Wake up, people!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was in a much better mood today (save for some periodic bouts of unhappiness here and there). Did some wiggling, some jumping, some eating.. nuthin' new.

Some mornings, if I wake up early enough, Mommy will bring me to bed with her and Daddy, and I'll lie between them and alternately smack them in the mouth or grab them by the sides of the head and yell "A MA MA MA MA MA MA" until they wake up and play with me. Sometimes, it's amazing what those two can sleep through.

Grumpy Button

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Early this morning Daddy accidentally clunked me in the head - he must have hit a heretofore hidden "grumpy button" somewhere because for the rest of the day, I was extremely grouchy. My naps were short, my temper was short, and the day was long.

I had a short sabbatical from my foul mood while talking to Nana over the webcam early in the evening... but once she was gone, it was back to being a whiny little dwarf.

I keep rolling over onto my front while I sleep. It's freaking my parents out.

January Hike

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It was such an uncharacteristically warm day today that Mommy and Daddy decided to take Basil and I on a nice walk around the neighbourhood and through the park. It was a lovely afternoon! Once we got home, we felt like we shouldn't stay indoors - so we took a nice drive out to Uxbridge and back. For dinner, I was introduced to zucchini.

I'm getting good at playing this silly game - when Mommy or Daddy smack a hard surface with the flat of their palms, I try also. It's a bit confusing, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Anyway, after I went to bed, Mommy and Daddy watched a pretty good movie. Hopefully, we get more great weather over the next few days.

Baby Party

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy and I had another get-together will those other kids from Mommy's post-natal classes. I'm proud to say that I'm easily the biggest of them all, and I'm the only one that can sit up. Also, all of the other Mommies were really impressed when I yelled "A MA MA MA MA MA MA MA MA MA" into the air.

Sometimes, when I don't say "A MA MA MA" I say "A BA BA BA BA". It's really quite adorable.

Sicky Daddy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I was in an awesome mood! Mommy and I had a great day, just kinda hanging out, reading books, playing, napping... you know the drill.

Around 5:00pm, Daddy called - apparently he ate too much bean dip at a company party and was feeling really strange and couldn't stand up properly, so Mommy and Grandpa and I went to his office and brought him home. Even though he felt really weird, he still made sure he had time to hang out and play with me before I went to bed. He always misses me during the day.

Kellie

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy & Daddy's friend Kellie came over. She was pretty cool... Basil was especially happy to see her. She played with me and stuff, and kept us all company. For some reason though, before Daddy came home, I got all grumpy an' stuff. Once I was put to bed, though, the grumpiness ceased.

...because I was asleep!

First Haircut

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Woke up and played with Daddy before he went to work - I make a cute face when the sunlight shines in my eyes. As usual, I hung out with Mommy during the day... I'm getting reeeallly close to being able to crawl. We worked on that a lot today. Heh, the funny thing is (and I hope Mommy and Daddy realize this: once I get the hang of crawling, nothing will be the same!

Mommy gave me a haircut, trimming some of the whispy hairs poking out the side of my head. I think she kept them in a book somewhere...

Grump

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I woke up a bit early, and Mommy didn't... so it kinda screwed up my schedule. Ergo, I had my first nap while Mommy slept in, and missed a late-afternoon nap, and was in a cranky mood for most of the day.

Daddy came home and put me to bed - I fell asleep in record time - under 10 minutes. I guess I was tired! Mommy and Daddy are both up watching the election results.

Right on Schedule

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I know I keep harping on this, but so far, my new sleeping schedule is working wonders for everyone. The funny thing is that now that Mommy and Daddy actually have some spare time for themselves and for each other, all they ever do is talk about how much they love me!

We headed out for a road trip to find some donuts, only to discover that our favourite store has closed shop. Ah well. We did some grocery shopping instead. Other than that, it's a quiet day, as Mommy plays her long-lost video game and Daddy plays his new one.

A New Friend

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Check out the photo above - that's Corrin Elizabeth MacDermott, born Jan 10,2006 - 8 lb & 9oz. My folks went to her baby shower a few weeks back, remember? Congrats to Arlynn and Jason! Isn't Corrin cute?!

So, the first night on the new snoozing regimen was a complete success, despite it being chilly in my bedroom. Today I took my naps completely on schedule, and even found time to go shopping with Mommy and Daddy at the mall.

After dancing with Daddy, it was time for bed around 8:00pm again - I put up even less of a fuss than I did last night. The only major drawback is that Mommy simply isn't used to not having me lying next to her at night.

Scary Needle Man

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy took me back to the place where the bearded man with the clipboard always stabs me in the thighs with big scary needles. This time around, I made sure I really wailed - like a banshee - every time he walked into the examination room. When he was gone, I was fine.

Yesterday, when Mommy and Daddy and I went to the bookstore, they bought a book about getting babies to sleep properly, seeing as how I've been a little... shall we say... uncooperative on the subject. And what do you think they did tonight? Why, they stuck me to a fairly rigid napping schedule and then put me in my crib at 8:00 and refused to come and get me when I cried for 90 minutes. Jerks.

