Ottoman(s)

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was up really early for the second morning in a row. It might have something to do with all of these teeth popping into my mouth - I've got six on top and two little teeth on the bottom. Let's hear it for molars!

Mommy and Gamma and I took a drive out to the One of a Kind show downtown to do some Christmas shopping. We had a lot of fun and spent a lot of money (so relatives reading this, let's not have any surprises about where your gifts came from), and I was immediately drawn to a set of large leather animal-shaped Ottomans. If anyone out there wants to blow 300 bucks on a Christmas present for me, there's a cute cow I've got my eye on.

Later, while hanging out with Mommy, I decided to bite her. I thought it was funny... she didn't. Too bad if she can't take a joke.

Artist At Work

[As transcribed by Daddy]

More new words today - "Tasty", "Tomorrow", and "Please," which I even used in the correct context! I also went on and on about Zoboo ("Daa Boo"), the Lemur puppet on a TV show I've seen maybe twice.

Mommy put me on the webcam with Nana while the two of them talked on the phone today. To keep me entertained, she gave me my markers and some paper, sat me in my chair, and asked me to draw things. I carefully listened and actually drew all of the things she asked for, one by one - "Horse", "Cat", "Banana" (I even used a yellow marker), "Mommy", "Clover", "Apple", and "Basil." Then I just started scribbling all over the whole thing when I was done.

Mommy and I raked the leaves today, I got a new and adorable nightgown in the mail, and I used a spoon to feed myself tomato soup for dinner!

The Toenail Clipper Tantrum

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning I uttered some new words ('hair', 'ear', 'slipper'), scribbled on the wall with a pencil, I ate cereal off of the living room floor (with Basil), and got grumpy while Mommy tidied up the kitchen.

After my nap, Mommy and I went for a nice walk to Home Depot and the drug store. Things were relatively calm, but once we got home I decided I wanted to play with the toenail clippers (or something). Mommy wouldn't give them to me, so I threw a ridiculously overwrought tantrum... you know, the ones were I inhale deeply and my face turns purple (which I then hold for several seconds) before letting loose with a major wail. Anyway, during the 'inhale portion' of my tantrum, Mommy bailed on me and ran to the kitchen. Once I started screaming, she peeked in on me, only to found me lying on my back in my bedroom, yelling at the ceiling. She started laughing, and so I got quiet and gave her one of the dirtiest looks I could manage. Even the neighbours could her my retaliatory freak-out.

Vacation 2006?

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I woke up pretty early this morning, and got really wound up and wired - really quickly. I was something of a handful during the day, and kinda drove my parents nuts. I refused to have a nap, despite Mommy and Daddy's best efforts (Daddy even tried to sing to me for the first time in months).

Mid-afternoon rolled around, and it was decided that perhaps I might fall asleep in the car. So, we left Basil behind and headed out in no specific direction, and sure enough, I was out like a light within minutes. When I woke, we were up around Hockley Valley, so we found a trailhead and went for a hike. Good thing - the warm weather and the moody atmosphere along with a great trail made for one of the best hikes any of us had ever had, even though it was only an hour long. We all felt refreshed, recharged, exercised, and while we hiked, I suddenly started spouting a whole bunch of new words ("puppy", "tree", "stick", "ham"). It felt like a mini-vacation!

It got pretty dark, so we headed home, only to get stuck in a horrible traffic jam on the way. I loathe traffic jams, and do my best to make it hard on everyone else, too.

The Story of Barley

[As transcribed by Daddy]

All day long, I pointed at the television and asked to watch my favourite shows (Toupie, Franklin, Dragon, Pocoyo, etc.). So... Mommy and Daddy decided that I wasn't gonna be watching any television today.

After our weekly trip to the butcher's and my nap, Mommy and Daddy and Basil and I loaded up into the car and drove out to Brampton to find a nice place to go hiking, since the weather was so nice. We found a new trailhead out near Terra Cotta, got out of the car, and...

