Border Blues

[As transcribed by Daddy on Jan 1st, 2006]

Got up early and had breakfast with Sara. It was nice to see her! Then Mommy & Daddy packed up the car and we drove all the way back to Uncle Ed & Aunt Diane's. I slept almost the entire way (!!) there, until we got stuck waiting at the border. Once we navigated through Montreal, I was happy - I like to sit in a high chair and eat celery. Elizabeth thinks I said "hello", but none of us are certain yet...

Foul Mood

[As transcribed by Daddy on Jan 1st, 2006]

Mommy and Nana and I went out to breakfast this morning - I was on my very best behaviour. Once we came home and Mommy got me to cry myself to sleep, it put me in a foul mood for the rest of the afternoon. Eventually we all went out to dinner - I was good again. We rented a movie and all watched it, and then I swear to goodness, Jim danced for me right before bed, You had to see it to believe it!

Movie Star

[As transcribed by Daddy on Jan 1st, 2006]

Today I went back to the mall with Mommy and Daddy and Nana and Jim. Daddy bought a video camera and some groceries. Later on, while I napped, he and Mommy snuck out and bought books. I played a lot on the living room floor - Daddy videotaped it.I have a feeling that this will be the start fo something annoyingly frequent.

...heeeehhh.... .....wwwoooah...?

[As transcribed by Daddy on Jan 1st, 2006]

This morning Mommy & Daddy & Zoe & I drove to a big mall. Once I was out of my stroller, I was able to enjoy myself. Not much else... had a few naps here and there. Jim said 'boo' to me once. Daddy walked and walked and walked with me until I fell asleep. While we were pacing around the house, I may have tried to say "hello" to Daddy, and since then, Mommy and Daddy and Nana have been trying to coerce it out of me again.

Wrapping Paper Eating Day II

[As transcribed by Daddy on Jan 1st, 2006]

Woke up last night shreiking. I dunno what the matter was... maybe bad dreams. Or gas. Mommy & Daddy hoped that'd mean I'd sleep through the long car ride we went on after Daddy and Eric packed and de-iced the car... but no such luck. I fussed all the way between Burlington and Montpelier. Once we got to our destination, I was really happy - Nana and Zoe and Jim and that stupid dog Charlie are here! We ate some more wrapping paper - good stuff!

Wrapping Paper Eating Day

[As transcribed by Daddy on Jan 1st, 2006]

What a weird day. Woke up, went downstairs, and had a wacky party with the family - there were colourful packages, which we unwrapped and then I got to eat the paper.

Once again all the relatives got together - there was lots of photograph taking, food eating, toy playing, and the like. Mommy and Daddy and I were completely worn out and ready for bed by lunchtime. Altogether, though, it was good. I did get a lot of wrapping paper to eat.

High Chair Clementine

[As transcribed by Daddy on Jan 1st, 2006]

Today I woke up at Eric & Elizabeth's - hung out for a while, and then Mommy walked me to Uncle Ed & Aunt Diane's house. All in all, it was a fun day - Robin gave me clementines, which I LOVED (apparently I was almost named 'Clementine') and cucumber, which I didn't like. I got to sit at the table in a high chair - pretty cool! I'll have to make sure Mommy & Daddy invest in one.

After dinner, I sucked on my upper lip and made everyone laugh. I love being the centre of attention!

Back to Montreal

[As transcribed by Daddy on Jan 1st, 2006]

Today we all got loaded up into a big 'ol rental car and headed out on the highway for Montreal. I'm very happy to report that I slept for pretty much the whole journey - which is good, because I needed to be on my 'a' game for Gamma, Grandpa, Great Grannie, my Uncles Armour, Gareth, and Ed, Aunt Diane, and cousins Eric, Elizabeth, Robin, Brian, Nevik, Olivia, and Lola (not to mention doggies Basil and Oscar). Phew!! That's a lot of people to be cute for. I blargged a lot.

Everyone says I look so much bigger than I was last time they saw me...

Limey

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was cool - hung out with Mommy. The usual. Later on in the day, we had a big ol' family dinner out at a nice restaurant. Mommy and Daddy and Cool Uncle Gareth and Julia and Gamma and Grandpa were there... all I wanted to do was play with their glasses and water bottles. I did get to suck on a lime wedge (weird), and A waiter gave me a cookie just for being cute. I'm proud to say that I was very well behaved.

Over the next few days, Mommy and Daddy and Basil and I will be away from the computer, but we promise to update the blog after-the-fact. In the meantime, have a happy holidays!

The Return of Cool Uncle Gareth

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy had a Chiropractor's appointment, so while she was there, I hung out with Gamma, Grandpa, Cool Uncle Gareth and Julia, who are visiting from far away. Nice to see them again! I made sure I put on a show for them.

Went grocery shopping with Mommy when she came back - I ate the shopping list. Daddy had a company Christmas party to go to tonight, so I didn't see much of him.

Car Accident (Sounds)

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I spent most of the day making happy 'Car Accident' noises:
"Mmmmmmmmmmmm-MMMMMMmmmmmmm
rrrrRRRRRrrrr-RRRRRRRrrrrrrr-EEERRRRRRCCCCCCHHHHH!!!!"

