"Anna" x4

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today Mommy and I took a walk over to Topham Park, where we had our first playschool session of the season! Julie and Sarah were there, as was Patty and her three kids (all four of whom I referred to as 'Anna'). I had a blast - there were lots of awesome dinosaur toys to play with, and we did some cool crafts and the like.

Mommy and I had a quiet afternoon... I played in my room, on the computer, in the living room, with Gammy and Grandpa, and even in the kitchen. Daddy was home from work kinda late (but not too late)... we had a nice dinner, and then Nana called. I sang a belated 'Happy Birthday' to her over the phone while sitting on the potty (Daddy took some hopefully-never-to-surface photos), and then I was out like a light.

No Toads Allowed

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I got Daddy up nice and early this morning. The three of us had a nice quiet morning before packing a picnic and heading out to the Bruce trail for our traditional weekend hike. We ate at the mouth of a section of trail, and then hiked for a good 110 minutes (give or take)... I was happy and non-whiny for at least the first 60 minutes. I got pretty upset over little things (Daddy's befriending of a toad he caught and something to do with a water bottle), which led Daddy to carry me on his shoulders for the last part of the walk.

We drove around the Caledon area looking for an election sign for Daddy's friend Becky (I posed with one), and stopped by a pumpkin patch / farmer's market for some apples, and then drove home... I didn't nap once, amazingly!

Mommy and Daddy listened in while I played with my toys in my room, we had a nice dinner, watched television as a family, I had a bath, and went to sleep really easily.

Marriage Cancelling?

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I woke up Daddy before he could sneak in his usual weekend sleeping-in... and I pretty much had him to myself for most of the day. We ate breakfast together, watched cartoons, played in my room, put on a puppet show, drew pictures, composed and recorded a new song, watched movie clips on the computer, and played lots of video games together. Great stuff! Mommy, meanwhile, actually got some sewing done (she made me some awesome clothes).

On the other hand, Daddy misplaced his bank card, so as soon as Gammy and Grandpa's "Marriage Cancelling" was over, we borrowed the car and went to the bank and Starbucks, and then drove downtown so that Mommy could buy some new fabric.

After dinner (Daddy is officially back on his crazy diet), I had one heck of a hard time settling down for bed (probably because I napped in the car for so long). My unwillingness to sleep put Mommy into a horrible, horrible mood. Nonetheless, I was a really good girl for Daddy.

More Hallowe'en Stuff

[As transcribed by Daddy]

The house was nice and clean today, and Mommy didn't wanna give me the opportunity to mess it up so quickly, so... we got out of the house to run various errands. First off, we took the bus to the fabric store, went to a card store to look at Hallowe'en stuff, and then went to a restaurant I called "Mario Side" for lunch. Mommy and I drew pictures of our lunch.

Next we hit Old Navy, and I got a lot of loot - mostly more Hallowe'en clothes. We went to the dollar store and got loads more Hallowe'en stuff, not to mention some much-needed chopsticks and another Dinosaur book.

After we got home, I visited with my Grandparents before Daddy came home (he got another high cholesterol diagnosis from the Doctor today, so it's back on his crazy diet). We had dinner, I had a bath, and then I watched him play video games.

Taking a Break

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Instead of hopping into bed with my folks when I woke up this morning, I went over to Gammy's and drew pictures. THEN I went and woke up my parents.

Mommy and I had a nice, quiet morning... in the afternoon, we needed to go to the butcher's, but we ended up waiting so long for the bus that it took us about an hour to get to to the subway station! We did our shopping quickly, and then caught a ride home from Grandpa.

We had some tidying to do when we got home... I kept taking breaks while cleaning my room. Leslie came over for dinner, followed by Daddy some time later (the city was crippled by a bad transit shutdown). I was pretty wired, but we enjoyed dinner and then had a nice walk up-and-down the street.

Circles / Os

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was a good girl today... and was all about Mommy, which was a nice change for her, seeing as how over the past few days I've been both kinda difficult and all about Daddy. The two of us had a quiet day - we went for a walk to buy some flowers, played outside a lot, and did a whole lot of artwork and painting and stuff.