...we were then greeted by an injured (yet extremely friendly) lost hunting dog, which we named Barley - as pictured above. We were careful to make sure he didn't get any weird dog-germs on us, and he didn't seem to bother Basil one bit (and vice versa) but he was obviously tired, lost, hungry, and hurt. After about an hour of a hike into the woods and back,. we decided to try to find Barley's owners. His radio/shock collar had a phone number on it, but we don't own a phone. Right as we were about to leave, a truck filled with hunting dogs and Australian hunters found us, lucky for Barley. He was rescued! Good thing, because it was either that or we put him in the trunk and dropped him off at the nearest town.

Product Placement

[As transcribed by Daddy]

There was an oddly stunning moment today, where I kinda shocked Mommy. This afternoon the two of us took a walk to the local toy store, and while Mommy was looking for Toupie And Binou books, I started yelling about "Nonny". Mommy couldn't figure out what I was on about, until she realized I was asking about a book titled "Noddy."

Can I read?! Well, not quite. Turns out that on a daily basis, there are very brief commercials (promos, really) on the children's network that I watch for a video called "Say It With Noddy," which I recognized in the store. Clearly, I'm retaining and regurgitating info I've gleaned from television advertising. Creepy. I also started asking about another show, 'Franklin.'

I walked most of the way home (I found a pinecomb and delivered it to Grandpa), and asked to watch more television shows - Franklin, Toupie and Binou, and Jane & The Dragon. So uh... looks like I need to be around the television a lot less.

Happy Thanksgiving!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Happy American Thanksgiving - especially to those family members Mommy forgot to call today. Hopefully you can find it in your hearts to forgive us.

Mommy and I were gonna go out for a walk or shopping or something today, but I was so shagged out after a long phone conversation with Nana today that I had an extra-long nap, which really threw off our schedule. I did, however, play the drums on the coffee table using the sharpening steel, and I managed to catch my new favourite television show. I love Dragons!

Speaking of that nap - today I refused to have a nap until Basil came in and hung out with me. I actually requested his (begrudging) presence. Also, Mommy has determined a way to tell when I'm planning on doing something I'm not allowed to do... I say "No no no no no no no" riiiiiiight before I do it. Daddy thinks this is hilarious.

Scatting in the Tub

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I yelled at Mommy all day long. I demanded food, I demanded to be picked up, I demanded attention and to be read to... ...but yeah, mostly I demanded to be fed. I woke up hungry, ate two breakfasts, a big lunch, had a nap, woke up hungry, snacked, and yelled at Mommy. All this was before dinner.

When I wasn't yelling, I was singing. I made up a song about a toy train Mommy unveiled when she decorated the Christmas tree ("Choo choo choo choo!"), I performed my cat song for Gamma, and I tried some free-form scat-jazz vocal whilst in the tub ("Doo ba dee da doodle doo doo dum dum".)

I learned some new words today, too - "Coral", "Straw", and "DIE" - but Mommy and Daddy haven't deciphered what that last one means yet.

Yellow Flower

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I was in a great mood this morning - I got to say goodbye to Cool Uncle Gareth, who headed back to New York today. During lunch, I watched an awesome TV show that I really seemed to love.

After my nap (which I shared with Mommy, who found it 'stressful'), Mommy and I played around outside and then decided to take Basil for a walk. We made it to Richard's Gallery, where I fell in love with a large photograph of a yellow flower (I kept trying to smell it).

After dinner, Daddy drove Mommy and I out to the video store to rent some movies and then to get some coffee. On the way, I made up a new song about cats ("Meow meow meow meow").

Two Words:

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy was back to work today, so I decided to go back to terrorizing Mommy, who woke up feeling kinda sore and tired and a bit ill. I made sure she wasn't able to do much cleaning, and as usual, I screamed and screamed while she was making dinner.

She did get a pretty positive reaction out of me when she broke out the Christmas Tree, however. Now, every time I walk past it, I say "Oooooo!" It's pretty cute (the fact that I say "oooo", not the tree). (Er, not that the tree isn't cute.)

Also, today was a red-letter day for sentence structure! For the first time, I was able to put two words together and make a statement. I pointed to my nose and said "Baby nose," and indicated that Mommy's nose was "Mommy nose." I'm one step closer to being a reporter!