Another Day at the Office

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Quite a surprise - Mommy took me on the subway (where I unsuccesfully tried to make strangers smile at me) to visit Daddy at his office again. This time, though, there were lots of people... a little overwhelming at first, but after a while I learned to relax and have fun. Daddy even had some toys in his office for me to play with. Gamma came to pick us up after Mommy and Daddy had lunch... I met some of her friends, too.

Came home, ate a roll of toilet paper, napped, and eventually went to the bookstore with Mommy and Daddy in the evening. I really liked it there this time!

Six Months Old!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

For my birthday today, I wore a birthday bonnet. Daddy will post pictures tomorrow, probably. Anyway, I woke up in a great mood, but it soon turned sour and stayed that way until Daddy came home from work. I did have a great jumper session and nap to break the tension for Mommy.

Right before my folks' favourite TV show, I managed to actually fall asleep in my crib. I was only asleep for about 40 minutes, but hey - it's something. Daddy walked me around as we watched a pretty good movie together.

I have to say, I've really enjoyed the past six months of life. So far it's been a bit of a blur (literally) and I can't really say I understand much of what's happening, but I'm a generally happy (and goofy) baby with a lot of love from family and friends. Hopefully the next six months are as fun! And hopefully I see less of the nasal aspirator.

*April 19th 2006 Update*

Due to server space limitations, Daddy had to take down the video clip. If you wanna see it, just let me know...

Bibs, not Cribs

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning I woke up in time to see Daddy scampering naked through the house, searching for clean laundry after his shower. It was so funny that I pointed and laughed at him.

Today was Grandpa's birthday, so Mommy made him some fancy dessert. Daddy and I helped by doing the dishes and staying out of the way.

Finally, once again I didn't want to sleep in my crib. After five minutes of screaming, I convinced Mommy to let me out, and Daddy carried me around while we watched a great movie. I've got those two completely wrapped around my thumb!

I hate my crib

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Hung out with Mommy. You know the drill. At the end of every day, Daddy asks Mommy about my day, for the purpose of recording in the blog. When the best she can come up with is "Um... she pooped", you know it's been a nondescript day.

Mommy and Daddy did some grocery shopping, so I hung out with Gamma and Anisa. Afterwards, Mommy and Daddy and I watched a good movie, and I fell asleep. Once they put me in my crib, though... ...I've developed a strong aversion to being anywhere near that thing.

The World is Fun ...so why sleep?!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had a nice nap with Daddy, who didn't want to wake up this morning. Due to that and a few other oddly-chosen nap times, I did NOT want to sleep in my crib tonight.

During the day, I hung out with Mommy, helped Daddy put some of his comic books away, went for a drive after dinner with my folks, and then Gamma came down and watched a stupid movie with us.

New Chair

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I said good-bye to my little old car seat today... the same one I came home from the hopsital in. Mommy and Daddy drove me out to a store in Missississauguagua where I picked out a new, bigger car seat.

We're gonna have to figure out a better 'outing' routine, though - for a five-minute trip to Rona, we had to:

1. Dress me in my snowsuit
2. Put me in the pre-warmed car
3. Take off my enormous snowsuit
4. Put me in my new car seat
5. Drive to destination
6. Take me out of the car seat
7. Put me in my snowsuit
8. Explore destination
9. Return to car
10. Remove snowsuit
11. Put me in seat
12. Drive home
13. Yank me out of the seat
14. Add snowsuit
15. Disembark.

When you add wiggliness and complaining (from Mommy and Daddy, too), the whole process can get rreeeaallly tedious. We'll work something out.

Feed me your Flyers

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I had a three-hour nap today, and went to bed kinda early, so expect me to be up for half the night.

Today I ate a lot of interesting things. I ate McDonalds, Japanese Food, Pizza, Greek Food -- well, actually, I just ate the menu/flyers. Daddy received a letter from the local Liberal Candidate in our upcoming Federal Election - for some reason, it's in Chinese (I guess her people took one look at our last name and made a dumb guess). So, Mommy let me eat that, too.

Uh... equal linkage to the other candidates: NDP and Conservative.

Puppets make me hungry

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was pretty good. In the afternoon, I switched from shouting "Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba" to "Ba ba ba ba ma ma ma ma" which made Mommy thrilled, even though she knew I was only making random noises.

Later I talked to Nana over the computer - I sure do love smashing the heck out of that keyboard! I also played with Basil's ears and scratched his forehead. Right before bed, Daddy put on a puppet show for me. About three minutes into it, I had pulled the puppets off of his hands and was eating them. They screamed in agony!

Thursday, January 12, 2006

Oh boy!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was kinda cranky today... probably due to gas. I napped quite a lot, so my crankiness wasn't intolerable or anything.

Anyway, I was hanging out with Mommy and Gamma today and I tried to eat Basil's tail. He seemed mildly annoyed. Also, I was very 'talky' today - I managed to utter something sounding very similar to "oh boy" a lot. Other than that, it's still endless miasmas of "Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba!"

Wednesday, January 11, 2006

Kiss me, you fool!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and Daddy can't decide what it means when I reach out for people's faces and press my open mouth against them... am I kissing people? Am I trying to eat people? Am I trying to breastfeed on Daddy's face?