I had a nice tea party with Gammy and Nee-Nee today... I got a little moody when Gammy couldn't tell me "O" drawings apart from my "circle" drawings. Likewise, I kinda flipped out when Daddy came home from work and in our customary game of 'pretend restaurant', he told me I had to leave my imaginary water buffalo outside.

After a nice Dinner, I swore up and down that I was awake enough to go grocery shopping with my folks... but I was asleep by the time we arrived!

Can't Sit Still

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was NOT in a good mood this morning - I was whiny, complainy, and difficult. I put both of my parents in terrible moods right as they got out of bed, and needed to be taken out to the farmer's market to get me out of the house. Once we were there, I was much better!

I settled down upon my return, had some lunch, but couldn't sit still in my little chair and fell over in it - biting into my cheek as I hit the floor. Mommy saw the blood pouring out of my face and was terrified that I had lost a tooth, but... nope, just a little cut. My mood was the only lasting injury. I had to have a nap.

After said nap, once again - I just. Couldn't. Sit. Still. Mommy calmed me down with some video games, but she got a bad headache in the process. I had the bright idea to do Swiss Chalet (as is the customary 'Mommy's got a headache' food for some reason), so Daddy and I went and got some. Yummy!

I think this man is 'very handsome'.

Daddy: An "Awesome Guy"

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I hopped into bed with my folks again in the middle of the night - Mommy didn't get much sleep as a result. We had a quiet morning - we decided to head out to Marvelous Edibles for lunch, but it was closed once we got there, so we walked all the way over to Jawny Baker's where I had the grilled cheese sandwich I craved so much.

Once we got home, while Mommy wasn't napping, she was reading to me and playing with me. I told her that I have an 'Awesome Daddy' - seeing as how he also plays with me in my room, and successfully defeated a witch after four tries in his new video game. He enjoyed hearing about that.

Daddy and I played in my room (reading dinosaur books to Dingy-Dingy) when he came home from work, and then I had fun watching him slay monsters in his video game before I totally crashed at bedtime.

Oysters & Mussels

[As transcribed by Daddy]

What a great day! After lunch today, I played with Daddy - Mommy tried to join us, but I pushed her out the door, telling her "There's a sign that says 'No Mommies'!"

That prompted Mommy and Daddy and Basil and I to go out and sell some CDs and DVDs and games and stuff... we filled up on coffee and drove out to Rouge Park, where we went for a nice, long walk through the woods with Basil. We saw a frog, threw rocks in the river, and had a fantastic afternoon.

Once we got home I had a bath and made a real mess of the bathroom - but that didn't stop my parents from loading me back into the car with Gammy and Grandpa. We all went out to Toronto's Distillery district and went to a fantastic and fancy restaurant (My grandparents' Anniversary gift to my parents). I became the youngest patron to ever eat oysters - although I preferred Grandpa's Mussels.

My parents enjoyed the great day... but enjoyed the fact that I enjoyed it even more.

Phone-y

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was up early this morning, and watched Saturday morning cartoons with Daddy. Fun times! Mommy finally found her missing telephone - she located it in a photograph of our Harvest Moon party, sitting on the edge of the lake in the middle of the night. Seeing as how it's probably on the bottom of Lake Ontario right now, we went out to the mall to buy her a new one (#3). Only... the Fido outlet at the mall is now a Telus outlet.

So we went to Best Buy, bought a pre-paid phone, and Daddy sat on hold for about an hour until Fido converted the pre-paid phone into Mommy's main phone (the old number still applies). While he sat there, Mommy and I bought picnic fixins'.

We drove out west and went for a nice hike along the Bruce. I was gleefully happy one minute (see photo), and miserable the next. I think I was tired. The Expressway was closed this weekend, so after a quick stop for ice cream, we decided to get home by driving through the city, rather than around it. It took ages, but we made it.

Smells like Evan

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I rejoiced in the new television programming season - new cartoons! I was happily surprised. Also, at one point Mommy smelled me and with a smile sighed "You smell like heaven." A few minutes later, she caught me smelling Basil's fur and exclaiming "Basil, you smell like Evan."