(Washable) Markers

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning the extermination continued, as another member of Mr. Shuffles' family bit the dust. After that joyous event, Mommy and Daddy and Bail and I joined Gamma, Grandpa, Anisa, Cool Uncle Gareth, and Julia for brunch. We all ate a lot of great food and had a really nice visit. I particularly loved all the attention.

After my nap, it was time for Julia to take the bus to Peterborough, so Daddy drove us all (including Mommy and Cool Uncle Gareth) to the station at the mall. While we were there, Mommy and Daddy bought me some colourful markers! The mall was crazy and was making Daddy itchy, so we all escaped back home, and I did a lot of drawing and colouring (we'll put my artwork online soon).

Cool Uncle Gareth visited with Mommy and Daddy and I some more after dinner. I really like him - he always seems to make me laugh!

Cool Uncle Gareth's Cows

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was a day of ups-and-downs. After breakfast, Mommy and Daddy took me to Home Depot to get a few odds and ends. A few odds and ends soon became several odds and ends, which then became several thousand pounds of lumber (give or take). Daddy discovered a sudden allergy to sawdust, which when combined with exhaustion and his dislocated jaw-pain led to a grumpy morning for him. We went to the butcher with the car filled to the brim with planks, poles, and splinters.

After my nap, I was in an awful mood. Mommy and Daddy took me downtown to see Cool Uncle Gareth, who's back in the neighbourhood for a new art show, and I cheered up. I got to see Julia, and I got to meet his friends Shanan and Lauren, and I did a lot of playing and writhing around on the gallery floor. I liked the artwork... I thought it looked a lot like photos of cows.

Daddy's Dislocated Jaw

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy was gonna just play hooky and take the day off of work because he's been away from us so much this week - but then he went and dislocated his jaw, and kinda had to stay home and moan and whine through clenched teeth anyway.

After some lunch and my nap, Mommy and Daddy and I took a drive out to Yorkdale mall to do some shopping for a few odds and ends. While we were at Williams-Sonoma, Mommy let me try some lovely hand lotion, which I happily rubbed between my fingers. Apparently I do this all the time, but this was the first time Daddy had ever seen it. I loooove hand lotion ("Lo Lo").'

On the way home, we stopped at a Japanese restaurant and I got to have some sushi and tempura and stuff. I really liked it - especially the eel and the green tea ice cream.

Daddy would like to mention that this new 'Blogger Beta' version of Blogger sucks, and that they should have said up front that when you migrate to the new format that you can no-longer post directly from Flickr, and that you can't hide the Blogger bar.

Greatest Parent Ever (or: "Stinky Stinky Poop Soup")

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Rest in peace, Mr. Shuffles. We all woke this morning to discover him in the closet, his spine-bone snapped in half by the peanut butter-baited mousetrap Daddy and Grandpa laid for him. We're glad he won't be waking me up in the middle of the night, but there's this undercurrent of guilt floating around...

...which might have to do with some of the karma going 'round these parts. For the sake of sensitive readers, I can't go into too much detail while describing my diarrhea-filled diaper this morning. Needless to say, Mommy changed it, and gets to be declared 'Greatest Parent Ever'. It was like something out of anyone's worst nightmare, and it resulted in the top-to-bottom cleaning of the entire apartment (that and the mouse carcass).

Went to the mall with Mommy and Gamma and Anisa (Mommy was so disturbed by the diaper change that she just HAD to get out of the house). I've now started calling Anisa "Nee Nee" - and I still don't call Gamma anything.

I take requests

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today, Mommy went out to rake the leaves. As soon as I saw the big pile of colourful fauna, I had to just dive in and start playing. Mommy thinks that all children must come pre-programmed to play in raked leaves, based on this apparent evidence.

Once again, I didnt see Daddy all day, as he was working late yet again. He's worried I'm forgetting all about him... on the phone, I called him 'Papa'!