Mommy woke up with a sore neck (perhaps my sound effects psychosomatically affected her dreams?) so we went to visit the Chiropractor. Then Gammy and Mommy and I went shopping for my cousin Zoe.

When Daddy came home from work, I had this to say as we danced together:
"Mmmmmmmmmmmm-MMMMMMmmmmmmm
rrrrRRRRRrrrr-RRRRRRRrrrrrrr-EEERRRRRRCCCCCCHHHHH!!!!"

I'd rather gnaw my own feet off...

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Woke up this morning and made an enormous poop. Isn't that great? Since I started eating solid-ish food, the waste department has been re-evaluating normal procedure.

I was in a pretty awesome mood all day, so Mommy and Daddy felt comfortable heading out to see a movie, leaving me with Gamma and Grandpa and Anisa. I fell asleep on Grandpa - when Mommy and Daddy came home, I chewed on my feet.

Five months old!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, I turned five months old. To celebrate, I decided that I didn't like Mommy anymore, and would only be pleasant around Daddy.

We all drove to the town of Belfountain, and then came home and visited the Johnsons next door - I made sure I was on my best behaviour, and did plenty of smiling. Emilie really likes me.

Afterwards, I decided I didn't like Daddy anymore, and would only be pleasant around Mommy.

For my monthly birthday message, click here. I wasn't talkative, but I did have a case of my infamous hiccups when recording...

Naps and naps and naps

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I slept in with Daddy today, and then after lunch I had a quick nap. Once I woke up, Mommy and Daddy took me for a drive so we could do some Christmas shopping for my cousins Nevik and Olivia, during which I fell asleep. When it was time for dinner, Mommy sent Daddy out for Chinese food - while he was gone, I snoozed. After dinner, Daddy and I trained for the 2024 Summer Olympics (Women's Freestyle Standing Up Competition), and then we went out for coffee - I fell asleep, and was out for the night.

Bananas & Beans

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I got to eat some mashed-up banana. I didn't care for it very much - bananas can't hold a candle to beans, in my book. Speaking of beans, Grandpa has started calling me that. 'Beans'.

Mommy and Daddy took me to the mall for some Christmas shopping after dinner and hypnosis. I can't say I had the best time, but I did get a bunny out of it, as did my new cousin Lola.

Get that tail outta my face

[As transcribed by Daddy]

When I first woke up this morning, I was grumpy. Then I had a 12-minute post-snooze nap. When I woke up from that, I was in a much better mood.

When Daddy came home from work today, Basil was so happy to see him that his wagging tail smacked me repeatedly in the face. I need to learn to avoid that thing - but it's hard to be very agile when you're strapped into a jolly jumper.

We were gonna go Christmas shopping today, but there's a crazy snowstorm, so we decided against it. Daddy and I had a nap instead.

Vegetables!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Aside from the public protest I held whilst at the supermarket with Mommy and Gamma and Grandpa, I had a pretty good day. In fact, after Daddy got home from work, I was treated to a new food - I had no idea that you could eat green beans, and not just - you know, kinda just munch on 'em. Anyway, thumbs up from me.

Faceplant!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

So, I'm hangin' out with Mommy, sittin' on the floor today, as usual, and while she was looking the other way I spontaneously fell forward, face-first onto the carpet. Through laughter, Mommy quickly snatched me up as I did one of those 30-second silent 'cry faces' before finally inhaling and then letting out a five-minute monster wail. Then I was fine.

Tonight, Daddy and Gamma and Basil & I watched television while Mommy had a bath. Gamma is hilarious - she makes me laugh like nobody else can!

The happy streak ends.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Well, my long streak of glorious happy days has come to an end... it was back to being grumpy for most of the day today.

I fussed and whined for most of the day, and then at one point Mommy tricked me into falling asleep... and when I woke up, I discovered that both her and Daddy had snuck off to a movie, leaving me with Gamma and Grandpa and Anisa. Lucky for everyone, I like spending time with them.

When Mommy and Daddy came home, I forgave them. For the time being.

All the old Chinese ladies love me.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today I slept in 'till, like, eleven! Mommy and Daddy found a new Dim Sum place (since the one they used to go to closed) out in Scarborough - it was big, loud, crazy, confusing, and just generally bonkers. I absolutely loved it! I got lots of attention from the wait staff, as well as from neighbouring diners.

Nick came over later in the day for dinner and to watch television with us - he made me smile. Also, Mommy & Daddy's friend Samantha came over and brought me a Christmas present. Isn't that nice? She should come over again.

Baby Shower

[As transcribed by Daddy]

The above picture makes it look like I was miserable at Arlynn & Jay's baby shower (and I was, maybe for a minute or two), but that's because I had, like, zero naps all day long. Other than that, I was a perfect little angel, and hopefully I didn't change anyone's minds about becoming parents. Mommy and Daddy seemed to have a good time, and seemed glad to see everyone.

As soon as I boarded my stroller on the way home, I was out like a light. I've never been that wired before, and I've never spent an evening trying so hard to fight off slumber. What can I say - I liked the attention! Mom & Dad found it pretty funny!