Mommy and I went for a nice walk this afternoon, and were joined by Grandpa on the way out, and by Nee-Nee on the way back! On the return trip, I actually started to plan a Hallowe'en play - I would be a witch, Mommy would be a cat, Daddy would be a Bunny, and Gammy would play Basil, and we'd all go strawberry picking, and then Basil would magically pick a green strawberry. Daddy is going to make more of an effort to coax further bits of the story out of me.

Speaking of Daddy, he came home from work late again - which usually means I get to stay up a little extra late... even though I was really ready to go to bed, and despite the allure of the awesome Hallowe'en cookies Mommy and I made today.

Messy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I slept in my bed all night, and let my parents sleep really soundly. They appreciated it! We all woke up to such a nice day... it wasn't too hot, wasn't too cold, was nice and sunny, and was really awesome. Mommy and I took a nice walk, came home, and played outside for quite a while!

After we came home, I managed to completely destroy my room from top-to-bottom, which is a shame because it was so clean yesterday! Mommy was pretty stunned.

I made the second mess of the day at dinner - I managed to get about 10% of the pasta Mommy made in my tummy, and the other 90% on my face. When Daddy came home (late) from work, he found me in the tub, still slathered in tomato sauce.

At The Movies

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today kinda flew by - no idea where the day went. This morning I watched some television, played video games, and had a bath while Mommy tidied, did a lot of laundry, coloured her hair, and did some sudoku puzzles. We did have some bonus daily drama when Mommy lost her cell phone (or maybe I lost it) and nobody can find it. A good chunk of the afternoon was spent looking for it and getting into a pretty bad mood.

Mommy left to go shopping with Leslie late in the afternoon, and I hung out with Gammy and Grandpa - I helped them make dinner, which Daddy joined us for. After that, it was time for a special date - Daddy took me downtown to see my very first movie at a theater (see photo)! I had a great time - I ate an entire large popcorn, saw a great movie, and was incredibly well-behaved. Daddy was so proud!

We met up with Mommy and Leslie on the way home, and went to bed a little late... but it was okay, because I was being such a great kid.

Working on a Workbook

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I took the bus to the farmer's market this morning - we got there and came home again in record time. We were so fast! After lunch, I got it into my head that I wanted to walk over to the corner store to do some shopping. Mommy obliged... we went to the corner store and then over to the drug store, where I ended up buying a little workbook.

We came home, and I filled-out my workbook on the kitchen floor while Mommy made some dinner. She was really proud of me - I'm really smart, apparently! I asked Mommy to read to me from my Dinosaur Encyclopaedia... it must've been really fascinating, because she fell asleep in the middle of it.

I woke her up and demanded some of the "Bubbly Cherry Juice" that Leslie brought over last night (which is actually cranberry juice and ginger ale that Daddy brought home last night).

Museum, Measurements, and Moon

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Since Daddy didn't get his birthday off from work as promised last week (due to his company's re-launch party), he took his free day today. We all took advantage of his presence and went to the Royal Ontario Museum to check out the dinosaur skeletons! I was happy to see that they hadn't walked off since I last went. I had a good time, but when we discovered that half of the museum was closed, we complained and got a refund.

After a short walk around the neighbourhood and a stop for some hot cocoa, we drove over to the Doctor's office so that Daddy and I could get checkups. I happily played and read books in the waiting room while my folks were bored silly. I was nervous about seeing the Doctor, but he weighed me, measured me, and measured the circumference of my head, and gave me a little toy hippo! My favourite Doctor visit yet.

After we came home, Mommy cooked a late dinner, and we were joined by Leslie, who then went with us down to the beach late at night to attend my Harvest Moon party. We stood on the beach in the moonlight, danced, sang songs, and threw rocks into the water. What a great time!

Accidents

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy was in a pretty bad mood this morning - maybe it has to do with the fact that I interrupted her sleep early in the morning because I had an accident in my bed. To calm herself down, she... ...cleaned my room?

After Daddy woke up and I had some leftover pizza for lunch, we drove out to the forest for a nice afternoon hike. It was supposed to be pouring with rain due to the remnants of hurricane Ike, but the weather was sunny - and insanely humid (Daddy's hair got really fluffy).