If you ask me to sing a song for you, I'll sing the 'Toopy and Binou' theme. However, if you specify a song title, I'll do my best - although I definately seem to be limited to my 'Diaper Song.' The other night, Mommy asked me if I wanted a bedtime song, and I actually requested 'Toopy and BInou'. Cute!

The elusive Mr. Shuffles

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today was Dishwasher repair day. While Daddy was at work, Mommy and I did our best to fix our clogged-up dishwasher, but not to much success. Mommy took my plastic duck-bath-thing out of the bathroom, so I carried it around the house, putting random objects (garbage, clothing, toys, dishes) in there and dragging it around. Maybe I'll be a hoarder, like Daddy and Grandpa!

Gamma saw a hawk in the back yard today, probably capturing a mouse. I wish the hawk would take our mouse ("Mr. Shuffles") away... he keeps waking me up at night. Daddy's petrified I'm gonna set off one of the mouse traps.

Speaking of traps, I laid a set of traps for Daddy for when he came home from work at four in the morning. Wandering around in the dark, he stepped on all my noisemaker toys, waking us all up. I was so happy to see him, I didn't want to go back to bed!

Raw Pork

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Well, the dishwasher seems to be screwed up again, Mommy's hand is burned, she's got a headache, Daddy is sleep-deprived and his neck is sore, and it looks as though we may have an un-trappable mouse in the house. Ain't things just peachy?!

Anyway, Mommy and Gamma and I took a trip to the chiropractor to get Mommy's neck and headaches sorted out. I entertained his receptionist, who thinks I'm the most amazing thing on the planet (which, of course, I am).

While Mommy was making won tons for dinner today, I reached up and shoved a fistful of raw pork into my mouth. Mommy called the Doctor to make sure I would be all right... ...I don't see the big deal, though. It's just raw pork. Anyway, after Dinner we went with Daddy to go and vote in the municipal election. I sang songs and kept everyone entertained.

Gripping Giblets

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Daddy had more work to do today, so he was pretty much tied to the computer all day while I scurried around him, eating pencil erasers and getting into trouble. Mommy and I were able to pull him away for a few minutes late in the afternoon when we all loaded up into the car for a trip to the bookstore (sometimes I think we just go to the bookstore as an excuse to get coffee).

Before dinner, to keep me entertained while Mommy prepared dinner, Daddy and I played together in my new House of Balls, which was a lot of fun! He tried to teach me to juggle, but I'd rather just bang them together. Anyway, while I was distracted, Mommy managed to seriously burn the heck out of her hand. Way to go, Mommy! She's currently trying to sleep while tightly gripping frozen giblets.

House of Balls

[As transcribed by Daddy]

What a nice surprise - this morning, after a trip to the mall so that Daddy could visit the dentist, we visited Gamma and Grandpa. Gamma's friend Orit came over and brought me a present - a Magic Clear Playhouse with 75 Balls! (Sorry, I can't find a link... see the above photo) It's so much fun - the best part is learning how to throw the balls so that Mommy and Daddy go chasing after them.

Daddy was up late last night working and didn't get a lot of sleep, so he's been acting a bit weird. However, it didn't stop us from going to yet another mall tonight in order to buy diaper liners, and then we looked around a bookstore for a few minutes before heading home for dinner.

Before bed, Mommy and Daddy and I did a lot of jumping up-and-down, and we discovered my sixth tooth.

The Return of the Missing Shoe

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and Basil were both feeling a lot better today, I'm happy to report.. so there was much tidying to do after yesterday's Clover-tsunami. In fact, thanks to the wonders of Craigslist, we were able to get rid of a lot of stuff taking up space in the apartment, including our old busted television set, my first baby carrier, and more. I hung out upstairs with Grandpa today, and learned the word 'booger.'

The best news of the day (to Mommy, anyway), though, was when Mommy finally found my missing shoe! We'd all love to be able to say that I had crammed it in one of the magazine boxes and then flushed it down the toilet, or hid it in a cheese drawer in the refrigerator or something intricate and complicated like that, but no... it was just lying there, under Basil's big purple chair.

