I played with a cool little 'crystal mining' kit that Kristen and Jim gave me - I called it "Crystal Minding'. Mommy made some cupcakes, which I frosted and sprinkled all by myself!

Mommy made a delicious dinner, and then Daddy and I played some video games together before I went to bed. Naisa called from Edmonton, and helped put me to bed (along with Mommy, Daddy, and Cool Uncle Gareth).

Triassic Explosion

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy told me that I'd only be allowed to watch television if I did some serious cleaning in my room, so... I went in there and just kinda played for a while. By the time I emerged, it looked like the Triassic Age exploded in me bedroom. There was more cleaning to be done.

After lunch, I went to school, and walked part of the way with my friend Omarion. After I got out of school, I was quite surprised to see Cool Uncle Gareth waiting for me! I was so happy I ran across the schoolyard and hugged him, making Mrs. Bartlett very happy. It was sweet.

I monopolized his time as much as possible in the afternoon... we played and hung out a lot, but eventually he got away and visited my Grandparents. After dinner, Daddy came home from work, and then he and Gareth and I played some video games. I had a bath, and was far too excited to go to sleep willingly.

Return of the Yam Guy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning I was so enthusiastic and excited about the bowl of cereal Mommy made for my breakfast - I thanked her profusely, leading her to believe that I'd be in a way better mood compared to yesterday. Alas, that wasn't the case.

Thins were good when we went to the farmer's market - the last local farmer's market of the year. The yam guy was back, so I got to have one of my customary 'yam guy' muffins and some cider. We bought veggies, came home, and after lunch I went to school. It was good - we went to the gym and to the library, both of which I really like.

Mommy and I had an okay afternoon, but I started getting rude and demanding with Mommy. We were gonna do a whole lot of cleaning (Cool Uncle Gareth is visiting tomorrow!), but my foul disposition put the kibosh on that. I even ended up going to bed kinda early.

Pink Batman: The Movie

Pink Batman Movie

Yeah, I forgot to mention that for some reason, I kept calling Kristin & Jim "Christian and James" yesterday. I was even gonna title the blog entry that yesterday!

This morning I woke up and watched the amazing 'Pink Batman' movie (which Ray made with us on Saturday) over and over and over again - check it out above. Anyway, I fought with Mommy a lot today - maybe it's all the excitement, maybe I'm tired, maybe it's the candy... but I was pretty difficult and cranky today.

Mrs. Macintosh (who has been away from school due to illness) walked part of the way home from school with Mommy & I - she had really nice things to say about me. I half-watched a movie before going to swimming class with Mommy in the afternoon.

I helped my folks with the grocery shopping after dinner, and then totally passed out at bedtime. Phew!

1... 2... 3... weee!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

The clocks changes today, which confused us all. I was careful not to gorge on Halloween candy, but I do like to just dump it out on the coffee table and look at it.

Mommy made an amazing batch of applesauce today, which was so good we decided to put it into jars - I made a label, and we took it downtown to Jim & Kristen, who invited us over to spend the afternoon.

Mommy and Daddy and Kristen and Jim (and Cinnamon Bunny) and I went to a cafe (with snotty employees) and had some coffee and tea, and then we checked out Honest Ed's, which was crazy and weird. We hit a comic book store, a movie store (where Daddy got yelled at for taking pictures), a record store, we bumped into my friend Ines at another cafe, and then went out for a delicious sushi dinner! Jim & Kristen - two of our most favourite people - were so fun and really awesome to hang out with. I got pretty amped and excited and noisy! The best part was how they swung me along the sidewalk as we walked, chanting "One, two, three... weeeee!" We took a ton of really great photos, too.

Once we got home, I dumped my candy out on the coffee table and just looked at it.

Pink Batman!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was the big day! As soon as Daddy was up, Mommy got in her 'Dorothy' costume, Annabell wore her pumpkin costume, and Cinnamon Bunny wore his ghost costume, and we drove down to Ray's apartment. I changed in his "dressing room" into my amazing Pink Batman costume (sans Batarangs) and we walked over to the nearby alleyway and has one heck of an awesome photo shoot. Ray filmed me running back-and-forth at his camera - can't wait to see the footage!

We all went for a delicious lunch (I had pancakes and edamame) and then we bid Ray adieu and ran several errands. Daddy officially became a creative director when he bought his first sports blazer, and then we bought some arts and crafts stuff up in Markham.

We had a quick dinner, finished off some jack o' lanterns, and then went out trick-or-treating! We ran into Cheyenne and her Daddy, and the bunch of us braved a very very cold and windy night (except Basil in his old 'Electro-Dog' costume) and hauled in lots of candy (about half of which I can have).

Man, was I ever exhausted when we got home. Everyone sure did seem to love my Pink Batman costume, though. Pretty awesome! Another great Halloween down - can't wait for the next one!