We headed back home, and I paid a visit to Grandpa, who is back from a trip to Montreal for a conference. I was really hungry, and asked Mommy if dinner was ready about a million times while she was making it. As soon as I got my food - I had an accident at the dinner table, which caused some considerable drama. We all had a long talk over that one.

As I slept, the weather hit - the wind knocked over a tree, sending it crashing into our backyard tent.

Glow-In-The-Dark Hybrid Mini-Golf

[As transcribed by Daddy]

We started the weekend off with some playing in my room, some videogames, and even some tidying. After lunch, Mommy and Daddy and I drove out into the rain and hit our local Ikea to buy me a new mattress... and were scared off by the crowds. We then drove out to Vaughan, where we hit a second Ikea. They didn't have the mattress we wanted.

Right next to the Ikea was one of those glow-in-the-dark mini-golf places, so we just kinda went in spur-of-the-moment and played a full round of blacklight mini-golf. It was cool - I invented a weird hybrid of croquet/billiards/hockey-style playing, and didn't even mind the large crowds of loiterers just standing around in the middle of our game.

We hit a really crappy mall on the way home, hit the bookstore and read some Halloween books, and then went back to Ikea #1... which once again scared us away.

We were starving when we got home, and ordered a pizza - they kept us on hold over the phone for too long and kept Daddy waiting for close to 30 mins when he went to pick it up. We don't know if it was any good - we ate it too fast to taste it.

Educating Debbie

[As transcribed by Daddy]

After I woke up this morning, I immediately went to visit Gammy - but she was asleep, so I decided to leave her alone. Mommy wonder why I won't do that for her. In any case, once we were all awake, we had tea together!

Mommy and I sat down to watch some more of my dinosaur DVD before going for a nice walk to the store to buy some butter. Later in the day, Gammy's friend Debbie paid a visit. Once I was comfortable with her, I stood there and basically told her everything I knew - I educated her on the history of dinosaurs, going to the CNE, and having tea with Gammy.

After Daddy came home, he joined Mommy and Basil and I for a lovely walk around the block. I walked Basil for part of the trip, until he peed and did that speed-burst thing he does, pulling me along the ground as I held the leash. Nuthin' a few kisses from Mommy didn't fix.

The Apple Bandit

[As transcribed by Daddy]

It was a nice and lovely day today - so, to get me out of the house, Mommy and I took the bus and subway downtown to visit Daddy at work! We grabbed some food at the local supermarket, ate a nice picnic in the nearby park, and then went and visited Daddy's co-workers, some of whom I've met before (Tracy and Matt) and a bunch of new people, too! We left Daddy so that he could get some work done, and then walked through Mount Pleasant Cemetery to the book store where Nee Nee works (but she wasn't around).

By the time we got home, Mommy and I were completely pooped! I watched my Monsters Inc. movie, and then I started to sneak and then eat a couple of apples out of Mommy's purse and hide the half-eaten remnants all over the house. I sure do love apples!

After dinner I was kinda wound-up - Mommy and I both ended up crashing a little early.

Daddy's Shirt Pants

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy gave me a present this morning - a new pair of pajamas, made from Daddy's old trademark black-and-white striped shirt. He's gonna miss it, but is glad his shirt has been reincarnated.

Mommy and I went for a nice walk around the neighbourhood today - I got to hold Basil's leash for a good chunk of the hike, which was pretty cool (he's old and goes easy on me), except for the time he was almost eaten by a cat one tenth his size. Mommy and I played "red / green", a game I made up (a variation on the perennial "stop / go" fave).

Mommy and I also played Spore today, which was kinda cool. I was a really really really well-behaved kid today, and didn't have a single freakout, even when I was fighting off sleep at the end of the day and harassing the heck out of Gammy and Nee-Nee.

Keeping the Doctor Away

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I took the bus over to the local farmer's market and bought a whole whackload of tomatoes this morning. I really got it into my head that we needed apples... in spite of the large bag of apples we bought on the weekend when we went apple picking.

Speaking of apples, I keep sneaking apples outta that bag when Mommy isn't looking. I really seem to have taken it to heart that they 'keep the doctor away' (a proverb I like to quote a lot), and have also found that all the abandoned apple cores I leave around the house make for nice ornaments.