The Diaper Song

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and Basil are both sick. Not me, though! I'm great! I'm ready to run and play and destroy, but noooo, Mommy and Basil are all lumpy and sluggish and have headaches and just want to lie around and moan. I literally ran circles around them today, basically daring them to stop me. At one point, Mommy had to barricade the DC and DVD shelves with the coffee table to prevent me from taking them all down.

Mommy napped with me this morning. When I woke up first, I started jumping on Mommy's hair, then I got in really close to her ear and silently whispered "Maaaaaaamaaaaaa." I know I don't say it here on the blog much, but I really really do love my Mommy. I think my parents really can tell.

I made up another song today, too. It goes: "Diiiaaaapeeerrr, diiiiiiapperrrrr, diiiiiiapperrrrr..."

The Case of the Missing Shoe

[As transcribed by Daddy]

We did a lot of tidying today. Not just the usual 'put-things-back-after-Clover-has-pulled-them-down-from-the-shelves' tidying, but more of a tidy in the grander sense. For example, while shuffling around in the catacombs of our storage rooms, Mommy was shocked to discover the long-lost Closet door for my bedroom. Apparently it hasn't been seen in years. So... Mommy started painting it, and hopefully we can re-affix it to the open door frame.

What prompted all this cleaning and renovating in the first place was a search for my missing pink shoe. You know the one - thick sole, velcro strap, and ridiculously expensive? Yeah, that's the one. If you've seen it, please email us.

¡Viva La Revolución!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Today is the day to be completely full of beans! Go go go go go go! Get into everything! Take it all apart! Tear it all down! Keep Mommy on her toes! Unpack toybox again and again! Destory Daddy's DVDs! Yank things off of the mantle! Reach for and dismantle the printer! Go upstairs and draw, read the "daikee" book, jump on the furniture, and dance on the couch! Today is the day! TODAY IS THE DAY FOR REVOLUTION! Don't forget to stop for a nap.

I seem to have completely stopped breastfeeding today. I have lost all interest. For the past few weeks I've really been gearing down, but today really seemed to be it for me. It's somewhat sad for Mommy, but at least I don't have to be weaned... I just don't seem to care much anymore.

Hide-A-Shoe

[As transcribed by Daddy]

The weather was surprisingly awesome today, and Mommy decided we ought to go out for a walk or a hike or to play or something. The problem: I had stashed my shoes somewhere in the apartment and decided not to tell anyone where. It's especially funny when you consider that before Mommy started searching, she had just tidied up the place after one of my rampages. It was interesting to watch how she tore the place apart... I took some notes.

Daddy didn't come home from work until after I went to bed, which made me sad - I kept asking for him to give me a kiss before I went to sleep. Isn't that adorable and sweet?

My family has noticed that in my youth and innocence, I have yet to develop a realistic 'emotional response barometer.' For example, if Basil were to knock me over and I cracked my head open on the fireplace, I'd freak out (naturally). However, if Mommy doesn't pick me up when I want, I'd react the same way.

Acid Reflux?

[As transcribed by Daddy]

While I napped this morning, Gamma and Grandpa joined Mommy and Daddy as they cleaned up a bunch of rooms that I've rarely even been in. They kicked up a lot of dust, but cleared up a lot of space.

After lunch, Mommy and Daddy and I went to the butcher's. We dropped our meat at home, did some laundry, and then grabbed Basil and headed out for a nice hike in the Rouge River Valley. It's a bit chilly out, but not too terrible. I spent most of the afternoon strapped to Daddy's chest - we had a nice chat and played a bunch of silly games. At one point he looked up at the trees and said "Wow," so I craned my neck to the sky and said "Woooooow" for about 30 minutes there.

Once we got home, it was discovered that I may have inherited Daddy's acid reflux problems, as I was spitting up on the floor (and playing in it!) after drinking some really acidic juice. Either than or I was just, you know, vomiting a bit.

Toopy Toopy, Toopy Binoo

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Mommy and Daddy and Basil and I spent a lot of time with Gamma and Grandpa and the Nixons this morning, before the Nixons headed home. We all had a nice lunch, and I sang the theme song to one of my favourite TV shows over and over and over again. I had a really short nap, and as such my schedule was kinda off-kilter all day long.