I didn't nap much today - Daddy walked me around for all of thirty seconds and I was out like a light. But before that... PARSNIPS.

Pretending to be mad

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Not a very eventful day, to tell the truth. Same old same old. After dinner, Mommy and Daddy went to buy me a component for my high chair, and I stayed with Gamma (who passed me off to Anisa when her back started to hurt).

When Mommy tried to put me in my crib at he end of the day, as uaual I screamed and screamed and ... suddenly slept. Daddy always comes in to check on me to make sure that the reason I'm quiet isn't that I'm dead - and tonight he walked in on me quietly laughing and wiggling in the dark with my frog.

Baby Mum Mum

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning, Mommy and Daddy went back to the restaurant where I burned myself last week - I stayed with Gamma, Grandpa, and Anisa. When Mommy and Daddy came back, they brought me something new - a cookie! It was fun to eat, but hard to keep away from the dog.

We went to the mall to look for car seats (I'm getting too small for the one I've got), to no avail... although Daddy discovered that a baby in a stroller is a much better 'chick magnet' when he's entertaining her with a hand puppet.

psst

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was fine. It was snowing a lot, so Mommy and Daddy finished up cleaning our apartment while I oversaw operations from my jolly jumper. I made sure that things went smoothly, and according to code.

After dinner, we went out for coffee (as usual), only this time I was awake the whole time - and didn't make a peep! Daddy discovered the reason why when we got home... I've been practicing my whispering. While we walked and he sang me to sleep, I whispered "ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba..."

I wag my tongue at you!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I spent the majority of the day with my tongue out today. When you're my age, you don't have many skills aside from pooping my pants (and am I ever getting awesome at that), so you've gotta stick to what you know. Today, it was tongue-wagging. I played a game with Daddy - whenever he'd try to take a photo of me with my tongue sticking out, I'd reel it back in.

I didn't nap much and was fairly cheerful all day long, even when Mommy put me to bed in the crib.

My parents sure do love me!

The Godfather

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I wasn't in much of a 'nappy' mood today, but I was kinda groggy... when Mommy saw me in my high chair, slouched back, food on my face, slack-jawed, drowsy and farting, she just had to call Daddy at work to laugh about it. She said I looked like a baby Mafia Boss.

Her and Daddy went out to a movie once he got home from work - I hung out with Gamma, Anisa, and Grandpa. I was yelly for part of the time.

Basil's ears

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mom got a bit tired of carrying me around - it's all I seemed interested in - so she let Basil look after me for a few minutes. I leaned against him and played with his ears... he didn't seem to mind.

I did NOT want to sleep (or eat) today, but try as I might, I couldn't stay awake once Daddy got home. When Mommy put me in my crib I screamed and screamed... but, like, ten minutes after I was out I fell asleep anyway.

Huggy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Slept in a bit today - took it easy with Mommy. I've been sucking on celery sticks for quite some time now, so Mommy decided to puree some and feed it to me with a spoon. I definately prefer it this way. Had some pears, too.

Daddy came home from work early today - over the holidays some mean person copied his debit card and ran up a hefty bill on our bank account - he had to get to our bank branch before it closed for the day. It's all sorted out... and I got to hang out with my Daddy! We even went to Best Buy to buy computer parts.

I've been extremely huggy with Mommy over the past few days, too. I gave her a big wet slobbery kiss yesterday.

Clover and the Quest for the Lofty Throne

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning after breakfast Mommy and Daddy and I headed off to Ikea in search of a high chair for me, since I loved the ones in Montreal and New Hampshire so much. Since today is a holiday, it was insane. So many people!

We got out of there quick, but then Mommy and Daddy discovered that we were missing one of the legs for the high chair. So... they headed back out into the breach to find it. In the meantime, I hung out with Gamma and Grandpa and the Nixons. I made sure I equal parts freaked out and snoozed, to make it worth their while.

Once Mommy and Daddy came back, we all had a big dinner with the Nixons (Cool Uncle Gareth was over, too). Mommy really wants me to start being able to fall asleep in my crib, so she left me in there. I cried and cried, but eventually I snoozed. It's hard on Mommy, but Daddy distracts her from my wailing by telling her stupid jokes.

Cappuccino burn my feet-o

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning Mommy and Daddy and I went to a restaurant to have brunch with Daniele, where I nonchalantly reached across the table for Mommy's cappuccino, flipping it over and spilling it all over Mommy and I. I got some bad (but very teeny tiny) blistering burns on my toe and ankle. I cried and made a noise like this:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
GGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

We had to bail on brunch. Once we got home - it was as though nothing had happened! I was in a great mood. (I think my folks are permanently traumatized, though.)

Later in the day, the Nixons came over! Yay! I was extremely cute for them, as usual.

Home again, home again

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Had a nice morning breakfast at Uncle Ed & Aunt Diane's house, and then it was back into the car for yet another five-hour drive from one city to another. This one took a big longer, though, due to snow and traffic. Blah. Basil and I get really bored, just hanging out in the back seat all day long. It's great to be back, though, and it's great to see Gamma and Grandpa and all my stuff.

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