When Daddy came home from work, he brought me a new DVD, which we watched during dinner (and after Mommy and Daddy and I played outside in the rain).

Rivers of Blood

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy went into the closet in my room for something or other, and didn't emerge for another 45 minutes... by then, she had surprisingly cleaned it out and organized everything. Awesome! I was playing in my room in the meantime... at one point I banged my knee and opened an old scab from a previous miscellaneous injury. I was pretty upset - Mommy calmed me down, but then when we went to change my pants and I saw RIVERS OF BLOOD pouring down my leg, I flipped out!

Mommy calmed me down again, cleaned me up, and got things back to normal... but by then the morning had passed us by. Turns out the injury wasn't nearly as bad as it looked. We went outside, I rode my trike, had some lunch, and had a testy afternoon. Mommy and I had a marathon nap after I threw a pretty huge shrieking fit.

Since we slept so late - I got to stay up really late. Daddy and I played and played outside in a rainstorm, and after dinner, we all went out for hot cocoa.

Medusa: Not So Scary

[As transcribed by Daddy]

My parents observed me with rapt fascination today to see if I would continue yesterday's wacky behaviour... luckily, I was much calmer and way more focused. After a nice morning, we all had some lunch, watched cartoons, and then loaded into the car and drove out to scenic Brampton. We were hoping for good weather and a hike, but settled for rain and the craft store instead.

We bought a whole whackload of crafty stuff, and I got to look at and play with the Halloween decorations. I saw a kinda pretty bust of Medusa, and decided that maybe she wouldn't make such a bad Halloween costume after all!

After a quick walk through the Future Shop, a stop for coffee, and a trip to the bookstore, where we all looked at dinosaur books, we drove back home along the lakeshore. I got to watch my Dinosaur movie during dinner, which was a nice treat... and then I seriously fought going to bed. Again.

Early Pumpkin

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was up and in bed with my folks at about four a.m. - and at that point, I was ready to party, not go back to sleep. So... it was one of those mornings.

Eventually, Mommy and Daddy and I drove over to Best Buy to get a new printer. After that, we went to the butcher and headed home again. While we waited for lunch to cook, Daddy and I had a little dance party to some music I really loved! On the way out to the apple orchard, we picked up the very same music from the store.

I slept on the way to the orchard, and we took a few wrong turns on the way, but had a great time once we got there... we found a corn maze, picked some apples, played on a playground... and discovered that the best way to get a good jack o' lantern is to get to the pumpkin patch two months in advance.

We came home, and I was bonkers. I played with Daddy outside, ran around inside, ate enough dinner for ten kids, and was just generally crazy. The above photo kinda sums up how I was - that's me unable to stand still, cackling like a witch in the night.

Pictographic Scavenger Hunt

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and I started off the day with some more bedroom decorations. I asked for bats, and I got bats! Awesome!

Mommy and I made the trip over to Julie and Sarah's place - we had a really awesome visit. Mommy was Sarah's special friend today. It's taken long enough, but it's nice to see that Sarah has finally warmed up to my Mommy. Meanwhile, to use Mommy's words, "And Clover was Clover."

After we came home, I tried to get away with watching television with my grandparents, and then went outside with Mommy, who invented a new kind of game - she'd draw pictures of stuff in the yard and I'd have to find them. I was really good at it (partly because Mommy's drawings are so good).

After Daddy came home from work a bit early, we drove downtown to visit the new design bookstore. Daddy spent a fortune on books and stuff - I had a blast playing with the toys and kid's gear. On the way to a restaurant, we kinda got caught up in the crowds and commotions surrounding the big local film festival. It was crazy! We hid in a creperie and ended up having a fantastic dinner.

We miraculously avoided the downtown traffic and came home - I have to say, it's nice living in a big city and actually doing big city stuff, which I've done twice this week!

Hallowe'en Room

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I played dinosaurs with Daddy before he left for work, and then Mommy and I gave my room a Hallowe'en theme by decorating it with coloured construction paper leaves and stuff - I made a nice little jack o' lantern, and got to use scissors for the very first time! Also... I love glue stick. I really really love how my room looks... it's so exciting! Mommy and I played Hallowe'en with my Dinosaurs.