Mommy did some more work on Gamma's smoking lounge, and I hung out with Daddy so that we didn't get in the way... and all I wanted was to be with Mommy! When she was done, we decorated by bedroom a bit, I made my first-ever fart joke, and then we all drove downtown to Daddy's office.

While we were there (decorating), Mommy made me some popcorn, which I proceeded to pulverize and dump all over the floor. I added some chocolate powder and chewed-up nerf ammo for good measure, leaving a nice surprise for the cleaning staff!

A Songwriter is Born!

[As transcribed by Daddy]

Am I grumpy because I have a cold and am still all snotty, or is it just because I'm, you know... a toddler? In any case, it was another emotional roller-coaster of a day for me. Not to worry, though - Mommy kept me entertained and occupied. We did several loads of dishes (our dishwasher magically repaired itself), read some books, poked at the cute (but apparently sensitive) new picture of a baby on Daddy's arm, and we visited with Gamma, Grandpa, and the Nixons.

I wrote my very first song today. It's a simple composition: "Popcorn, Popcorn, Popcorn!" Repeat. Pretty cool, eh? Not bad for a first try. I sang it for a while today, while I walked around, eating popcorn, nonchalantly slapping my exposed tummy. I would have sung it in front of everyone when we had Thai food for dinner, but I was shy, and kinda forgot the lyrics.

Waiting for the bus

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I still have a cold and rubbed my eyes while I slept, causing me to wake up with a puffy face. After breakfast, Mommy and I took Basil for walk... but I was pretty snotty, and didn't want to wear mittens or have my nose wiped.

Mommy and I went on a lunch date today - it was fun! I got to eat a chicken salad sandwich, and discovered that I'll eat almost anything, so long as it has butter on it. After lunch, we took the bus to a Shoe Store, Old Navy, and Future Shop, where we bought a new video game for Gamma.

We had to wait a long time for the bus to come and pick us up. I waved and waved at the other people waiting with us. Once we got home and Daddy came home from work, I hugged his butt while he tried to fix our broken dishwasher.

I'd like to go to bed now, please.

[As transcribed by Daddy]

This morning I learned how to blow my nose. It's kinda cute - I blow really hard and make snot bubbles. Awesome! I also learned several new words, including 'Shampoo' and 'Butter'. I can also now point to and identify milk, mushrooms, and other food-related items (but not mustard).

My mood went sour pretty quickly this morning. I started ranting and screaming and shrieking, and before long Mommy had developed a massive migraine headache. Daddy was late coming home from work (he had an appointment), so Mommy took a quick breather while Gamma and Wendy Nixon looked after me.

At around 7:30pm, half an hour before I usually go to bed, Mommy and I were in my room, changing a diaper or something. I earnestly pointed to my crib. Mommy took that to mean that I wanted to go to bed, so she put me in there. I curled up and went to bed.

Buh Buh

[As transcribed by Daddy]

I'm still a snotty girl, and to be honest with you, I'm a little bit grumpy about it. I was kinda difficult on Mommy from sunrise to sunset, but you can't exactly blame me... I'm full of mucus!

The Nixons came to visit Gamma and Grandpa today, so it was nice to see them, as always. Daddy rushed home to see me after work today, so that he could help take me trick-or-treating. I got into my Buh Buh (butterfly) costume (and Basil got into his Electro-Dog costume) and along with Mommy, we went out and trolled for candy. I was a little nervous about knocking on doors and getting candy from strangers, but I like waving 'hi' and 'bye' and I like climbing porch steps and stuff, so I didn't mind too much. Richard and Lucie next door even gave me a blinky necklace to wear!

I kinda didn't like how I had to give up my candy at the end of the day, though. I hope I get to eat at least some of it.

I'm a happy kid living with my parents and our dog in Toronto. I'm goofy, sweet, smart, extremely chatty, and pretty much the cutest kid on the face of the Earth!