Food is the Best.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Another great mood = another great day! Aside from a funny freak-out in the back of the car on the way home from a late-night shopping jaunt, everything was pretty awesome! From waking up to playing with Mommy to jumping in my jumper to eating my slimy rice/mush food (which I really look forward to now) to hurling verbal abuse at the dog to watching DVDs with my parents, things were fantastic.

Fell asleep in Daddy's arms while we sang. I'm finding it easier to do so outside of the Bjorn - but whatever, Daddy and his noodle arms could use the workout.

Macaroni Head

[As transcribed by Daddy]

A big shout out to Sara, for sending the nice sleeping bag thing. I love it!

Today was a great day - I was pretty much happy and giggly and verrrry ticklish all day long. Today was also the second day of solid(ish) food... so far, I've kept it all down without any problems. I learned to splash with my arms in the bathtub, and I helped Daddy eat/wear his macaroni and cheese.

Cereal

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Check out that photo of my new cousin Lola!

Today I slept in (due to last night's gas-fueled freakout), and when lunch rolled around, Mommy fed me mushy baby cereal... I really liked it, and especially enjoyed getting it on my face. So far, solid food is cool, but I'd much rather eat it myself, without Mommy's help.

I also peed on the bed today - funny stuff! Also, one of my stuffed animals suddenly spoke to me. Kinda freaked me out.

I hardly saw Daddy today - when he came home from work late in the evening, I was already asleep. He knocked over a garbage can and I woke up and smiled at at him... but then it was back to beddy bye.

New cousin

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Yesterday, Daddy was tired and forgot to write about the welcome arrival of my new cousin Lola. I'll get to meet her in a few weeks - I can't wait!

Yesterday, Daddy was tired and forgot to write about the welcome arrival of Nana's big lottery win. I'll get to see her in a few weeks - I can't wait!

In the meantime, I cried and cried and cried tonight. Mommy and Daddy were prepared to stay up with me all night long... but around 2 in the morning I burped, and fell asleep.

Crib Notes

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I didn't want to sleep in my crib today - but as soon as Mommy put me in there, something mystical lulled me into snooze-mode.

I spent most of the day in a good mood - Daddy loves coming home from work to find me bouncing up and down in my Jolly Jumper, happily excited to see him.

After a nice evening drive, I was too wound up to sleep. I was so excited by music Daddy and I listened to that I looked him in the eye and spit in his face.

Christmas Elf

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy dressed me in my velour green outfit today - when Daddy woke up, he thought I was a Christmas Elf come to visit.

Today we all drove to Mommy's friend's ceramic art show... it was nice, and the people there were very friendly. Then we went for a nice, long drive out into the snowy wilderness.

When we came home, I was a bit fussy, as I kinda have been all weekend. Watched a good movie with Daddy, hung out and played a bit, and then finally crashed while Daddy carried me around and sang to me (which he's very thankful for - he was worried that the whole 'carrying-thing' gonna work anymore).

A Day with Daddy

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy went to a spa with her friend Daniele today, so it was just Daddy & I. We didn't do very much... played in my jolly jumper, listened to music (Dad is very surprised and kind of annyoed by my taste in tunes), talked to Naisa and her family over the internet, and then walked around the apartment. As we drove off late in the afternoon to pick Mommy up, I fell asleep. Don't get me wrong, I had a nice time with Daddy - but I was still happy to see Mommy.

Later in the day, I picked up a big heavy orange, we all watched a crappy movie, and I danced with Daddy before bed.

Cranked Up

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was not in a very good mood today. Everything seemed to set me off... Mommy and I were supposed to have another get-together with our old baby class graduated, but I was in such a foul mood that she decided to abandon the mission.

When Daddy got home my mood improved - for a while, anyway. We played a lot (his sandpapery chin really tickles my tummy), and at one point I even sat up in my rocking chair all by myself in an attempt to eat my own feet.

I wasn't even in the mood for pacing around with Daddy tonight. I didn't mind so much when the funny show was on television, but otherwise, I was grumpy.

Balding

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was pretty groggy this morning, for some reason. I had a hard time waking up... Mommy took me shopping during the day, down on Queen Street. We bought some presents for my cousins, and I had a good cry or two. Par for the course. One highlight was when Mommy took me to the place she used to work - the ladies there were really sweet, and I took to them especially. Then it was back to crying.

Later in the day, when it was time for bed, I was complainy again... Daddy tried walking me as usual, but it didn't seem to work. When the nice lady was on TV I giggled, but I cried when the man she was talking to was on.

I'm also balding. Have I mentioned that?

Picky Uppy

Lots happened today. First off, I went next door with Mommy to check out Emily Johnson's latest wares. Then, I went grocery shopping with Mommy, Gammy, and Grandpa. That wasn't as much fun - I let them know.

Later, Mommy and I took Basil for a much-deserved walk. When we got home, I napped for two hours, and then hopped around in my jumper for another hour.

Finally, while in my crip, I dropped a teething ring - and then I picked it back up again! I've never done that before. For a follow-up, I tried to force-feed my feet into my mouth. It kinda worked, and made Daddy laugh in the process. Hey, I do what I can to maintain levity.

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