I had a nice chat with Nana on the phone today, and had a nice dinner with Mommy - we ate pizza and watched dinosaur documentaries on the computer. I had a bath, went outside and played in the evening darkness, and got to go for a nice walk around the block with Gammy and Nee-Nee (who played with along the way, despite being exhausted).

Daddy was out at his company's big relaunch party, so I didn't see him - but he snuck in and kissed me good-night once he got home anyway, since he missed me so much.

Cleaning Up Dinosaur and the Madeinchinasaurus

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Cool Uncle Gareth made good on his promise to take me out to buy a toy for my birthday today... we headed on over to the local toy store, and I had a difficult time choosing one dinosaur over all the others (Gareth ended up buying me two). I named one a 'Cleaning Up Dinosaur' (as it helps me clean up my room) and the other one is called the "Madeinchinasaurus".

Gareth headed home to Yew Nork today... I was more into playing with dinosaurs than saying goodbye to him. Once he left, though, I was kinda sad and a little bit cranky. Mommy and I ended up having a much-needed nap to calm me down.

Daddy was home from work pretty late today - he got home just in time to say good-night to me and to meet the Cleaning Up Dinosaur and the Madeinchinasaurus.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning before Daddy left for work, Mommy and I presented him with some birthday cards (see photo). Once he was gone, Mommy and I took the bus over to the farmer's market, and then we took the subway over to Victoria Park station, where we waited for yet another bus. While we waited - surrounded by stinky, crazy, scary, and weird people, I spun around in a circle going "tick tock, tick tock, tick tock" until I got dizzy.

Next up, we picked up some groceries, and then retrieved Mommy's sewing machine from the sewing machine repair store. We quickly took it home, and Mommy got to work on a whole bunch of uncompleted sewing projects. We made Daddy a cool green monster toy, made him a cake for his birthday, and even managed to make the world's most awesome Bled-Nez Nosepicker (see yesterday's blog) you've ever seen. When he got home and saw it, he absolutely loved it!

Before bed, Davis and Erin Stoyanoff visited Cool Uncle Gareth and my grandparents with new baby Owen in tow, so Mommy and Daddy and I went over to check him out. He was very sweet (and very big!)... I was good with him, and did my best to not hog too much of the spotlight.

The Bled-Nez Nosepicker

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today is labour day, so... seeing as how nuthin' is open and most public areas are packed, we decided to try the usual and drive out to the middle of nowhere and hike a chunk of the Bruce trail.

First, though we decided to have some lovely french toast with peach jam for breakfast, I played outside with Mommy and Daddy, and then we all went for a picnic out in the park, where we finished off the leftovers from last night's dinner with Cool Uncle Gareth and Leslie.

We had a nice drive out into the country, and we had a lovely 90-minute hike through the woods where I commented on the many varieties of moss, mushrooms, and at one point I found a lone grey feather on the ground. I explained to my parents that it must have belonged to the "Bled-Nez Nosepicker", which I described as a legless hummingbird-sized animal with a long pink beak, no tail, a long wingspan, and a rainbow-coloured butt that shoots blood on the ground. It flies around a person's face and picks their nose with its beak. It also smokes cigarettes.

I sure do have quite the imagination

Birthday Dim Sum

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was pretty excited this morning - today's the day we celebrated Daddy's 32nd birthday! Mommy and Daddy and Cool Uncle Gareth and I drove out to Chinatown, parked (far away from our destination) and walked over to a pretty cool restaurant for some birthday dim sum! We were joined by Leslie and Daddy's awesome friends Ray and Hubert, both of whom I haven't seen in quite some time. The food was great, the company was nice and fun - and Ray even brought me / Daddy a nice Hello Kitty pillow-thing.

Mommy and I went for a walk through Chinatown before being joined by Daddy and Ray and Hubert - we walked over to an ice cream place and had snacks. Then Mommy and Daddy and I headed home, and I played dinosaurs with Daddy in my room. He struggled to stay awake.

Daddy and I went out to do some quick grocery shopping, which was fun - we picked up Cool Uncle Gareth, came home, met with Leslie again, and all had a great dinner of chicken and beet salad (care of Leslie's present for Daddy). I went to sleep afterwards pretty easily.
